Another superb performance! This cello piece is better known than the Honegger, but just as welcome. Thanks for uploading all of this wonderful program!
Thank you for this thoroughly wonderful performance! ❤️ Oddly enough, last week I watched the motion picture Korngold composed this work for - "Deception," a 1946 film starring Bette Davis, Claude Raines, and Paul Henreid. Korngold could have simply recommended an existing concerto to be featured in the film, but he chose to compose a complete, one-movement work. Best wishes from Vermont ❄️💙❄️
The cello solos of this concerto in the movie Deception, as well as the concert premiere, were performed by Eleanor Aller (Slatkin). From Wikipedea: Eleanor Aller became principal cellist in the Warner Bros. Studio Orchestra in 1939, in which her brother, pianist Victor Aller, later became orchestra manager and in which their father also played for a time. She was the first woman to hold a principal chair in a Hollywood studio orchestra.[5] The same year she met and married Felix Slatkin. Shortly after their marriage, the couple founded the Hollywood String Quartet. Aller also continued working as a Hollywood studio musician. She performed the Cello Concerto by Erich Korngold for the soundtrack of the movie Deception starring Bette Davis and Paul Henreid. Eleanor also performed the concert premiere of the Concerto with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1946.[4]
Fabulous piece wonderful performance.
An outstanding performance - thank you for sharing it.
This performance was breath taking to say the least! Korngold is known for cinematic works and it's just beautiful!

1:56 What instrument is that? Is that a special kind of viola? It seems quite oddly shaped.
Believe it's a tertis model
