2022 UPDATE: This aircraft featured in this video (JA771J) was ferried from Tokyo to Mojave, Arizona for part-out and scrap on June 1st, 2022. It is no longer in service. Five Boeing 777-200s remain in Japan Airlines' fleet and are scheduled to be retired completely by early 2023. 2023 UPDATE: The Boeing 777-200 has been completely retired at Japan Airlines.
It really amazes me how many of these big planes are sent between both cities, taking into account that there is a quite fast shinkazen train that could save you of all the airport staff.
- ITM - HND is one of the busiest route in the world. - Domestic flights in Japan are easier than international flights. - It depends on your location, some areas are better just take the domestic flight to the next city.
Thanks man ur the one TH-camr that actually flies economy! Most others do business and first and that not right cuz more people fly economy. Keep up the great work!
I remember flying from Osaka to Tokyo. Japan is a beautiful place I wanted to stay there. I flight I took I remember was a 777-200, a Star Wars edition! I wish Covid will end soon and we can all enjoy all these aviation and beautiful scenery of the city.
0:12 Boo, I like train spotting, so I actually liked this bit of the video. Overall, nice video! I boarded on a JAL 777-200 on December 2022 on my way to Okinawa and that aircraft was taken out of service 5 months after my flight, so nice to reminisce on that experience again!
I am a Japanese spotter based in Osaka such as Itami and Kansai. Last year, Itami Airport was renovated and reborn from the old terminal in this video to a new and wonderful terminal. And also, the service of JAPAN AIRLINES has become more better, and recently, major domestic flights are equipped with personal monitors and unlimited free wi-fi! When pandemic is end and we can travel freely, please come to Osaka again!!
I did some research. The white seats are First (not Business), black seats with a "J" on it is Business, and the others are Eco Class. Good trip report!
LOL, 777-200 for domestic flights. I took the bullet train between Osaka and Tokyo and I think it is much easier. You just jump on the free-seats cars and relax and eat the lunchbox you bought at the train station. Miss my trip to Japan
+Peichen01 My plan was from the beginning to go by the bullet train from Tokyo to Osaka in the morning and back by plane... :) Oh an the Ekiben at the train stations...so awesome! ❤
I want to thank you for all your trip reports. I love watching them because it gives me sort of a nice holiday fly feeling which I only get once or twice a year in real life. I like the whole process from leaving your house to getting in the airport, taking off, landing and reaching your destination. Thank you for sharing your experiences I really appreciate it. Looking forward to your next video! Greetings from México :D

+Ron Daniels, until a few years ago they used *747s* for it! And not just any 747 - special versions that Boeing made specially for the Japanese domestic market (the 747SR, based on the 747-200, and later the 747-400D, which unlike other -400s had no winglets). They had smaller fuel tanks, as long range wasn't needed and they could shift the fuel weight to carry more passengers, and the landing gear and frame were reinforced to withstand more frequent takeoff, landing and pressurization cycles. Most importantly, they were insanely crammed with up to 550 seats in an all-economy configuration. The record for the single-plane accident with the most deaths is still held by the tragic JAL 121 crash, a 747SR on a Tokyo-Osaka flight that lost its tail in flight, became uncontrollable, crashed on a mountain and killed 520 people.
@@succindallroy1 they also use the 777s to fly from Tokyo to Fukuoka, Sapporo and Okinawa. There’s a lot of demand for domestic travel in Japan, even with the Shinkansen. Even then, the fastest Shinkansen from Tokyo to Fukuoka takes almost 5 hours, compared to an hour or so flight. So there is a lot of demand from business travellers.
Thank you very much for this video!!! With this beginning an the Station i can look back at the time that i had in Japan! The best time in my life! Thanks for the video and always good flight! Greetings from Germany!
Would have loved if you would have been able to get on their domestic 747 with 500+ passengers before they went away years back. THAT would have been crazy
My very first flight was on a JAL DC-8 ITM-HND back in ‘76 when I was 5 years old. I remember munching on a ham and cheese sandwich and being given a DC-10 plastic model as a gift! There was a period in my thirties when I intentionally chose JAL instead of the Shinkansen between the two cities to earn miles, but after a while I got tired of being constantly on the move with hardly any time to relax. In any case, thanks for bringing back the memories.
It's always interesting to see heavies and widebodies used on short-haul routes like this one, although the main reason why big jets are used on short routes in Japan is simply because of the sheer amount of people travelling on these routes. In comparison, over here in the UK, you're unlikely to see anything much larger than an A320 flying domestically.
People in the plane with business outfit ... the clothes are very good quality 👍🏼 they all look stylish and fit ... Osaka is the most cosmopolite city in Japan and your trip report just prove it
Those Class J seats are a great deal. It is only 1000Yen more. When you are checking in, you can ask if there is availability and pay to upgrade right there.
Simply Aviation your trip reports are best ..Watching your trip reports allways gives an awsum experience :) Beautiful Work :) :) Thank's for these lovely videos...:)

Flugzeug Dokus EK only doing that for Doha once a day... For ANA and JAL they are using more than 10 dedicated widebodies without IFE as in the video to serve Japan domestic market only... Their 777/787 and previously 747-400D ( specially built for Japan) flew domestic only in Tokyo Osaka Okinawa Sapporo etc eg. JAL 777-300 domestic have 500 seats...
Pretty sure it’s 34L. They passed over 06 on final, and you can see the terminals off to the right. Plus on Flightradar24 earlier in the video they’re using those two runways
Thanks for your flight reports and videos Simply Aviation, It was really fun watching. I really enjoyed this JAL flight, I hope to watch all your videos. And please more videos to come :) :) :) Cheers! Good job!

Lvcxs Lxy No, it’s for domestic routes only. All Japan Airlines 777-200s are used for domestic routes, however the 777-200*ER**s are used for InterAsian and Australian flights.

It's been 5+ years since this video was posted and you still gave an update. Awesome work man!
Gotta be the P&W 4000 powered Boeing 777-200. Those sound better when full throttle
And they are all replaced by the A350-900. Soon the -1000 variant will fill the shoes of the International 777-300ER.
It really amazes me how many of these big planes are sent between both cities, taking into account that there is a quite fast shinkazen train that could save you of all the airport staff.
*stuf.
There are a lot of passengers between this two cities.

- Domestic flights in Japan are easier than international flights.
- It depends on your location, some areas are better just take the domestic flight to the next city.
Here in Japan, Shinkansen tickets are expensive, I would rather fly than ride
In the early years, even 747s flew this route. The biggest plane nowadays on domestic routes must be the 777-300.
I love the part at 17:03 where everyone gets up at the same time.
Everything Japanese never fails to impress

I did some research. The white seats are First (not Business), black seats with a "J" on it is Business, and the others are Eco Class. Good trip report!
+Adrian Hung Yeah, kinda got confused with the different seat maps on Seat Guru... 😅
yeah i guess from the appearance you could say the seats in first look like short-haul business, the business like eco+ and eco like eco obviously
Japan Airlines is wonderful. Had the pleasure of their offerings from Hiroshima to Haneda and it was fun.
The train part brings back so much memories when I used to visit Japan a lot
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! :D

I like your presentation of no commentary but just subtitles. 😊
Japan is just filled with those joyful music or sounds. The whole episode is full of it
Imagine being on that 777 for a long haul. No IFE
It is specifically for domestic use. All long haul aircraft have ife

How are you supposed to fit 58 rows of seats all with a good amount of legroom into a Boeing 777?
