Thank you for your very kind comments on both models. Working on models only when having some free time it feels good. Thinking of starting the bismarck over the winter. Say hi to USA. Studied in michigan (upper peninsula) many many moons ago.

Looks great mate. I just bought one for my 4 weeks quarantine.
Never tried anything so ambitious before.
Any tips on the weathering painting techniques.
    Cheers

thank you......slow and easy with the weathering... layered it... what i did was after i painted it and weathered white i sprayed it with matt varnish and then did the black and rust... of course now I can say that some things i would have done differently but isnt this the reason for trying things out? :) it takes time probably more than painting the sub. when finished drop a line so i can see it. The white washing of mine hmmmmm too bright...do not care for it.... part i would have done differently more subtle.

Revell Uboat Type IX C (U67/U154)
    Box: 05166
    Scale: 1/72
    Length: 106.3 Width: 9.5cm, Height 22.5cm
    Number of Pieces: 170
    Level of Difficulty: 4
First, I would like to say once again “Thank You” to Revell. As always, I had to destroy something. Once again, a decal was “removed” during the washing process. I sent an email to Revell asking for an extra sheet of decals, willing to pay for it, and in 10 days, it was in my hand. Even during the COVID pandemic. Awesome. Sincerely thank you.
This time there is not much to say about the box because it is a fantastic model. Everything fitted perfectly. Ok 99.5%! Instructions in color and very well laid out. What I will complain about, and has nothing to do with Revell, is the habit by the large retailer to send orders in the original packaging. The box came torn, speed fix on one end and a large hole at the other. In addition, it looked like it was thrown a couple hundred times. Why nothing broke, I do not know.
First time I tried washing and rust techniques. Some worked, some did not but what the hey!!! Not bad.
Tips and what to pay attention:
Step 1: Make sure you drill all the holes as listed so as not to run into trouble after closing the hull.
Step 1a: Decide which version of the sub you will so as not to drill unnecessary holes.
Steps 7 and 8: Went with the open version. What is the point of closing everything for no one to see?
Step 11: Pay attention to place pieces C14 the correct way. No glue so the propellers turn.
Step 16: The only part that for the life of me could not fit the three pieces 87, 88, 89. I had to trim piece 89 at the front so as to sit in place. Other than this everything else just perfect. I did not glue the model to the stand. I had to pick it up so many times. Up to you.
Step 37: Now this is very important. Piece K121 if you look close at each end it supposed to have two small holes for the rigging. Did not have and did not notice. When the time came to do the rigging I glued the string. No big deal but if you make two tiny holes it will look better.
Step 44: Do not glue pieces B136 and B137so as to move up and down.
The rest is straightforward. Rigging is easy the pieces are delicate so handle with love.

Good morning, thank you so much for your comment. You are absolutely right. It is all done by brush. Never used a spray gun for any of my models. Hi Sergei. In all honesty it was one of the easiest models I completed. Compare this to the 800 and more pieces of the pirate ship. Easy to assemble and paint. The weathering takes most of the time. No rigging too. So give it a go and do not worry about the size. Anytime you need help drop a line. I just purchased the english man o war. When i will start it i do not know cause its huge but we can still dream and hope in this world.

Good work! but can i add just a comment please.
I see a lot of model ships and subs all well done but with one glaring mistake, being an ex paint inspector and seeing lots of drydocking of ships i can tell you not one of them weathers vertically underwater its all horizontal. They do rust along vertical welds though but not general weathing.
Anti fouling wears off horizontally and algae sea life follows the sunlight, barnacles are everywhere even on the props!
Hope this helps some ship builders!

Good evening from Cyprus. Thank you for the comment about the work and thank you for the info. Did not know this. In fact if next year there is a competition and decide to enter it with the sub i will try to correct it. Algae i knew but did not have the right weathering items. No clue about horizontal anti-fouling. I will google it. Thank you for the tip. Never stop from learning something new.

I'm assuming the Swastika is illegal in your nation since it was not on the Kriegsmarine flag, but other than that, looks efficiently done and amazing

    • @theodorostzitzimbourounis
      @theodorostzitzimbourounis  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hello and thank you for the nice comment. The swastika is illegal in germany so revell does not include it in any of its boxes. That is the original flag included in the box. You can find from other sides but i never add additional parts to my models. I work with what is included. Again thank you.

You can download the instructions from Revell and see the decals. Of course Revell as some other companies never included flags or decals with the swastika that is why is just a a white circle.

WAY TOO MANY so called judges at model contest's get super uptight about the shade of color or the actual coloer or whatever. AND THEY ARE ALL WRONG. In a combat environment, plane ship, armor-whatever they used the paint they had. SOMETIMES, enemy paint was used. This subject about "The Wrong Color" turns me completely off. You did a great job, period.@@theodorostzitzimbourounis
