About this video:
In this video Axel Beats analyzes all of the antagonists and villains in One Piece. Since writing the One Piece is a Modern Odyssey video, i've been wanting to take a look at characters like Crocodile, Enel, Katakuri and Kaido in more depth. The One Piece manga by Eiichiro Oda, which was later adapted into a popular anime by Toei Animation. Our discussion follows the story of Monkey D. Luffy who wants to become King of the pirates and all of the enemies he faces along the way. Along his quest he meets: a skilled swordsman named Zoro; Nami, a thief with a talent for navigation; Usopp, a liar who is skilled in long distance sniping, even being dubbed the Sniper King; Sanji, a the chef who kicks; Chopper, a reindeer who excels in medicine; Nico Robin, an archaeologist; Franky, a cyborg who is a talented shipright; Brook, a skeleton who can play any instrument and sing; and Jinbe, the fishman. The gang sets sail towards the Grand Line to find the treasure of One Piece, but terrifying villains await them. In this video, I explore antagonists from the arcs Romance Dawn, Alabasta, Skypedia, Water 7, Enies Lobby, Thriller Bark, Impel Down, Summit War, Marineford, Fishman Island, Punk Hazard, Dressrosa, Zou, Whole Cake Island, Wano Country/Wano Kuni and finally egghead island. On this One Piece odyssey, no poneglyph is left unturned as we explore all of the lore, theories, and analysis of One Piece characters. I definitely disagree with saying Buggy has no agency. His most recent appearance was him standing up to Crocodile and Mihawk and calling them out for not being ambitious enough to seek out the One Piece. That moment was him standing up for himself and finally asserting his dream, he’s had a great character arc.

Well yeah, but it was the only time in the entire story that he ever really did anything on purpose
I will agree that it’s beautiful when it does happen, but the reason its so meaningful is because it’s the first time he gets sick of having no agency and decides to finally chase his dream

Mihawk and crocodile are polar opposites but at the same time,the same
Both of them struggle because of their strength
Mihawk is too strong,while crocodile was too weak
While mihawk strength and lack of a valuable challenge left him with a lack of ambitions
Crocodile let go of his dreams because because of a defeat he faced
While buggy,unlike them was never strong
In that speech he exposed being Pirate King is a race, not a strength contest
I'll say this about Enel. I love how despite having a God complex, he doesn't really care about his defeat. Skypiea means nothing to him and he doesn't care what they did with it because he wanted the moon. It didn't matter he got defeated, he still pursued his goal despite that defeat.
He is unique in that sense
I'm passed off that he Rob Lucci isn't s tier. Rob Lucci, more than any other villain in one piece, has changed luffy the most and its criminal he is so underrated

Great vid man. Amazing how I can still discover such great creators in this community after so many years. Also I still strongly believe that Croc was a high ranking member of the rev given how covert, strategic and slow he opperates just like them. In addition he has ties to Iva and is the only big bad post east blue with no back story and the only big faction that also still lies in the shadows is the rev army. I think we will get a lot of info on him once Dragon enters the story.
Yo dude, I thoroughly enjoyed the video but was wondering why Kanjuro does not get a feature. I thought he was an excellent villain particularily given for how long he stays undercover and how it all made sense why the samurai kept getting BTFO'd by Kaidou's forces in the flashbacks. I appreciate the time you clearly put into this espcially during a long manga break. Thanks!

The only thing which would have been neat (and that would have been the cherry on top of the cherry) if the Thousand Sunny would have been replaced with a Floating Paw for Amazon Lily, a Marineship for Impeldown and Marineford, a Submarine + backwards counting clock for Luffy's Past and Boa's ship for post timeskip.
I actually thought about that lol decided against it because I thought there might be too many unique forms of travel to put together (ie. The octopus after skypiea, Amazon boat to Impel, prison ship to marineford) and I just didn't have time to do them all.

My favorite protagonist moment is when Jotaro pulls out a girl drink while playing poker vs Darbie. What an amazing flex. It was so goofy with the tall glass and straw being such a huge contrast to what you’d think Jotaro would actually choose to drink.

Buggy’s threat level should be way higher. Not that he’s capable of hurting anyone, but because of his tendency to fail upwards. I can def see him running away during the war on laughtale (if there is one), accidentally finding the one piece, then being named king of the pirates by morgans. Therefore he’s a legit contender for the one piece making him in my opinion at least a 6 of 7 on the threat scale

All One Piece Villains? Did you say ALL ONE PIECE VILLAINS? Finally someone on youtube is discussing EVERY villain in the series, and now people can see why they're superior to Naruto villains who are glazed as the best because they have admirable goals instead of just being better villains, which they aren't.
Okay? Itachi, Obito, and Sasuke suck balls. But Pain, Orochimaru, Gaara, and Zabuza rule

van decken is in the cycle of violence, he is just when you hate for no reason just to be the opportunist, which kinda a lot dictators do, and just donr believe in anything but use grievences from the past, while believing nothing. thats a nuanced take on how populist authoriterian dictators often tick.
But also yeah one piece and the other thing the arc has to do kinda makes it a mess.
I thought van decken is more interesting and , and as character at least, he is a creep, a menace to society, and goofy incompetent with his devil fruit.
How do you completely ignore Kaido's lack of a decent backstory? His flashbacks really leave much to be desired. Besides his aura and perfect introduction, there isn't that much to him.
My favourite villain is still Doffy for me but Blackbeard will eventually surpass him for me and my favourite antagonist is Katakuri still. Also Usopp being an antagonist during the Water 7 saga makes sense since we don't see him til the very end where Sogeking filled in his role xD

Buggy’s ability to be the biggest fraud in anime history that constantly fails upwards deserves top 1 villain
Saying that Buggy “has no agency” is INTENSELY incorrect. Cross guild only exists under the direction and clout of Buggy. It’s why Croc and Mihawk NEED him. And he’s now leveraging that against them. He obviously has to watch how far he pushes them, but most of the agency at this moment belongs to BUGGY.
That's like saying a pickaxe has agency over a miner because he needs it. Buggy -to this point - is still being held by the head and being told what to do. He said he wants to get the one piece, but that's it. No action has been taken yet. As I said in the video, once he takes some active steps things will change.
Remember, kids! Venom is *INJECTED*, Poison is *INGESTED*! If you try to do the reverse to each, you’ll still likely feel it, it just isn’t as effective.
Honestly it would’ve been interesting if they made Alvida Boa hancock rival for luffy’s affection and unintentionally creating huge fan clubs that constantly debate who’s more beautiful then the other.🐱

Why are shanks, mihawk and especially *USOPP* on the thumbnail? Mihawk is zoro’s main opponent (which doesn’t make him a villain) and shanks and usopp have become *friends* with luffy.
