It's no surprise this is so great-look at those killers that came before it, like 'Sail On' and 'Rain On', which we finally know of, 'Watching For Shapes', 'Just Another Guy', 'Back Seat Driver', 'Shane', 'Lovers On A Beach' (edit need not apply), 'Putty In Your Hands', 'Songs About Love', 'Loving You', 'Hold Back, 'Tell Me Where You Are', 'Wotcha Gonna Do', and while the 80s were most amazing for quantity and proliferation, we still got 'Virtual World', 'Time To Live Your Life', 'I've Found A Reason', 'Never Felt So Alive', 'Staying With My Baby' and 'When A Woman Loves' (leaked on here some 14years ago but gone again), 'All About Me' and those extra songs done around the 2010 album. Also 'Without Your Love' stuck on a soundtrack only and 'Fight Temptation'. Kim is the only person where all the B-sides stand up to all songs on her albums, never mind the ones picked for singles.

An amazing song! I think this is better than the A side Love is holy-its more Kims' sound whereas Love is holy is more like a Belinda Carlisle track as it was written by Rick Nowels who wrote Belindas' hits- Kim is a good songwriter!
'Birthday Song' is better than the A-side in that the song's far more imaginative and unpredictable than the usual 'I love you' stuff with the obvious chorus you hear a mile off before it gets there that Bel does because that's the Nowels/Shipley formula and they ain't (can't?) go changing. It's better cos it's a fave for me and 'Love Is Holy' isn't, but are both worthy singles? Yes. Of course. Anyway, who cares, 'Love Is Holy' AIN'T Miss Carlisle as she never got to record it. It was presented to Kim who snapped it up. And she does have the better voice. But there are many cases where the B-Side is better than the A-side, not cos the A-side is weak but cos it's one I prefer over it. Take the slightly preferable of 2 great ideas. For instance, 'Hold Back' better than it's A side, 'Putty In Your Hands' the same. A few equal each other-'Loving You' with 'YKMHangin' On', or 'Lovers On A Beach', not cos the A-side is a 2nd fave like that is but because it's from a career best album so that equals it together. This is my formula. If you want a really bad systematic effect, try 'If I Can't Have You'. Least 'Love Is Holy' is original but no Bee Gee song-even done way better than they ever could (not hard) is going to ever unsurp 'Never Felt So Alive' for brilliance.

Well, I can't understand how not only why EVERYTHING she's ever done remains AWAY from the singles market as an example of brilliance (while a bland song like 'Kids'n'Merica' gets Godly treatment) but how she, family Wilde and record company don't get care about it either way. Hidden is right, I only heard this for the first time today, and only because it's her 56th...
Most everything Kim does is a hidden treasure trove cos people too busy 'Hangin' On' about all the shit in the world like twistedly revered slagdonna and pointless old lags like Tina Turner, Celine Dion, Carey, Stansfield and overrated boring twaddle like Annie Lennox and Minogue to notice how truly G-R-E-A-T Kim always is! But ALSO, if everyone wasn't so hung up on the same 6 songs she always does live and nothing else, especially that bloody 'Kids' song that began it all, more might know this. Then again, maybe not, people are thick and tasteless generally, let's face it.
@FurryUmbreonGaming1188 It's not so much about want as the stupid idiots that seem to make up her main fanbase, like they'd all die if this miserable, unexciting, overrated little party-tune didn't bookend EVERY bloody show. It's rude to me, especially when I spend so long trying to get radio stations and others to realise she's so much more than this 1981 borefest and how it ends up being her least worthwhile thing when compared to all else. Unfortunately Kim has always had a wretched view of her own stuff while loving other people's crap always. And no, it's not just HER career. One average song doesn't make a career, does it. WE pay the money to see her live so WE would like a bit more than the usual. I don't know of a single enduring artist who does EXACTLY the SAME songs time after time, show after show, acting like they've no more than 6 tunes, while scumming up the rest of it with everybody else's songs and Christmas tunes. She lets 90% of her stuff rot and I wonder why she bothered having a career in music as she clearly doesn't like it, which she proves with every same show and with every song not sung. And who else would EVER end EVERY show with the SAME tired old song? Answer: only herself! Tragic.

In fact (and most should know this by now) if you made a complete chronological set of all her 80s non-album creations (from 'Shane' thru to 'Wotcha Gonna Do' you get 15 amazing songs and a collection even better than the debut, "Close" and up to the "Another Step" standard, which is amazing. "Here Come The Aliens@ from last year is also up to that standard. but nothing beats the perfect triplets "Select", "Catch As Catch Can" and "Teases & Dares".

An amazing song! I think this is better than the A side Love is holy-its more Kims' sound whereas Love is holy is more like a Belinda Carlisle track as it was written by Rick Nowels who wrote Belindas' hits- Kim is a good songwriter!
I have to agree to disagree, as I love Love is Holy & Belinda Carlisle too so I guess that's why I prefer it. This song is a nice find though !
'Birthday Song' is better than the A-side in that the song's far more imaginative and unpredictable than the usual 'I love you' stuff with the obvious chorus you hear a mile off before it gets there that Bel does because that's the Nowels/Shipley formula and they ain't (can't?) go changing. It's better cos it's a fave for me and 'Love Is Holy' isn't, but are both worthy singles? Yes. Of course. Anyway, who cares, 'Love Is Holy' AIN'T Miss Carlisle as she never got to record it. It was presented to Kim who snapped it up. And she does have the better voice. But there are many cases where the B-Side is better than the A-side, not cos the A-side is weak but cos it's one I prefer over it. Take the slightly preferable of 2 great ideas. For instance, 'Hold Back' better than it's A side, 'Putty In Your Hands' the same. A few equal each other-'Loving You' with 'YKMHangin' On', or 'Lovers On A Beach', not cos the A-side is a 2nd fave like that is but because it's from a career best album so that equals it together. This is my formula. If you want a really bad systematic effect, try 'If I Can't Have You'. Least 'Love Is Holy' is original but no Bee Gee song-even done way better than they ever could (not hard) is going to ever unsurp 'Never Felt So Alive' for brilliance.

Well, I can't understand how not only why EVERYTHING she's ever done remains AWAY from the singles market as an example of brilliance (while a bland song like 'Kids'n'Merica' gets Godly treatment) but how she, family Wilde and record company don't get care about it either way. If they all did, she'd get about 5 releases and album and non-album singles all the time like others do.
I'm not sure Cherry Pop will get beyond the first 3-and THAT took long enough, and remember there's still locked away songs from other years, like 1986 and 1995, plus a whole album (1998) locked in the Universal vaults to rot. Her record companies are shitheads. Always were.

She cares little about the majority of her own stuff out there, there's virtually no way she's going to fish out something that's virtually gone out of her mind, and would cost a court file to wrangle free. Too much trouble. Maybe if she actually held her work in the regard Siobhan Fahey did of her own, then maybe. But as she sings, 'Hope' is something we all need a little of now and again. But the omens stagnate-after all, Kirsty MacColl's shocking, premature and uncalled for death didn't set free 1983's "Free" from bloody Polydor. Bastards these people. And her family have made no move to try and get it. Record companies had too much power when they shouldn't have. Now they've sod all, the world's full of crap that should never have been allowed to make TEA for a producer and talent scout, never mind given a bloody record deal.
