    I like the extruded aluminum rails with the magnets on the bottom and the customizable socket holders. Harbor freight sells black ones under the US general brand, and not only does SK tools sell the same things except in dark metallic green, they also sell packs of spare socket holders. SK also sells them in half lengths which is really handy.

    The Weslings are Awesome, I've had them for 4 years, have used the heck out of them and they look brand new. I didn't need the markings. I use them enough I can tell you what size they are just by looking at the socket. Organization is so much easier.

    I went with the Ernst system after watching one of your earlier videos and have been really happy with them. My only complaint was standard twist lock pegs don’t work as well with impact sockets, but found out that Ernst makes an HD replacement peg that’s friction fit, which works way better for getting impact sockets on and off easily.

      Very nice glad your enjoying and I guess I haven't noticed any issues with my impact sockets but that other friction peg is good to know about. Thank you!!

    I also use the Ernst Socket Boss organizers. they work fantastic. i switched from the Hansen style peg organizers because they are just not very durable. i was always dealing with broken pegs on my deep and impact sockets and dome times the peg does not stick up high enough on deep sockets. I am a DIY mechanic / Old Car restorer, My husky box doesn't have the soft close drawers so if you shot one a little too hard they can break after time, also my garage is not air conditioned and i found out the pegs get brittle in the summer heat in the desert heat of the south west. when i decided to switch from Hansen i looked at a lot of different styles, The one thing that won me over to Ernst was the fact that the rail was removeable from the tray, and if you accidently drop a tray or knock it off your work bench or tool cart, the sockets wont fly all over. you may loose one or two but the majority will stay on the rail. i also like the fact they have the stickers to label the sockets on the tray. they have save me untold hours of searching for the right sockets.

    @TonyTheTechnician ~ This is another great video, but I really would've liked to actually see you using the socket trays that you bought for your boxes. Yes, you separated one "row" of sockets out of your Tekton Socket Boss system, which was very helpful to witness, but I was sitting here waiting for you to pull and/or add sockets to your organizer...and you never did it! Why would anyone care about this? Well, the reason I went with the Olsa Tools Magnetic Organizers you featured herein is the fact that the sockets are very easy to pull and/or add sockets from/to. I also like the fact that one can grab a set and not have to worry about them flying all over the garage floor, but the ease of actual day-to-day practical use is what did it for me. Anyway, if it's just as easy to use your Tekton organizers, kindly let me know. I've previously subscribed, so please keep up the informative video work. 👍

    Keeping the videos alive.... Quick question. How do you feel about the peg style organizers? They seem like they are usually really affordable, one of the most space saving and convenient with the size labeling on the top of the peg.... I have seen some on Amazon that are even cheaper then what harbor freight has to offer and offer more trays for less money. I think one of them is the one you showed on here for a moment.

  • @BrownR87
    @BrownR87 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Worthy of note, each time you say "takes up more/less space" you seem to only reference footprint, on the assumption of unlimited vertical real estate. Horizontal trays can let you use a much shallower drawer and save a deeper drawer for something that really needs it.

    Those Tekton ones look pretty well thought out. They are a little on the pricey side, but the guarantee is unbeatable (and they actually honor it). If you're buying new sockets, you can get sets from Tekton that come on the rails with the trays that drop the cost to being pretty much a no brainer. My own solution since I'm going to be getting a 3D printer will be to print my own along the same lines as the Olsa trays only 3 tiered. I rarely need more than a few sockets at a time so there's not much reason to worry about taking a whole tray out and I can always use a spring style rail if I need more than that. I get the OCD thing. I'd rather buy a no gap set even knowing I'd never use a few of the sizes than have some obviously missing.

    I wish that Olsa Tool holder had a simple durable plastic case designed for it . It's a nice system but it's not designed for something you could put in a tool box & toss into the back of a vehicle, if you did that then the sockets will go everywhere. The idea is that you would put the holder & sockets inside a case, close a lid and the sockets may jostle around but the sockets will stay inside of the holders for when you open up the case once more. You could trip & fall down a stairs but the sockets would be nicely contained & organized.
    I like the labels because it lets you quickly drop the sockets in the right spot after you've collected a bunch into a plastic bin.

    You mentioned twist lock but what you showed wasn't the twist lock by Mechanic's Time save, arguably the best socket holders available. What I have done is bought all 1/2 drive rails and then put the 3/8th and 1/4 pegs on them since you can buy them by the bag. I also have Snap-On's version which is labeled and I put those every 3rd rail in a row then it is easy to tell your socket sizes. One of the many advantages to this system ( I have all magnetic ones) id that when a socket is twist locked you can use that one socket to pick up the whole rail. Since they are not on the tray with the handle I can fir a lot more sockets in a lot less space and still tell what ones are which.

    Does the Ernst have the twist lock of just snap on? What about Toolbox Widget organizers?? The major drawback is you can not remove and take the set with you like a rail or drop on organizer. Crows feet and long Allen sockets are a tough. The allen are too tall to fit standing up in the socket drawer and the crows feet I have metric and Standard on the same rail, alternating. So all metric face the left and Std the right alternating std, met, std, met and so on.

    Do you have an opinion on the VIM magrail? I think they are the best, the down side is that I think they are very expensive, These rails are fully customizable as far as spacing and they really hold the sockets even upside down. One can makeup whatever components should be included or excluded. I wonder when the patent expires if anybody will start to make them to compete with VIM, Please let me know what you think.

    Instead of all those random affiliate links why not link the stuff you suggested in your video?

      They aren't random affiliate links. They are all products I have done reviews on and suggest. All my newer videos have it all condensed into one link.

      @@TonyTheTechnician I meant random as in not pertaining to this video. I find if the links are pertinent it is more helpful. At least consider adding links to products you suggest in addition to what other links you may consider helpful. Anyway thanks for the video.
