I agree. Think Lindsey might soon be regretting his 2020 election interference, in GA. Maybe you and I if caught breaking the law, can now conflate our criminality, with a perceived appearance of an assault, to get off. Was that hearing about SCOTUS ethical breaches, or SCOTUS private security? Talk about conflating the issue.

I must say I have a new level of disrespect for most of the Republican's on this committee from their behavior here. There is a confidence problem in the highest court in the land where they consistently act as royalty over peasants. If they cannot resolve self policing, as we are, they will have NO authority among Americans in the future. This is a prolonged national crisis.

Does Graham really not see that everything he is complaining about in this effort to have ethics reform for the Supreme Court, proves why it really needs to happen? To try and point out questionable behavior and decisions of previous Justices back in the 70's, 80's and 90's does not negate the behavior of today and the fact our eyes are now open to the problems of 50 years ago and the problems of today. No one is suggesting change for only Conservative Justices but infact ethics reform for All of them! Full Stop! Also, people are talking about Biden being too old, and let's be honest, he is, but Grassley looks like he's talking in his sleep! There really needs to be an age limit in Congress.

The group gives them the short list and the Congress nominates and votes them in. Why do you think the Republicans stopped Obama from his appointment to the Supreme Court then turned around and did the opposite with Trump? Bought and paid for Congress and Supreme Court, plain and simple, not just the federal government but state government too. Look at all the voter suppression laws, women's medical privacy laws, allowing overturning of elections they don't like the results and gerrymandering so they can stay in power because they know they will lose every race otherwise.

  • @Traewing
    @Traewing ปีที่แล้ว +13

This was the best hearings ever.
It speaks to teaching students Civics:
    1. Is anyone above the law, within a democracy? Even SCOTUS (the Supreme Court of The United States)?
    2. Should the highest court of the law (SCOTUS) have accountability measures in place?
    3. How do we build a civilization where all branches of a government are held accountable to the whole?
In this hearing, SCOTUS, the highest court in the US, is being reprimanded to follow ethics and rules.
    4. What are ethics and rules? Ethics means morals and rules mean one of a set of explicit or understood regulations or principles governing conduct within a particular activity or sphere.
In this case, Congress is reviewing if SCOTUS is implementing ethics and following the rules of federal court judges
    4a. Some examples are:
4a1. Should SCOTUS accept monies or gifts from private citizens (or corporations)?
4a2. What could happen if SCOTUS did accept gifts?
4a2. Members of any court of law (under federal law) must recuse (or can challenge [a judge, prosecutor, or juror] as unqualified to perform legal duties because of a potential conflict of interest or lack of impartiality themselves. SCOTUS members are the highest and last word to every federal court. Should a member of SCOTUS be mandated to recuse themselves under the law of recusal?
    5. The US Congress sets basic rules for SCOTUS. Like financial disclosure rules (through tax returns); how many judges can sit on the bench to have a final say over American law; and more. Congress can even have judges to weigh the ethics of all members of SCOTUS to hold them accountable
5a. Should the highest court of the law be held to ethics and rules?
5b. Is it right to have a panel of judges to rule over SCOTUS?
    6. How SCOTUS works? If a person is in county court and thinks that ruling was unfair, they can appeal and take it to state court. If either party fails in state court, they can take their case to SCOTUS. But first, SCOTUS must take the case. If SCOTUS refuses to hear the case, the state court's ruling supersedes any case.
    7. What happens if a SCOTUS member is caught doing something wrong by a private citizen or a corporation.
7a. In what other ways can SCOTUS be compromised from giving a fair ruling?
Civics should be taught in all US schools across the US. This committee hearing should be a pillar of education as an example of education. Both sides stated their case. Even Graham gave a superb presentation.
    8. Now let us review Ted Cruz's presentation. Senator Ted Cruz was once a runner for president, a possible recommendation for the supreme court (SCOTUS)with the Trump Administration. Use Google to fact-check his history.
8a. How was Cruz's presentation differnt?
8b. Is travel alone (and who pays for it) the entirety of what makes SCOTUS non-ethical.
8c. How was Cruz's testimony different compared to other Republican legislators?
8d. Why are we here, and did Cruz present facts? What were the facts?
8e. What did Cruz misrepresent with opinion?
    9. What did you learn today?
That is a civics lesson that includes this video that would keep students engaged.

Yes, everyone in power should be investigated. This includes people in that room. You would find that most of them are corrupt, and some are career criminals.
But they will not investigate themselves. Even people where citizens have no doubt about crimes, where person is known globally for crimes committed will NOT be tried and imprisoned.

5,000,000 illegal immigrants have invaded our country since Joe took over. Montana has a population of 1,104,000. It's not about the importance of obeying the law. It's about avoiding news photos of too many illegal aliens crossing the border, which would bring bad publicity to Joe and his policies. What a message to send to illegal border-crossers. Thousands upon thousands of illegal aliens are crossing the border right now. This is how the democrats plan to destroy the USA, this is no accident, this was planned by evil people.
From Border Patrol source just now: “The problem with scabies is that is is highly contagious and the illegal aliens are getting in busses and commercial aircraft to travel around the country. The next person that sits in that seat now has scabies!” It is true that illegals are somehow getting onto commercial aircraft -- two days ago, I took a flight from the border city of San Diego to Denver, and was astonished to see the last seats filled in by a line of single weathered young men speaking Spanish and carrying raggedy backpacks who very much appeared to be recent border crossers. If it's true they were illegal border crossers, then yes, it appears likely that after some rough travel, they could have had scabies and spread them to the next person who took their seats on the plane.
Illegal aliens already know that if they turn themselves in to the Border Patrol, they'll be mass-released into the country without so much as a court date for their inevitably spurious claims to asylum. Title 42 resulted in the expulsion of only 19% of them, meaning the rest had an 81% chance of getting in. Now with Title 8, the result will be the same, and if there are a lot of them coming, they will simply be released - after lots of tough vetting, they claim, another one to make migrants laugh.
If they are slightly less lucky, they will be issued a "notice to report" to the authorities, called "parole," to be done on the honor system. Most, of course, skip the honor. If they are slightly less lucky than that, they will be released on an "alternative to detention," plan, or "parole" as well, and if it gets to that, there aren't going to be any parole officers looking for them once they skip their court date two, three, or ten years from now. Most will be released without even a notice to report to ICE - the full catch and release. That's been in the news, too. The New York Post has a leaked document.
The fact that the democrats are more concerned about television pictures of crowded detention facilities than they are about securing the border tells illegal aliens all they need to know about what their odds are if they cross illegally in huge numbers. Already there are 60,000 migrants massed at the border, and another 150,000 on the way. The more who cross, the fewer who get detained and expelled, owing to the Biden's real priority: the fear of those news pictures.
Illegal aliens aren't stupid and can read between the lines of messages. If Joe's priority is avoiding those overcrowded news pictures, then for them, the more who cross, the better. The democrats are truly sick people who hate the USA ! FJB !@!@!

Regardless of party that was in office whenever they were appointed, running a code of ethics that says that you can't take bribes, you can't take out or gifts that enrich yourself or benefit you financially 😳, if you don't follow the law and recuse yourself from cases that justice has a personal interest in or is connected to, then if you do, you can be subject to impeachment and removed from your position. It doesn't matter if you are Democrat or Republican. It is about holding up the integrity of the supreme court because it is obvious they do not do a good job at policing themselves 🤷.
Aside from that did you notice that not a single democrat partisan or blamed the right or pointed fingers, they seem to be interested in passing a code of conduct for all judges.
So why the Republicans against a code of conduct being passed no different than a code of conduct that is in place for Congress and for all federal judges and appellate judges?
Then you have Ted Cruz, 🤦ahhhh... Where do I even start? I'm not going to bother... I don't think he's defending the court I think he's defending anyone in d.c. to be corrupt. He's not even close to being on task.

What pushed the Thomas investigation was his wife being involved with Jan6 and he didn't recuse himself but Senator Whitehouse was doing his job and investigating the Justices because it was clear they couldn't police themselves since Robert's was being questioned with his wife's involvement of people chosing lawyers in her firm to bring judgements to the SC. Which is probably the more ambiguously valid position to hold rather than claiming separation of co-equal branches is the reason why Congress can’t do anything. Just about all the testimonies of these experts do not dispute Congress’ authority in respect to the Supreme Court. They set how many, when they meet, and the standards they must uphold. This Court is more originalist, meaning they read the document in relation to the intent of the writers at the time of passage. Thus, freedom of the press will be viewed from 1780”s point of view. The 1960’s liberal court made stuff up, rendering judgements based on their political whims. The liberal court stole power from the States, most notably the issue of abortion. No where does the constitution grant power to congress to pass laws on abortion, yet, the 1960’s Court held that a woman’s right to decide was a constitutional matter. They simply made it up. This current Court has found that abortion decisions are a States right issue, which is in concert with the 10th Amendment.
