Cool. I mount the metal socket rails in pairs onto a strip of very thin plywood which keeps them from tipping over. I do deep and shallow on the pairs. If I need some 3/8 metric 6 point sockets. I can grab the deeps and shallows in one shot. I did all my chrome sockets for like 12 bucks. I will admit your way is a lot nicer.
If those black pieces that go in the sockets are plastic they will break off from the rails and get stuck inside the socket. I bought a bunch of husky’s from Home Depot and junked them within a week.
I have 3 of these kobalt ones and 2 from other brands and the 3 brands I have seem to be the same and have held up great. Have them loaded down carry by the handle no issues yet and the oldest try is 3 or 4 years old but I never tried the huskies
I have the craftsman socket holder like these they have worked well for years. I have got some more of the socket pegs off ebay Chinese knock off they worked ok but I have has some brake over the years.
Why not just buy the separate rails instead of the tray? That seems stupid to grind off the rivets when it would have been cheaper to buy the rails separately and lowes sell the all 4 for $23 for the set

Great idea! I would probably find a plate magnet the proper size and mounted it to the bottom of the rail or something to make it keep from flexing
just a heads up you can buy same plastic socket rails @ harbor frieght for under $5 you get 1 1/4 1 3/8 1 1/2 been using them for years

I likeobalt but I'm not a mechanic and they keep things together so you don't lose stuff but
ihey are kinda tuff to get off
