Cab tour AND back window views? Can’t ask for more than that, fantastic stuff, and cheers for suffering my video as part of your Gothenburg evening entertainment 🤣
I thought I'd take this opportunity to thank both of you for your videos. They don't show bucket-list experiences that would bankrupt me in 72 hours, but equally don't involve paying 2 euros for a Yurt in a cesspit. Somehow exploring within a reasonable budget and not trying to kill yourself has become a niche!
Would be awesome if in the annual 'event' of a challenge between Scott and Steve, an additional person were added in. She may not be Scottish but G Loves Trains is great and and including the younger generation would be cool. Or Scott's son if he's up for the competition!
I love the way you and Steve are always watching each other's channels! Personally, your channels may not be the best, but they are both in the top 2! Edit. The above may read as if i'm choosing one over the other. Not the case, both #1 in my book!
That was a great video Scott . What a good man the driver was to let you visit the cab . A driver on the Cardiff to Ebbw Vale line let my grandson go into the cab once while we were waiting to get the train. It made mine and my grandsons day . Looking forward to the next video . Keep up the excellent work 😊.
I stayed in a hotel in Essen Germany Friday to Sunday and the room was spectacular and two of us for two nights paid less than a weekday single room for one night. The hotel catered for business people in the week and there were very few guests at the weekend. Bargains can be had!
Yes, this appears to be a hotel catering to business travelers, not so much to weekend tourists. Like the breakfast spread, worth half the price you paid for the room !
Fabulous video , so happy you got to see the drivers cabin you were like a wean coming out a sweet shop with a bag of free sweets. The hotel looked great and the breakfast selection was fantastic. Love that you and Steve support each other in your ventures.
Nothing wrong with green! Natures own colour! That breakfast choiceis amazing! I'm always surprised at how many countries include English in their announcements. Makes me proud and a little humble. I mean you'd never get Swedish on the 8.30 from Birmingham!
12.20 "it's very green" , well once upon a not so long ago all trains in Sweden were a rich red colour called SJ Red and that is replicated across the whole country where you see these idyllic looking red houses against a backdrop of snow. It is such a delightful country. My favourite by far in all of the Nordics.
A LONG time ago, I had a pen friend who lived in Gothenburg. Regrettably, I never had the opportunity to meet her, and watching your video brings back bittersweet memories. Hotel looked great, and if I ever were to make it to Sweden, I’d definitely try to go in the off-peak season as I know that Scandinavian countries are expensive. Excellent video (as always), and I look forward to seeing the quirky hotel in your next video!
Highly recommend Gothenburg, great city to visit. Airport is a bit away from the city and only connected by bus, and if you're coming from UK it's basically BA from Heathrow, a couple of unfriendly timed Norwegian Air services from Gatwick, or Ryanair from Stansted, Manchester or Edinburgh I think. The alternative is getting a flight to Copenhagen Kastrup and taking the nice gentle scenic train ride over the Oresund bridge and up the west coast through places like Helsingborg and Falkenberg.
Gothenburg is really, really, really nice in summer. As your Scottish TH-cam friend showed in his own video, you can pay a few dollars for a transit pass and get unlimited ferry rides to all these amazing traffic-free islands off the coast. It's a really nice city in spring, summer, and fall.
Three things stood out for me in this video, Scott. Your lovely accommodations (including the breakfast buffet), your visit to the FlixTRAIN operator's workstation, and seeing Steve Marsh on the TV in your hotel room. 👍
It's the little things like looking out the back window and getting into the drivers cab that make the trip that bit better. Chuffed for you Scott. That was a fantastic video put together
What a great experience all round - hotel and outstanding train journey with barely any passengers. The driver was a great guy to let you have a little poke around too!
Great video Scott, and certainly value for money with regard to your hotel & breakfast, as well as your train fare ! Nice to include Steve Marsh as well, love watching both of your video's on here, entertainment and honesty !
A total travelling experience Scott- the surprising high standards hotel with its excellent breakfast selection , the sunrise walk revealing the charm of Gothenburg, the unexpected cab visit and the chilly transit to Stockholm. You excel at these journeys Scott - well done !
I've stayed in the same hotel and have some further insight. Until June last year the hotel was owned by the Liseberg Amusement Park which is a short walk away. They sold it when they opened a larger hotel next to the park. It seems like the pricing structure is still based around the parks opening hours though hence the sharp rise in Summer.
I wonder which weekend did he check the rates for. It could have been during a big event like the Gothia Cup football tournament or a major concert at Ullevi, which tends to cause hotel rates to soar.
Great journey, I would love to visit in winter and do the same but after a winter visit to Iceland SWMBO has made it clear no more freezing weather trips!! (Have you considered wearing a hat for your cold weather scenes?)
Excellent video. Came across your videos last year when my wife and I were planning a trip from the States to both Scotland and Sweden. Great to see you visiting Sweden!
Great video 👍 Excellent hotel with decent pig out breakfast, superb train ride along with the cab tour and rear window shots. Above all great value for money.
That looked like a real bargain of a trip, from the super hotel (what a breakfast!) to the glorious train journey. What an advert for touring southern Sweden in the winter, Scott! Thanks for taking us along.
5:08 the hole is for a tower PC (like a gaming pc) to go in the choboard and yiur cables (keyboard, mouse, monitors, etc) to route behind the desk up to the top
I've been in a train driver's cab twice, that I can recall. Once in the early 80s, when I was a small boy, the driver of an HST at Edinburgh Waverley had my brother and I up for a visit. He was daft enough to let us sound the horn! The other was much more recent, and like Scott I was also taking pictures of the loco (in particular its "MADE IN USSR" plate), a 50-year-old Soviet brute of a thing still earning an honest living in Finland. The most important piece of equipment in a Finnish train cab: The coffee machine. Also in Finland, the preserved "lattahattu" ("flat cap") multiple-units. I'm not sure it counts, because passengers were allowed in the end compartment with the driver anyway. But it's fun.
Having stayed in Stockholm and Goteborg in many places, from Hostels, Af Chapman Ship on Stockholm, Langholmen Hotel and Hostel which was a former prison. Hotels have great showers, love the pressure. Hostels on the other hand can vary. Problems wth some hotel rooms in Sweden are no windows. Sometimes its nice to look out to see what the weather is like. Overall Sweden is an expensive and worthwhile experience.
I am easily confused. An hour ago I was reading your book, 'End to End', and you were in Ulaanbaatar (which incidentally is, I believe, regarded as a punishment posting in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office) and now here you are in Gothenburg. Great book and great video but I should have inserted a greater pause between partaking in both of them. I'm looking forward to getting back to the book, I know this is going to be good.
What a great a trip - the train ride was remarkable value for money! Very good hotel too at a great price. I've had kippers (a herring) for breakfast. Nice shout out to Steve Marsh. Getting very close to 50K subscribers!
That seemed like an incredible value for the entire trip, starting from the fantastic hotel with its impressive breakfast to the breathtaking train journey. Scott, you've crafted a compelling advertisement for exploring southern Sweden in winter. Thanks for letting us join you on this journey! And on a side note, if you ever plan on traveling from Heathrow, don't forget to consider the convenience of Express Parking Heathrow. It's a game-changer for stress-free travels!
Great video Scott, I've just read that there will be a 19hr train journey later this year or next year from Ostend to Bratislava operated by Leo Express, I know you'll be doing that for sure 😃
Looks great value and Stockholm a beautiful European city (one of my favourites) to visit, if somewhat expensive - even by Irish standards! Ive been planning more rail trips this year and this one really is good value
We went on honeymoon right across Scandinavia and Finland. Daily herring for breakfast was a delight. I was particularly obsessed with the mustard one. So a big yes from Scott CoasterDad but a still dubious from Claire CoasterMum.
Train looks very good. Especially when you realize that Flixtrains is using about 60 years old coaches (former DB) which they have refurbished to give them a reasonable modern look at the inside.
I have t been to Stockholm but I’ve been to Malmo which was only 20 minutes train journey from Copenhagen. I like Scandinavia but I believe Sweden 🇸🇪 don’t use cash anymore. Nice video I hope you enjoyed your holiday. 👍
Great video, much better without overlong sponsor segments or silly dirt seeking uvb torches. I still wonder about your safety wandering about strange cities at night. On that note, stay safe and keep up the good work!
Glad you enjoyed it, on another video FT seem to be either freezing or boiling depending on the external temperature. I took this journey 19 years ago going in the other direction. Stockholm was beautiful and the SR train went non stop to Gothenburg. I then took the sadly defunct ferry to Newcastle via Norway, cheap as chips.
They do seem very open to cab visits on the continent Only a week or so ago I cabbed a train from Amsterdam Centraal to Schiphol Airport as I asked to take a picture for my collection.
I really enjoy your videos. I thought you had a picture the same as your wallpaper in the BW at 6.00 but it was a reflection in the mirror 🤣 Lovely smile on your face from being allowed in the cabin. WOW What an experience.
Having been away to Bulgaria for just one weekend I get home with 1 Gothenburg-Stockholm video by Scott and 1 Madrid video by Steve available. Guess which one I watched first. Almost every week I sit in a train on my way to work around 6am with me and some railway employees talking about Steve and your videos. If you even want to travel in the drivers cab rather than with the passengers it's not hard to arrange that. In fact, I'm surprised Steve with his 100k followers never has been in front cab 🤣 btw I'm surprised that flixtrain wasn't filled up full. Every time I'm in Germany it's almost sold out ...
That was an interesting video. Somehow you missed out the impressive hall at Stockholm Central, or did not realise the beauty of the station above the track level. It is a through station like Kobenavn H.
Welcome to Gothenburg, the swedish front side ! The "Hotel Heden" is a former summer-hotel bulit in the late 1940´s as a a provisional hotel and student-home. The Steve Marsh cameo was a nice touch.
They are 2 very talented in their own unique ways 😮 Scotland 🏴 should be proud 🥲

A TV with a horror channel ! 😂
@@Ian-Steele Ha-ha .. made me laugh, actually I follow them both and equally enjoy their videos!
As a train driver in Denmark also driving the Vectron. I can tell you that it doesn’t only look good, but it drives like a dream as well!
Super cool!

Cab view on a train is a real treat. Was in Sweden once many years ago and enjoyed it.

Great winter value nice hotel scott great value train journey with bonus cab tour look foward too next video great stuff scott
Was in Gothenburg in June to see Metallica, drove there from Johnstone in the VW camper. Cracking city.
This is not a good video ... this is an excellent video!👍 Great views Scott.

Haha the running Steve/Scott thing is too cute!
SCOTT LIKE A KID IN A CANDY STORE IN THE FRONT OF TRAIN, LOL😅😅😅
🤣🤣🤣👍
The Swedes certainly know how to make a great breakfast! Just loved it.

So funny when Steve appears on the tv 😂😂😂
Flixbus/train’s new logo right there - “It’s a bit green, but otherwise nice and clean” 😀
It's the little things like looking out the back window and getting into the drivers cab that make the trip that bit better. Chuffed for you Scott. That was a fantastic video put together
That was a great video !!! The hotel looked great !!! That buffet looked great also...:):):) Well done...
Always look forward to these videos on a Sunday, cheers!
wonderful scenery!
Great video, Scott, as usual. It's no wonder you didn't sleep well after watching Steve Marsh. He has the same effect on me😂😂😂😊
What a great experience all round - hotel and outstanding train journey with barely any passengers. The driver was a great guy to let you have a little poke around too!
Beautiful sunrise x
Excellent hotel n train looking forward to next time😊
Oh for a chilled and comfy train journey like that on the UK rail network! Another great video, Scott. Cheers.
This was stunning. Incidentally love how discrete and quiet you are in public dining areas.
Great video Scott, and certainly value for money with regard to your hotel & breakfast, as well as your train fare ! Nice to include Steve Marsh as well, love watching both of your video's on here, entertainment and honesty !

Fair due's to the driver inviting you in for a look 👍👍

Excellent video Scott. What a fabulous train journey could not see them letting you do that in the UK
That was brill Scott. A cracking hotel by the looks of it, and a cracking deal on that train journey. A win win 😊

Sounds like a thumbs up all round with the hotel and train journey.
An added bonus too being invited into the driver's cab. Brilliant.

The X2000 train is amazing, should have done that one.
Wow what an amazing city
Totally agree with you about having herrings for breakfast
12:00 smooth scence!
You and steve should do a European challenge much like but on a bigger scale of the Scotland challenge you did last year 🎉🎉

at 5.12 the hole is for an electical wire to be fitted through so that the plug remains captive to avoid theft. Maybe a hairdryer or mini fridge?
Wish the room was as good as the breakfast at that accommodation.

Hi Scott. That was my favourite video of yours so far. Superb!
You should try ferries from Stockholm to Finland, they have even better breakfast selection.
Awesome Scott, thx a lot.
When I say you was off to Gothenburg, I was expecting some tram shenanigans. Liseberg is on my list to visit
Great video really enjoyed it. The price of the train was amazing wish we had flix trains here.
As always, great video
So great to let you in the drivers cab
I too Scott, did not skip the ads ! 😂
