And you named 4 absolute stonkers just there! And "Catch As Catch Can" houses the most amazing and diverse and surprising songs any woman of ANY age (or man for that matter) can or has ever come out with, and is her Most Criminally Ignored, Misunderstood & Underrated Album Ever by Anyone, in a world that has many! And I say this as all her albums are underrated anyway, so imagine how this is!
Probably one of the most sultry and seductive songs ever written. Beautiful track. Not to mention the fact that her "girl next door" vocal quality adds such a touch of bliss to the song.
You have put all this SO superbly, and I wish you'd been around the review the song when it was released. Kim's stuff always gets ignored by the masses who chase lesser lights and nobodies!
This is one of my favorite Kim Wilde songs, it was on the flip side of You keep me hanging on 12 inch and I found it by accident, I for some reason played the other side and fell in love with this song and have always love it since, Thanks for sharing!!
Such a gem from her 80s days, it should have been more than just the "You Keep Me Hangin' On" bside. So thrilled this and several equally enjoyable Kim Wilde bsides and remixes will FINALLY see digital release on the 2CD deluxe editions of her Teases and Dares and Another Step albums in July 2010 thanks to Cherry Pop Records!
I rate them BOTH as highly as each other, but each show an entirely different side of Kim, as do all her songs on all her records and this goes for the non-album singles and B-sides & other hidden songs. Unlike the likes of Tina Turner, Whitney Houston and that lot where everything sounds and howls the same.
I’ve been waiting for this song to be available in ANY format since cassette tapes came out. I was always one to like the “B” sides of my 45s almost as much as the “hit” single. When “Keep Me Hanging On” first came out by Kim Wilde, once I listened to the flip side, I fell in love with “LOVING YOU” and don’t even think I played “Keep my hanging on”again. I was obsessed with it, played it til not one but three copies skipped from playing it too much!! It wasn’t til social media that I heard it might come out. I have a copy of the song I can play and it’s on TH-cam but WHEN IS THIS BADASS SONG (NEARLY FORTY YEARS LATER AND STILL AWESOME) GET ITS RESPECT DUE AND BE AVAILABLE OF ITUNES!!! I still keep checking weekly to see if it got added and even check to see if soundtracks list it. Kim, IF YOU’RE OUT THERE, why do you “Keep Me Hangin On” all these years when “Loving You” blows that song away!!! I need you to put out another great album and put this track on it so can add it to my iTunes playlist and listen to over and over again.
Ha, Kim, WHY do you end every show on the banal, overrated, bloody 'Kids' thing and keep on highlighting it when it's all everyone else does. It utterly lacks that excellent hook-filled chorus touch and lyrically peters out. Trust everyone (and herself) to turn to pointless crap when her songs got even better (though everything she did in the 80s is better than 'Kids'-even 'Boys'!). If you think 'Loving You' blows 'YKMHO' away, Jesus, imagine what all her others do! 'You Came' & 'Chequered Love' are beloved, and cool too, but there's many that see them out. Incidentally all my faves tend to be the ones never picked for singles from albums, or when they are ('The Touch', 'House Of Salome', 'Turn It On, 'Shangri-La'), strings are always pulled to ensure it's never a smooth 'out it comes'! BUT I UTTERLY LOVE YOUR EXCLLENT PRAISE OF THE UTTERLY WONDERFUL 'LOVING YOU'-a brilliant ballad that should be everywhere on the airwaves and not the constant Starship, Tina Turner, Whit Houston, Phil Collins, Take That, Pariah Carey, Slagdonna and all other ballads from nobodies we have to suffer everywhere. Kim's nuts and hardly releases ballads, yet she has the best. Just the last 5 songs of "Another Step" tell us that (AND THIS ONE, deliberately album bereft!). It's so amazing to hear how much you revere this song you got it 3x-and NOT for the A-side. Don't get me wrong, I love 'YKMHO' but I love 'Loving You'-and I'd make a FAR bigger deal of it-as you do, quite simply cos it DOESN'T get the same attention, and it should in it's own right. I mean, when she did an interview last year about what she may do in the future following her Hits Anthology, she named titles as she unboxed the CDs and read out the titles of some on her B-sides disc, INCLUDING 'Loving You' & called it and some others beautiful! Such praise means NOTHING-who has a song like this and then NEVER sings it once it's recorded, which she does for MOST things! Women is maddening. If she never sung that fucking 'Kids' song again, I'd be SOO happy! She's so much better things to sing-tonnes of them, if it were me I'd tell that bloody song-and the same few she keeps only ever doing: "She Hasn't Got Time For You"! (geddit?). And that's ANOTHER beautiful 1986 title she should be doing!
What an amzing song and easily the equal of it's a-side, yet so overlooked because of it. And while Madonna the horrible was scumming up 1986/87 with her horrific stolen attempts at disco and peurile drivel, Kim does a hugely seductive, sophisticated piece of genius like this, and gets critically ignored cos lets love the brash Americans and the other candyfluff. All the effort that goes into stuff that just stays b-sides. A French horn, muted trumpet and flute all on this song and never again.
Had this on 45 as well but lost it somewhere along the way. Then I had a band with a female co-lead singer back in 2007 and always remembered this beautiful song so I found a copy of it on EBAY. Unfortunately, nobody had a turntable to play it on so it went onto her shelf where it probably is still today. Thank goodness for youtube. I didn't think I'd ever hear it again. Love this song. Is it just me or does this rendition seem a little bit rushed..i.e...too fast by a smidgeon.
I remember this B side amazing song easily good enough to be a single in its own right, its great to hear it uninterrupted my copy always skipped a load at the end bit
Actually it ISN'T uninterrupted here as the gentle fade-in of the start is absent, and it cuts off too quickly. It IS uploaded properly since and it runs to 4:58. All her B-sides are good enough to be singles, like the stuff left on albums. I mean look at 'Rain On', 'Sail On' & 'He Will Be There' and they'd been all but thrown away for 40 years!!
@@kyachdistent1301 These videos rarely fade out totally like the proper record I was more comparing it to my scratched vinyl single! yes her b sides are really good I've bought a lot of the special reissues of her albums with b sides included since when i last commented and this song was on the special edition of another step
@@katakisLives She's the most amazing B-sides of anyone. @@katakisLives Yes, though I always remain loyal to my main fave acts (relatively easy thing to do as very few have ever let me down utterly, and if an album misses or is more likely less playable than their usual standard), Kim's most diverse, amazing, sophisticated, exciting, unpredictable and outstanding material made up that very small amount of span between 1981-1989. The 90s that followed showed a sad dip around the periphery of the slushy soul and basic pop that largely made up of the 90s for all the lesser lights and nobodies, with "Love Is" being the best out of the bunch as an album, yet even that was full of love songs or painful or necessary splits (apart from 'Who Do You Think You Are'), albeit sophisticated and complex ones, and then there was amazing 'Birthday Song' & 'Never Felt So Alive', both insanely yet predictably relegated to B-side 'status' over weaker A-sides in comparison. Even earlier B-side 'Virtual World' & the stupidly shelved 'Time To Live Your Life' (which we still await a true release of) beat the hell out of what mostly made up her 1st 90s album. Then in 1998, her follow-up to her 1995 soul album was locked away by MCA (soon to be swallowed up by Universal) and still remains so. She did hardly nothing throughout 2000s and then in 2010 came back with a proper record, but it was barely released anywhere, especially the UK, abysmally short with no other versions than the over-edits of the already edited on it, and a worrying lack of synth. Then she committed in close succession 2 of the 3 main music crimes women always have to perpetuate (covers album and Christmas album, with the worry this may still happen again!), then after a few more cover singles, FINALLY a proper album came out in 2018, an album so good, it not only brought back the synths into some kind of prominence, it also showcased her brother's background singing at its most regularly and fluently placed since "Teases & Dares" album back in 1984! And the singles got some longer versions, if the fan-made extensions were often better. And a few extra songs made available like in the old days accompanying the album; even the the rebastardised 'Addicted To You' was pointless and ugly, so 'Dreamlover' gets put over it instead, don't mess with the original you lazy mare, YOUR idea not to put it out properly in 2011! And while "Here Come The Aliens" was so surprisingly great it even rose over "Close" & the 2010 album, therefore actually squeezing in next to "Another Step" & "Complete Non-albumed 80s", making it the only non-80s album to actually do, her career-best albums (best albums in the world for me are "Select", "Catch As Catch Can" (hands-down the Most Criminally Ignored, Misunderstood & Underrated Album Ever) and "Teases & Dares". No one owned the 80s like her, no matter how great they were, and the 80s is sadly long gone, but her records will be around forever as a shining example of something that can never be bettered by anyone. And that includes ALL those 80s B-sides, like this one!
