Disagree completely on the styling marks, I’ve ridden an 05 (last of the rounded model as in this review) for a bit over a year and this bike looks way better than the harder edges styling that took over from it. Newer does not mean better when it comes to beauty. To my eye, in the right colours (dark green or red), this particular bike is one of the best looking ones on the road.
Throw out the styling mark (because that's completely subjective and actually pretty irrelevant considering you aren't looking at your bike when your at the controls anyway) and give the motor the solid 8 it deserves and you get the grade for this bike that it deserves. 14 whole years later, it still compares favorably against any of the litre bikes out there. Can you tell I love mine?
I owned an early RS (so DSSA) then an ST, both 955i. Not the most attractive bikes but incredibly well sorted and very very very fast. Loved both but I enjoyed the RS more. The bars are a little lower on the RS and the steering was a little quicker, not to mention that it felt a bit lighter. Triumph was crazy to stop developing these. The later Sprints with the undertail exhaust looked better but in my opinion were inferior bikes. Topheavy and genital-roasting.
