A "me too" moment. When I come off the tools and just do testing and inspecting electricals I could fit everything in that boot and, unlike my van, it's less likely to be robbed clean. These days a trade van have more money in the back than your wallet and no penalty for nicking everything in it.
33 and another "old man's car" enthusiast! Just want something reliable, something that does its job, where you can sit comfortably over a long journey and something that offers enough space if you ever wanna transport bigger items... Performance isn't that important and as a designer myself I feel that a lot of "old man's cars" are actually really pleasing pieces of design. Most people don't notice it and that's exactly when their design is perfect, they're supposed to be under-stated, not bold but smooth and quiet...
Hi, I've just bought the 1.4 tsi s Superb a few days ago, paid £4550. Wow the space inside will amaze you. I'm nearly 6 foot tall and I lay down in the back with seats folded down, no problem! Nice amount of toys also fitted, just feels like I'm in a luxury limousine. Definitely have a look into one of these. All the best
Mate..stop doubting your content. It's a great platform you have, I enjoy the calm delivery and the way you relate specifics to your opinions. So again, well done buddy. Keep them coming.
Yep I love the fact he isn't afraid of popping in his opinions too (which I agree with) It genuinely help ppl like me because all too often there is bias or some other agenda in say "main stream" reviews. He comes across as a lad i'd love a pint or several with.
@@HighPeakAutos yeah! I watch your reviews all time. I'm car hunting all the way from Nigeria. I think I'm going to buy one of these. You've got me going through auto tempest for the third time today 😂
Having had a selection of original Superbs (stretched B5), mk2's and now the third generation model, I can honestly say they're one of the best made cars out there. A couple of points... The Octavia is based on a stretched Golf pan, and the Superb is a stretched Passat. Luxury Skodas are for people who appreciate amazing quality, refinement & economy, but aren't fooled by so-called premium badges.
@Richard FittonPerkins I know exactly what you're talk about Sir. My Wife worked for JLR (Jaguar/Land Rover) for many years. During that time I purchased a late model 2019 Ford Edge. She was able to get its first service done for a fraction of the price that Ford wanted (mainly because it was basically only an oil & filter change, & Ford were taking the pi$$ 🙄) The Jaguar tech that carried out the service drew several direct comparisons with a Jaguar F-Pace. With one important difference. As my Ford was built in Canada & was primarily intended for the Canadian/north American market where they salt their roads in winter more than we do in the UK. Apparently the underseal on my Ford was better equipped to deal with a UK winter than any other car sold in the UK? BMW X5's & Audi Q7's etc are everywhere in the UK. But I've only seen 2 Ford Edge's in 2yrs. It's a brilliant vehicle & obviously it's genuinely exclusive without the badge snobbery 😉 The only car she brought home from work that was better than our Edge was a Range Rover priced at £100k+. Yes, it was better/more luxurious. But definitely not 2.5 times better! Maybe 20% better at best?
hi is the superb nicer to drive than octavia?, eg road noise and comfort, im not bothered about toys, i like grandad cars , comfy and relaxed driving, thanks
I believe that other than the 1st gen (B5 Passat was based on the B5 A4), both the Passat and Superb are essentially stretched Golfs, much like the Polo, Fabia, Ibiza and A1 essentially being squished Golf platforms. Obviously, this is a bit of an oversimplification, but in basic terms, that’s what’s happening.
I am 6'5 broad body frame and 24 years old. I bought my 2010 skoda superb 2.0 tdi cr 170bhp manual 80k miles late 2016 when I was 22 years old with full service history for £5800 from a prestige dealership which I bought outright saving money for a year I still have the car and love it I have modified it and been to several car shows modified nationals being one of them its dose annoy me sometimes how little attention these superbs get as in Europe they are well thought after but I like the exclusivity of the car other than when I do see one it has a taxi logo on it I haven't thought of buying a new car due to the fact I get everything i need with the superb and for me it was value for money I had sat in Passats Octavias vectra insignia and so on the superb just feels massive inside I had good leg space in the Passat and Octavia and others but felt my shoulders were squash abit the superb just feels so much bigger inside and out of all the cars i had test drove felt the most premium with how it drove and the interior with the boot space I could even roll up into a ball and fit into the back of it its huge with leg space I feel I will definitely struggle when I come looking for a new car maybe a Mercedes e class but then your paying for the badge for less leg space in the back and heavy mechanic Bill's I also refused to have a car with a parking button sorry for the long comment but I hold the superb close to my heart and wanted to share my experience with it may i also add i have 130k miles on the clock and only thing i have had done is timing change which didn't need doing but i wanted it change at 100k
It all helps. I'm coming from a very lovely BMW530DD but she's developed a misfire that appears in traffic + 13 years old 240K (kilometres on the clock) 155mph (about 260) on the A8 still feels odd but since i no longer commute and the green police and their CO2 cult are ruining fun, the petrol one will be fine. If you are interested in the science not the propaganda please visit 1000frollyPHD on TH-cam, he has 2 papers proving CO2 is no problem, also the data all these climate alarm web sites use is wrong! @@lazycarper The Superb is all-round a more luxurious and powerful car over the Octavia, but also quite bit more expensive. They are both excellent for what they do. It all depends on your price point.
So I'm 75 and I'm watching car videos. I have long admired the re-born Skoda brand although I am actually your entirely typical Volvo driver (of course). I enjoy your video tests..... keep them coming and thank you.
Peter T Hello! Thanks for your comments. The way VW have turned around the Skoda brand is unbelievable really. I’d have one without doubt. I’ve got more videos on the way 👍
I drive a Volvo V50, and am thinking of trading up to an XC70, or V70 (post 2008 facelift model) and I'm in my early 40's. Volvo is a sensible brand that offers a bit of everything imo, so transcends most age ranges, I think. The C30 for those aged 25-35, the V50/S40 for those aged 35-45, and the S60/C70/V70/XC70/XC90 for anyone above the age of 40. That said, whatever model you go for, except maybe the C30, offers different attributes that appeal to different age groups, and genders even.
@@taichihead42 Actually, they are made in three or four locations, to cater for their particular market. For the European market, they are manufactured in Sweden (still) and Belgium. But they also have nanufacturing plants in South Africa and Malaysia, as well as China, and possibly the US too, but I'm not 100% certain about that. But most of the BIG manufacturers have facilities, not JUST in their home countries. It makes sense to avoid import tariffs etc, and huge transportation costs, which would make their cars too expensive to sell around the world. The new Volvo line up, except the new XC40, are all really good looking cars, and meet all of the most stringent safety and economy requirements. And are still designed, for the most part, by European designers.
I bought a 2 year old one with 27,000 on 5 years ago , now has 250,000 on and still feels like new ...egr valve and an oil cooler are the only things that have been changed outside of normal serviceable parts . Use it as a taxi and the interior has stood up to all the wear and tear no bother. I've been a taxi driver for 15 years and its easily the most reliable car I've owned. Great video 👍
I drove one of these as a taxi driver for around 3 years. When I last drove it in March it has 275,000 miles on the clock and still felt good to drive. I'm looking at buying a 2014 model that had the minor facelift before the new model. These are going for around 8 to 10K. Brilliant cars, I thoroughly recommend them.
I’m 26 and absolutely love the superb! Dad had the first generation one back in 2004. It was a brilliant car for travelling round the country on holiday and visiting family. I need a large estate for work and thought one would be ideal. Even this second generation one is surprisingly more than I thought it would be when looking at anything at or under 100k miles.
When I visited Prague not long ago, I've rented a Skoda Octavia and I can tell you I had fun riding in them and the steering handle response is just perfect. Skoda came a long way!!
Dude, they are awesome at doing what they do. Massive, cheap to run, that double boot is cool, the rear legroom is literally beyond compare. I have done 100k plus in 2 Superbs and regret selling my last. Got a Yeti and a Golf now but my heart is Superb.
I have 2009 170bp elegance from new and its been really good. A few electrical issues but nothing that stopped the car. 1 - boot wiring loom issue affected rear heated window (common), 2 - Indicators coming on intermittently when car locked (caused by alarm backup battery failure) and 3 - Heater fan failed (replaced with secondhand from newer passat. It still looks great and goes really well. People cant believe its 10 years old. Get crazy mpg and loads of power so no notion of changing for now.
I bought an Octavia combi 1.9 TDI. I maintain it myself. Cheap, reliable, solid engine with plenty of torque and great for long road trips with all my toys (skis, surfboards, mountain bikes). Even slept in it on long trips. The Superb seems to be even better, although I do not know if the 2.0 TDI is as solid as the old 1.9. A friend has the 2.0 in his Audi A4 and he broke the injection pump. Cost him a fortune.
everyone who slags VAG cars off or thinks theyre boring etc, get in one and youll be like Mr High Peak Autos. They change your mind with ruthless efficiency, comfort, practicality, aesthetics, safety and just an everyday do everything way about them. I've owned various VAG cars going back to a mk1 Golf GTi in the early 80's. They don't generally let you down and are like a faithful labrador - and I like faithful labradors!
Guy at work has one 4x4 diesel he loves it equipment level is great i think he paid 7k for it any equivalent VW,Audi, etc would have set you back 12k ,the Superb is a serious car for not a lot of money.
I bought a newer shaped high mileage Superb SEL Executive a couple of years ago as a second car, and it hasn't put a foot wrong. It's got more extras than Ben Hur and for the money there was nothing else out there close to it on size and spec. It's the 180 bhp Golf GTD engine in it and it's quick and very good on fuel. Very impressed with the car.
I am 40 and have a 2017 2ltd skoda superb. I have owned quite a few cars in the past including premium brands and by my own experience I can tell that it's a lovely car without a snobbish badge!
I own and love my octavia 1.6fsi estate, it's comfy, solid, beautiful, smooth, reliable, frugal, reliable, practical and huge. It's a 2008. I got it for exactly 999 quid from a dealer. One thin it needs is a drivers door as the mirror is damaged and the window stuck shut- that's why it was so cheap but it's fine as is. It's got 125000 miles on it but drives great and is quiet, it has enough power, surprisingly as I thought it'd be too slow but no, it can shift well enough esp 40-80, it's so smooth it encourages you to drive easy, less harshly, that's a reason they last. Yes I have to say always buy a skoda as they don't let you down easily and they're a bargain price usually. Great honest channel by the way, love it, keep going
When I was a mechanic I used to service one of these that had nearly 400,000 miles on and we used to play games with guests and other customers to look around the car and guess the mileage and it was always a guess of around 60k. Fantastic quality
@@bendoyle5023 I sold a audi a6 still going now my mate has it with 250k and another mates taxi firm retired a audi a4 with 600k on it just because insurance wouldn't cover it for a taxi due to its age. Best engine ever made by far
Sir Adam i have an 07’ A4 with the 2.0 pdtdi and its garbage. 1-2k £ / year is granted on maintnance. And it had one caring owner before me, a friend of mine. Idk how but once in a while the vw group puts out the best and the worst engines in the same time🤣
I’ve had a superb estate now for 6 years, best car I’ve ever had, and as a taxi driver I’ve had lots, apart from servicing its cost me nothing and crucially never let me down
I keep coming back to this review as I bought a 59 plate nearly 3 years ago, same colour and interior, 2.0 cr 170 with dsg and I love it. Also bought a newer Superb estate 2.0 manual 170 cr and we couldn’t be happier! Not sure about the new crop of Skoda SUV’s but the quality across the brand is top-notch. Nice review!
I've had all sorts of cars over 40 years of driving...including a 2014 Superb Estate. It was...superb. I did 160k in mine and traded out when I thought my trouble-free run with it was close to an end. I never had a drama...it was comfortable and felt much higher spec than a budget model. Highly recommended.
I know technically the Golf shares the platform with the Octavia, but styling wise and size wise the Octavia is more of a rival to the Passat. Thats the point I was making. Nobody wanting a small Golf sized hatchback would consider an Octavia. Where does the Skoda Rapid fit by the way?
@@HighPeakAutos They are two entirely different cars in my mind. The Golf is smaller and lighter and its 2litre version goes like a rocket. It has to be said, Skodas are a lot of things, but pokey isn't one of them.
@tryptychUK Octavia shares same platform as Golf (however people from Škoda development try to use same base to build a bigger, more spacious car) and Superb has been (since generation B5 (2001-2008)) based on a Passat platform. Greetings from Czech republic
Apart from a 2 year break, I've had Skodas continuously since 1993, absolutely great cars if looked after. We've had 2 Favorit estates, a Rapid 136, a Fabia diesel estate and the one I've had for the past 14 years, an Octavia Classic diesel estate. Apart from service items, the only things I've had to change is tyres, 1 battery and an alternator in the Octavia. Mind you, it has clocked up over 300,000 miles and still returns over 60 mpg so can't complain. Yes, it's the same exhaust as when I bought it but it might need to be changed before we get to 400k miles lol. It's even survived being T-boned by a newer Golf. A 2nd hand Superb was on my short list when I got a 'best' car 6 months ago and only just lost out to a Volvo XC90 series 1.
I am 38 now and I bought my first Superb 6 years ago. My first one was a Skoda Superb MK2 estate, with the newer CR version of the 140 BHP Diesel engine and a 6 gear manual. I loved that car. It was reliable, with high comfort and it was fast enough for our German Autobahns. I hat it for four years and never had a problem with it until there was a software update because of the Dieselgate. Only 4 weeks after the update 2 injectors started making trouble and Skoda wanted 1500,- € for the repair. Instead of a repair, I tried using a diesel system cleaning additive and 2-stroke oil. After about 200 kilometers all the problems were gone. 6 month after that situation I got a sensational offer about a Skoda Superb MK3 estate with 6-speed DSG and the 190 BHP engine, fully equipped. Today, two years later I can tell you, the old Superb was a really good car and I loved it, but the new Superb is lightyears ahead of it. It is a brilliant car with almost everything you can ask for. Thank you for your honest review of this wonderful secret treasure. Sorry for my imperfect English!
Am Ko - what model years were your old and new cars? I'm considering one of these but not sure if the extra money for a mk3 version is worth it over a facelifted (2013-15) mk2
@@dj_efk - my MK2 was model year 2012. The differences between the pre FL and FL are not that big. It is still a great car! My MK3 ist model year 2016. The MK3 is on a completely different level. Every single inch of the MK3 is at least one class higher than on the MK2. Please do not get me wrong, the primary reason why I switched to the MK3, were the problems I experienced after the software updates made related to the Dieselgate. But now, 2,5 years after the swith to MK3, i'd never go back to the MK2. I love this car! Am Ko Damn! That Mk3 is a handsome looking car. Beautiful proportions & angles of the exterior details. Interior too - love the clean architectural look of the dash & the seats. This could be a replacement for my 14yo BMW 530d wagon.
I bought a 2003 superb in 2014 when I moved to the (former) eastern bloc. 2.5 tdi v6. It was fully loaded, including heated rear seats. It was the nicest interior of a car I've ever owned and very reliable. My wife has an 2017 octavia company car and, although bland and boring, is great to throw around some twisties. Incidentally, I once returned to my superb, parked in a side street and realised I was trying to get into the wrong car. An identical (and I mean identical) VW Passat parked one space in front same color, same trim just a different badge that I didn't look at
Beautiful car, my superb is the best car I ever had. Comfortable, fast with 2.0 TDI and 125 kW, 170 hp. with a lot of equipment. I enjoy driving every day. 5 years without any major problem. I recommend this car to anyone who is planning to buy it.
What is the obsession with underpowered Diesel engines in the uk. The vw 2.0 tdi engine is reliable no doubt but so so boring and grossly underpowered.
Jon Copperpot There’s enough power for most people in 175bhp. With a good gearbox to go along with it, it will overtake at will. If you’re looking to burn it up at the traffic lights, perhaps you should join the teens over at the overpowered Peugeot or Citroen mini car, or whatever they like to call them these days forum.
My Superb is the Laurin and Klement version, which is the top end of the range. It's the Rolls Royce of Skodas. I can't tell you how good it is, how pleased with it I am. There are too many reasons. I bought it second hand, one year old. A massive bargain. The dealer did not know what he was selling. Thank you for your accurate, comprehensive, relaxed commentary. It hit the spot and I'm impressed by your appreciation of the Skoda history. You don't have to be 70 to buy one. They are great for a younger family.
Somebody in the BBC or elsewhere needs to give this guy his own show , I can’t believe that it hasn’t happened , credible , impartial, honest , informed and well delivered reviews , this guy is worth the time it takes to listen to him EVERYTIME
After smeone wrote off my Mk4 Mondeo earlier this year I was given a 3rd gen Superb as a hire car for a few weeks. I was out hunting for A6's, 5 series BMW's and other large German cars as I knew that any Mondeos in my price range would require the same kind of work done as mine had, and wasn't willing to fork out for that again when I had the lightbulb moment. I'd been driving around in the perfect fit. Then I came across this video (and subscribed to the channel) which sold them for me. I couldn't stretch to a used 3rd gen Surperb, but waited for a bit and finally got a top spec 2012 Greenline (even has the window blinds!) with full Skoda service history and one owner who garaged it from new. It is possibly, the best car I have ever owned (that award goes to the 205 GTi I had in 1990), and with an aftermarket head unit that supports Android Auto in there, it is now perfect. Long journies are a pleasure, the fuel economy is amazing, the ride quality absorbs road shocks wonderfully and all the high-end features such as auto lights, wipers, cornering headlights mean you just have to drive and not 'operate' the car. Can't wait to get a third gen one on a few years time.
i'm 25 and have owned one for 3 years now. A 2010 1.9TDI Greenline. Tuned it from 105hp to 140. 5 speed manual. Been reliable as hell! Only changed the rear wheel bearings so far. Only problem is poor paint, and surface rust. I'll keep it till it goes to the wreckers.
I'm driving actually the same superb with an 1.8 litre petrol engine since 2016. Must say it's a perfect car for longer distance travel, comfortable and got plenty space. For this price it's outstanding. Greetings from Germany.
I’m on my second Skoda Superb. I really love them. First was a 2013 MK2 facelift Elegance TDI Estate with 4x4. My current one is a 2017 L&K TDI 4x4 Estate. Every car I have ever owned has been VAG but I’m sold on Skoda as when I went to get my first Superb I actually wanted an Audi A4 Allroad but I got far more spec in the Elegance with 4x4 for my money than I would have got with an equivalent A4 allroad.
Like your Videos! Just a correction: there are several differences between vw and skoda cars, although the base is the same. Also the octavia is a Golf, the superb is a long wheelbase Passat. Cheers!
I guess that I’m one of the old gits (64), and just in the process of buying one of these cause they have good write ups for towing caravans, enjoyed your video, in a strange way the rain added a touch of class! Great video, God bless, Bill.
Am a Brit living in CZ. Škoda has an amazing engineering heritage (heavy engineering as well as cars) the cars are bullet proof. By the way the Škoda 130 coupe won its class on the RAC rally many times over during the 80s - it was never garbage. I ran an Octavia Scout (4x4) for a while and it was a really nice drive. The new Superb is apparently a very nice automobile indeed...
I recently bought a 2010 Superb sedan, equipped with the 1.8 tsi engine and only 15k original miles: this car is gorgeus, confortable, quiet and really fast. I'm "only" 30 yo and I don't regret my choice at all, even if this is a model aimed for more mature people.. and I'm happy to report that she still attract some amazed looks ;) Thank you for the video
Don't like the rear end of that skoda superb. My farming neighbour bought the latest model superb. He drives the lard out of it and never cleans it and it just keeps going. I wouldn, t say no to one.
I had a '61 plate Estate for 4 years. Most reliable car I've ever had. Only thing that failed in 4 years & 70k miles was a headlight bulb. Many trips to France & Spain, towed a trailer... lives up to its name
My dad has owned 3 superbs and 2 octavias uses them for taxis and some private runabout jobs, solid cars! Very easy on fuel, comfortable! solid engines! My dad runs them way into 400k and still run like new!
Fell in love with my 2ltr turbo 280bhp 4x4. Best car I have ever owned. Ok it’s a bit thirsty but my goodness it shifts with the dsg box. Kids love it. Fits the family and the dog in for going on long journeys. Cheap servicing fantastic dealership. Can’t think of a better car for the money.
I have skoda suberp estate 2014 since last 20 moths It is as reliable as any Toyota car The only problem Skoda superb is it's length Otherwise it is what it's name says Superb !!!
I have a 2009 from new (top range one) and I still get people admiring it. Had no major issues. Only things are wiring in split boot got damaged and the heater fan stuck and a spray of wd40 sorted it. And one other thing the standard radio would fltten the battery if left on but I since replaced it with a chinese android unit 3 years ago and no bother since.
Don't worry. I'm approaching 80 and have watched a few of your videos out of interest and found them well produced and informative. You don't have to be in the market for a car to enjoy them. Keep up the good work.
The Superb was for people like me whose "conversion moment" came in 1999 when I hot out of my brand new Audi A4 tdi at Gatwick and into a brand new Octavia rental car at Zurich Airport and realised that, other than the badge and body panels they were EXACTLY the same car! Once converted, and 8 octavias later we graduated from our VRS to a Superb Sportline IV estate....the perfect car for lugging masses of stuff back and forth from our house in France. A really handsome care that is difficult to distinguish looks wise from an A6 YET HAS MORE ROOM INSIDE!
I’m 23 just bought my first skoda, i am more than above average interested in cars but could not be more happy.. it is a superb L&K 2013 4x4 2.0 Tdi, works perfect here in tromso, norway
VW 'works' for those who are looking for the brand first(passat is classified as 'near luxury')and those who looks for practicality, reliability, value for money,..the Superb will answer their needs
A member of my family own a 2015 (2nd hand) Superb. When he took possetion of the car,the previous owner told him-"whatever happens, never 'visit' a VW/Skoda garage..they'll 'take you to the cleaners'.." so i refered him to a friend who has a garage& a place, you Brits calls-M.O.T centre(in Israel, the m.o.t outsourced the car tests/registration and inly inspects)
I bought Skoda SuperB Combi 2011 version like a year ago, i was 18 then and it's my first car and im actually proud to say, it was worth of the money. Good sound system already built it, comfy seats and basically everything i need is in there :D
Thank God for that - I thought it was just me! How he could calmly sit there narrating all this car review stuff with that wiper knock going on, beats me. Never even mentioned it. I personally would have stopped the car, got out and done a Basil Fawlty!
I am almost 70 and enjoy your videos. Having had diesel cars only since 1985 currently a 09 Civic and being a keen camper the Superb estate is attractive to me.
Actually...the very beginning of Škoda's history was in 1859. Laurin & Klement (founded in 1895), which was bought by Škoda in 1925 started production of cars. 2.world war and then political regime sent us from the top of the automotive industry into the Middle Ages. Škoda's Laurin & Klement - 1. car 1905 (motorcycle 1899) BMW - 1925 Audi - 1913 Mercedes.-B. (Daimler)- 1890
That's right they are genius. Guess why yr clever little mechanic told you that cos he know you will be making lots of trips back to him with repairs. Listen Skoda are just a poor man's version of a VW, Jetta, and a Golf. All the parts are really expensive and have to ordered through the dealership. You can't buy anything in a motor factor like generic parts that are the exact same as the original but a fraction of the price. Get yr self a cheap Toyota Madza. You can work on these cars yourself and the parts are reasonable and freely available in motor factors. Also you can remove the wheels without hassle. Not like on these pieces of shit where you have to thread the bolts into the hub. Go luck with that😆😆😆😆😆😆😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 pieces of shit.
Well, as a Czech person, I should be agreeing with your mechanic, but... The older Superb 1.8 petrol is OK car. Certainly not the best, if you want reliability, get a used Toyota. If you want new cheap car in that category, Superb is slightly cheaper and comparable to Passat and A6.
ZaBoo1990 - I think so. As much as it pains me to say, unless you have a lot of expendable cash, steer clear of the VR6 version. Great car but S4 running costs
I love my 64plate Superb! £30 road tax, 45mpg around town, 65+ on a run, massive boot opens like a saloon or hatchback. Plenty of space for a 6ft 6 275lb guy with room for same person to get in behind the drivers seat.
Superb is so good in elegance trim! Amazing that these have had the same engines as those offered in Audis lol... I thought the 1.9 PD was bulletproof but the 2.0 PD is known for oil pump failures?
Well I've just watched 3 of your videos, the 3rd one was The Great Wall pick up, and pretty much disagreed with every word. However I had a Skoda Superb for about 6 months, did several long distance road trip across Europe, and was very impressed.
Maybe I can not agree with some parts. TDI PD engines are not much reliable. There are some much better. It really depends on the quality of fuel and how the first owners treated it. And there was an enormous market for Superb... In the east. :op And of course as a company car for middle management.
I'm on my 3. Superb in a row. They have accumulated a total of more than 840.000 km (525.00 miles), and have been excellent for reliability and total economy. I had to have the first and the second towed once each, one for a failed battery, second for a failed water pump. The current one is 4 years old, has done 334.000 km, and has been utterly reliable to date. Two rear shocks replaced, one wheel bearing, generator and windscreen wiper motor - and the memory for the driver's seat swapped twice on warranty. Only had to stop working for one day for the generator swap. It's an estate, 190 HK diesel with 6-speed DSG. When this one starts to show its age, I'll get another one just like it. All bought factory fresh.
Saying Skodas were garbage cars is a somewhat glib comment. If you really knew your stuff you would know they were always well engineered, but under great restrictions, both political and financial. You need to do more research into Skodas engineering heritage which is immense. You are also too young to remember their fantastic record in rallying in the 60s and 70s. For a start the essential design for the VW Beetle was Czech (Hans Ledwinka) and stolen by Ferdinand Porsche. VW eventually paid compensation to Skoda.
Hi, I didn't realise that. I just grew up at a time when owning one was akin to owning a Lada or Yugo. At that age I didn't know much about the engineering behind it
Sorry, but you are partly wrong. You are right about VW Beetle and Hans Ledwinka and paid compensation, but not for Skoda, for another Czech car company Tatra.
I am 62 and remember skodas in London where I grew up. That’s why I opened this. I wanted to see if they have improved. Seems they have however I don’t think I will see any skoda dealerships in Atlanta anytime soon
Recently bought a octavia vrs estate black line must say I’m very impressed,I remember all the Skoda jokes from my early days of motoring but no ones laughing now, absolutely brilliant cars would recommend them to anyone
I was, as always, enjoying your video then you said the car being reviewed is 10, yes! 10 years old!!! Well she doesn't sound too bad for a 10 yr old diesel does she? Then you said they can be bought from about £5k second hand - shoots across to Ebay - and yes you can !! From 2010 onwards and for less than £5000. Seems like a reasonable deal to me.
@@HighPeakAutos Mate, I wish the pricing of Skodas in Australia would reflect the UK. Brand new here they are certainly not 20% less than a comparable Golf. As a matter of fact a brand new Octavia RS (vrs) is often more expensive than a Golf Gti, pricing in the lower spec levels is also very close. In Australia though when it comes to European brands we often don't get the same stripped out base models that are available in teh UK and Europe. Skoda in Australia are underrated and mocked by those that don't know any better. Skoda sales also seem to be held in check by supply issues (6 month wait or more for Octavia RS Kodiaq's etc.), and Skoda in Australia is run by Volkswagen. Second hand pricing is similar.
I owned an Octavia tdifor ,4 or5 years ,best value car.ive owned all aspects very happy, servicing has to be as per book but if done will.last a long to time oil and belts costing less.than engines
I used to own a Taxi in Lancaster. When buying a car from a main dealer even brand new you would not get a warranty if it was getting used as a taxi. Skoda changed this and still offered a warranty. This is why a lot of taxis were brand new Octavia’s as taxi owners jumped at this great offer. Me included. I bought a brand new estate in 2003. It was a great marketing idea by Skoda as it got loads of people into their cars. Taxi owners lived them as they never went wrong regardless of the mileage you put on them and passengers couldn’t believe they were in a Skoda.
I have an 02 tdi manual from new, undoubtably the most reliable car ever owned..( incl 2xMB and 2xBMW, all from new). No rust, never garaged, battery replaced at 15yrs, new alternator at 120,000, still on orig exhaust. Also have 05 L&K Mk2 from new not as reliable as MK1 but still better than all other makes I have come across. I am not affected by badge snobbery and can readily see that a lot of clever people are'nt any longer.
I'm 32 and tempted by an estate version! Nice little channel mate, subscribed.
kyndryd spyryt honestly they’re really good cars. I’ve just bought an Octavia Estate, but it’s nowhere near as luxurious as the superb!
I got a hatch mk3 with the stonking petrol engine. And I am 32 also.

They're great cars. I know the Octavia is based on the Golf platform, but I meant the Passat is more of a rival to the Octavia
@Richard FittonPerkins
I know exactly what you're talk about Sir.
My Wife worked for JLR (Jaguar/Land Rover) for many years.
During that time I purchased a late model 2019 Ford Edge.
She was able to get its first service done for a fraction of the price that Ford wanted (mainly because it was basically only an oil & filter change, & Ford were taking the pi$$ 🙄)
The Jaguar tech that carried out the service drew several direct comparisons with a Jaguar F-Pace.
It's a brilliant vehicle & obviously it's genuinely exclusive without the badge snobbery 😉
The only car she brought home from work that was better than our Edge was a Range Rover priced at £100k+.
Yes, it was better/more luxurious. But definitely not 2.5 times better! Maybe 20% better at best?
Octavia is closest to jetta.
hi is the superb nicer to drive than octavia?, eg road noise and comfort, im not bothered about toys, i like grandad cars , comfy and relaxed driving, thanks
The circles do overlap and I am in dead center. A 27 year old with the mind of a 70 year old man. Subscribed and liked!
Haha that's similar to me then. Thanks for subscribing
The name alone is a winner. If someone in a flash car tells you its a crap car you can say, no sir, I assure you it's Superb!

Well, you can buy 2015 superb, for better styling and features.
I currently own an octavia its a brilliant car indeed

@@lazycarper The Superb is all-round a more luxurious and powerful car over the Octavia, but also quite bit more expensive. They are both excellent for what they do. It all depends on your price point.
The Skoda Superb is a brilliant car. It lives up to its name. A dream to drive. Loads of room and fast!
I’ve got more videos on the way 👍
Nothing wrong with Volvo's Peter ,onto my 4th one , last 20 years 😁😁
Volvo is made in China now. Good luck with that.
I’m a proud Skodarian and love how far they’ve come. Unfortunately prices are creeping up as they gain acceptance.
Yep. They're certainly not the budget brand they were 20 years ago
Ten days ago i became the proud owner of a Skoda Superb facelift 2014 2.0 170hp 4x4 limousine. Great car!!
how the reliability been im looking forward to get one
I bought a 2 year old one with 27,000 on 5 years ago , now has 250,000 on and still feels like new ...egr valve and an oil cooler are the only things that have been changed outside of normal serviceable parts . Use it as a taxi and the interior has stood up to all the wear and tear no bother. I've been a taxi driver for 15 years and its easily the most reliable car I've owned. Great video 👍
Has your one got the dsg gear box? Is it reliable
Even this second generation one is surprisingly more than I thought it would be when looking at anything at or under 100k miles.
exactly , i cant find a nice one anything like 5000 ponds or below
I am 42 and have always had a passion for large, luxurious sedans at a ridiculously low budget. Really enjoyed your video!
Glad you enjoyed it!

They change your mind with ruthless efficiency, comfort, practicality, aesthetics, safety and just an everyday do everything way about them. I agree! We all love a bargain don't we :)
Very impressed with the car.
drove an octavia for 19 years from new still running
I am 40 and have a 2017 2ltd skoda superb. I have owned quite a few cars in the past including premium brands and by my own experience I can tell that it's a lovely car without a snobbish badge!
I had one of these as a loaner when my Ford C-Max was in the garage ( yet again ) - was sooooo reluctant to hand it back.
Ben Doyle what engine was it?:)
I bet it was a 1.9 tdi pd
Yes I'm pretty sure it was the 1.9 :)

I’ve had a superb estate now for 6 years, best car I’ve ever had, and as a taxi driver I’ve had lots, apart from servicing its cost me nothing and crucially never let me down
Can you compare it to the Volvo V70?
I keep coming back to this review as I bought a 59 plate nearly 3 years ago, same colour and interior, 2.0 cr 170 with dsg and I love it. Also bought a newer Superb estate 2.0 manual 170 cr and we couldn’t be happier! Not sure about the new crop of Skoda SUV’s but the quality across the brand is top-notch. Nice review!

Tim Hancock wow, that’s amazing, props to Skoda!!
The superb competes in the same class as the Passat..the Octavia competes with the golf
Octavia is nothing like a Golf.
It's based on the Passat, and the Superb is based on a Phaeton which is built on the same chassis.
I don't think the Golf has stolen any sales away from the Octavia. They might share the underpinnings but they're nothing like
@@HighPeakAutos They are two entirely different cars in my mind.
I'm 21 and love huge cars.
I love huge tits xx
I’m 22 and this will be my second car coming from a bmw, people’s taste changes and your videos are great informative.
Don't worry, Your English is perfect.

@@dignamshane As long as has service history and oil intervals up to max 10k miles, I would go for it.
I’ve loved the superb since the mid 2000’s and I was in my 20’s
i'm 25 and have owned one for 3 years now. A 2010 1.9TDI Greenline. Tuned it from 105hp to 140. 5 speed manual. Been reliable as hell! Only changed the rear wheel bearings so far. Only problem is poor paint, and surface rust. I'll keep it till it goes to the wreckers.

@Selim Sultan Akbar you are right but the superb will go round the clock four times if maintained correctly. The Tesla isn't proven yet

Im 22 and im planing to buy one of these, looks great and it is big and practical.
Like your Videos! Just a correction: there are several differences between vw and skoda cars, although the base is the same. Also the octavia is a Golf, the superb is a long wheelbase Passat. Cheers!
Correct, Octavia = Golf, Superb = LWB Passat
I was impressed. I'm a fan of the brand too. I like the Yeti also
I recently bought a 2010 Superb sedan, equipped with the 1.8 tsi engine and only 15k original miles: this car is gorgeus, confortable, quiet and really fast.
They're great cars. I like the estate too. Very practical
Im 44 lol. Got a superb 2.0 tdi dsg estate. Its a great car . Never let me down.
They are great cars!
My dad has owned 3 superbs and 2 octavias uses them for taxis and some private runabout jobs, solid cars! Very easy on fuel, comfortable! solid engines! My dad runs them way into 400k and still run like new!
There’s not much ‘old man’ about the Sportline variation of the Superb one of the best cars I have ever driven (but then I do own an octavia 😉)
Great cars aren't they! Thanks for watching! :)
I have skoda suberp estate 2014 since last 20 moths
It is as reliable as any Toyota car
The only problem Skoda superb is it's length
Otherwise it is what it's name says
Superb !!!
Thanks!
I had mine Superb 2 years ago and I was 25 back then. I must to admit I loved the car it even parked itself. I actually miss my Skoda
Matt They’re excellent cars aren’t they. I enjoyed using this one 👍
I think 2019 prices of skodas are getting rather expensive, compared to volkswagon
Because Škoda started eating into VW sales in markets it hadn't before. They had to make sure the price difference wasn't too much to slow that down.
Because the Superb is the better car.
Great review , as a dealer of many years '
Your reviews are really mature '
above all honest keep it up .
Gerry Freeman Thanks for your comments! Appreciate it! More vids on the way 👍🏻
I’m 23 just bought my first skoda, i am more than above average interested in cars but could not be more happy.. it is a superb L&K 2013 4x4 2.0 Tdi, works perfect here in tromso, norway
Thats perfect for your climate with the all wheel drive
The early 2000 model 1.9 tdi' shares a lot with v dubs and audi and basically live forever if you maintain them.
That applies to almost every car out there, even rotaries.
I can confirm that 1.9 tdi 81 kw is really reliable.
I bought Skoda SuperB Combi 2011 version like a year ago, i was 18 then and it's my first car and im actually proud to say, it was worth of the money.
Good sound system already built it, comfy seats and basically everything i need is in there :D
OCD...Wiper hitting the pillar extremely irritating
Thank God for that - I thought it was just me! How he could calmly sit there narrating all this car review stuff with that wiper knock going on, beats me. Never even mentioned it. I personally would have stopped the car, got out and done a Basil Fawlty!
When one goes off the screen even worse
Me too. That knocking of the wipers. Great spec cars though.
@kev french I would have to sort that ASAP 👍
@kev french totally agree 👍
I am almost 70 and enjoy your videos. Having had diesel cars only since 1985 currently a 09 Civic and being a keen camper the Superb estate is attractive to me.
They're great cars. The Civic diesel is very good too.
Actually...the very beginning of Škoda's history was in 1859. Laurin & Klement (founded in 1895), which was bought by Škoda in 1925 started production of cars. 2.world war and then political regime sent us from the top of the automotive industry into the Middle Ages.
Škoda's Laurin & Klement - 1. car 1905 (motorcycle 1899)
BMW - 1925
Audi - 1913
Mercedes.-B. (Daimler)- 1890
Their history is impressive. But when I was growing up in the 90's, they didn't have a good reputation
Stumbled amongst your channel, brilliant no B.S content. Subscribed.
asked my local mechanic what car should I get. He said Skoda Superb is the best built car for the money at the moment
I would agree
Nope. Dacia is!
MrSparklespring junk
I'm 24 and I love this car because it's great, safe and you can sleep in it. It wasn't designed as a luxurycar, it was designed as a familiar
Owned a 2010 2.0TDI 170 Superb for 4 year's and covered over 100k miles. Fantastic car
I can testify how brilliant they are. I had a 170bhp estate ....fantastic mpg, extremely comfortable and loads of room. Can’t go wrong👍
hmmmmm....I'm a 38 year old weirdo who owns a Superb in the same colour lol. Love my big barge
😂 Same here my friend. I'm 38 and I own a 2011 Superb estate and I love it. Great family car
ZaBoo1990 - I think so. As much as it pains me to say, unless you have a lot of expendable cash, steer clear of the VR6 version. Great car but S4 running costs
ZaBoo1990 - I have the CR170 diesel and it’s “superb” 🤦🏻♂️. I drove the petrol 180 and that was good also 👍🏻
I love my 64plate Superb! £30 road tax, 45mpg around town, 65+ on a run, massive boot opens like a saloon or hatchback. Plenty of space for a 6ft 6 275lb guy with room for same person to get in behind the drivers seat.
The road tax is crazy for such a big car! They're very good aren't they
Superb is so good in elegance trim! Amazing that these have had the same engines as those offered in Audis lol... I thought the 1.9 PD was bulletproof but the 2.0 PD is known for oil pump failures?
Im 20 and i absolute love estate cars, new skoda superb is absolutley amazing
They're great cars
I had 3 Saab's, 2 Volvos and then a superb. The Skoda is by far the best. By some margin.
What model, year and motor?
Very interesting to hear. Was the Volvo V70 among them? I have one and I like it but have been plagued by diverse problems unfortunately.
170 psi TDI se liftback. Now done 151000 miles with no problems.
:op
And of course as a company car for middle management.
I was surprised at the PD comment. The 2 litre PD engine is not that well regarded.
The Octavia is not based on the Passat it's based on the golf. It's called platform sharing
I know they share the same platform, but my point was the passat is more of a rival for the Octavia than the superb is
@@HighPeakAutos Absolutely correct.
My brother bought his Skoda superb edition 100 when he was 23 and it was absolutely fantastic
At that age I didn't know much about the engineering behind it
Yeah I read up about that before I did the vid. They were the founders weren't they
Sorry, but you are partly wrong. You are right about VW Beetle and Hans Ledwinka and paid compensation, but not for Skoda, for another Czech car company Tatra.
@@stasektarkowsky7683 I stand corrected. Thankyou.
I am 62 and remember skodas in London where I grew up. That’s why I opened this. I wanted to see if they have improved. Seems they have however I don’t think I will see any skoda dealerships in Atlanta anytime soon
Im 37 and fed up of garages so want to see less of them. This would be perfect
I've got the 1.6 greenline ,bit lacking in power ,but a great drive and not complaining when getting 65 mpg on the motorway, and 55 round the town.
Nevermind Passat...the 3.2 v6 Superb is the same engine enlarged to 3.6 in the Porsche Cayenne /Panemera entry level..so it's a real Sleeper😂
the superb has 3.6 l engine. They didnt make one with 3.2 l its in the Passat.
Sadly the new models dont come with a V6 anymore.
They're a great used buy. An awful lot of car for the money and if you keep them maintained they'll run for a very long time
@@HighPeakAutos Mate, I wish the pricing of Skodas in Australia would reflect the UK.
I had a skoda octaiva 19tdi auto 02 model had it for 14 years never let me down. They laughed wen I bought it .soon wiped that of there faces.
@shaun muppet finder you must be a sad hateful person
I have an 02 tdi manual from new, undoubtably the most reliable car ever owned..( incl 2xMB and 2xBMW, all from new). No rust, never garaged, battery replaced at 15yrs, new alternator at 120,000, still on orig exhaust. Also have 05 L&K Mk2 from new not as reliable as MK1 but still better than all other makes I have come across. I am not affected by badge snobbery and can readily see that a lot of clever people are'nt any longer.
