Hussein El Kaissy Are you interested in sub or u-boot like topic, submarine warfare,or are you just building u-boot scale models? I prefer WW II German submarine warfare, aces, technology.
G'day Hussein, I think you've done an excellent job on a problematic kit. It's a decent kit but the problems occur when Revell tried to mould lots of tiny detail in 1/144 scale. Items that are thin or small in reality like the torpedo fins or the valve wheels appear much 'chunkier' or thicker than they are in reality. I had this kit when it was released and I spent a lot of time gently, sanding down components so that they looked a little more realistic. It took me many hours, however, I think it was worth it. Your lighting system is outstanding and very clever. I wish I had thought of that, but I guess tiny LED lights were not widely available where I was back then. It's really good to see that Revell have retooled a clear sided submarine kit which has addressed some of the shortcomings of this kit. I have the newer kit in my stash and your video has made me want to have a go at it, to see if it really is any better. I wish more manufacturers would offer a clear side option. It would be awesome in many classic tanks and aircraft. Anyway, your finished model is still very impressive. Cheers, BH
All that detail at 1/144th scale....AMAZING! I didn't think kits could be that detailed at that scale. You did an absolutely superb job. Inspiring in fact because now, I've gotta try this scale lol. Thanks for sharing this.
Enjoyed the video immensely, especially the lighting. Have my model but yet to start. Thanks for this very entertaining and instructive video. Love the weathering.
I have a pretty good sized library on submarine warfare at home. U-2540 was used as a training boat for lesser experienced crews, and was with the 31st Flottille out of Wilhelmshaven/ Wesermunde near the city of Hamburg. Crews had to be trained to deal with the sheer speed of the type XXI boats, compared to the most common of U-boats, the type VIIC, that many transferred from. The flotilla was disbanded in May 1945, when Germany surrendered. U-2540 never went on an operational war patrol, or saw combat action.
great job and great music! But the one room aft is the "motor room", and the other is the "Engine Room". Engines are fuel powered, motors are electrical (batteries). I realize a of of people don't know the difference between motors and engines.
Hello Mathew, good luck with your model For the railing i did the following: First i got a strong thick sturdy metal heavy wire and cut it in parts 3-4 mm long, then i used a 0.4 mm manual drill to drill hole at the edge of the upper deck at equal distances and put the heavy wire bits inside the holes with glue, these are the holders (railing) Then i got a very think copper wire from a network cable and start gluing it with super glue to the first holder and let it dry and then pull it towards the second holder while hoving a small drop of super glue on top of the holder, i keep the wire tightly puller and resting on the secong holder for several seconds until the glue hardens then i move to the third ond and so on.
Superb skills, Hussein! I simply love your little tank maquette in the intro! Is that of your design and is it printed 3-D? I can appreciate you deciding not to go nuts with weathering or super detailing. I like a smooth, uncomplicated build. I can do all of that, but about half the time I just go with general painting and have a good no-brainer time. Best wishes, sir, from old Virginia. Cork
Paul Alderson check at minute 1:38 there is a small electronic board attached at the top left, this has a CR2023 small coin battery and has a black switch for on/off function. As i mentioned the whole lighting was from a shoe lace light that came as a kids meal gift to my son. An ideal chance to avoid any electronic wiring and soldering. It was all ready
Anyone know if Revell has a model of the Wilhelm Gustloff? I would imagine they do; they have every conceivably model under the sun! But still would like to know if they do.
Great work!!!! I have the same kit! Can I have some information? For example... Where you put the on/off switch? And batteries? Are on the basement? What kind of led you used?
Thanks mate, i used the led string from on the these lighting shoe laces with its builtin board, the board is really small and the battery is the normal CR2032 types attached to the board. You find these shoe laces on ebay or amazon for 1 usd a pair and eack contains around 10 leds
@Hussein El Kaissy - nice. Please do the Enterprise D bridge with the entire crew, including Data and Lt. Yar. That's a million views right there. Your work shows me that you just might be able to paint actual characters and yes, it is an art, I perfected it in 1967. (there is no Enterprise D Bridge model...imagine that) Hey! You're a Maker! You could use cardstock from the ninety-nine cent store to recreate the bridge with a few LEDs, dude, never mind, it's too hard. there is a curved piece of wood on the bridge, I could never create a piece of...wood...wait a minute. A tiny little Riker with a goatee. Troi with permed hair. Worf looking like Worf. The Captain - this is where real art lives, mein Freund. Captain with the shiny head.
I've got this kit but....the color scheme that is common is too kiddish I think. The torpedoes look terrible. I'm pretty sure the tips weren't red...at least red like that, lol. I'm not crapping on you personally since you aren't the only one doing it. Edit: I just did an exhaustive search to prove myself wrong...the only tips painted red I could find were from pics of this model....hahah.
There are not so much model builders who see the importance of the right platform to represent a perfect model. Compliments!
Quiet Riot Thank you
I'm sure I bought this kit when I was a teenager 50 years ago .my grandson has one & we are going to build it over Xmas
I love the different color lighting per room. Just like the movies
Best u-boot scale model I have ever seen!
Thanks

I've seen other people's similar sub models without the lighting and it doesn't look as good as yours.
Incredible!
