I did buy a Taycan 4 Crossturismo MY2022 in November 2021. Just changed it for a Taycan Turbo MY 2020. I have drived the CT for 8000km and got 1,5k € more than i paid for the new car and had to put in 5000€ to get the Turbo with same miles on the clock.
There are two major factors car owners need to factor. 1. used market is higher that normal, once manufactures get too full production, the used market will get a double dip. 2. New EV market is new, todays technology will quickly age. Manufactures have created an artificial end-of-life by defining a battery guaranteed of 8 years. £100K cars have rarely held their value, while Porsche are better than most, a 5-8 yrs old EV Porsche or otherwise will not command the same values as its petrol version. The Market will have hold back technology to its typical 5-7 cycles else there will be millions of 8 yrs old EV no one wants. Would you buy a 10 yr old Porsche EV that once did 200 mile but now does 140 miles, when the current industry standard (at that time) is 400 miles - Petrol never had this problem.
In some markets, the Taycan has 2x its original value. In some countries, exotic car dealerships have a few used Taycans in stock. This is because in those places, EV's pay a much lower sales tax. So what many exotic car dealerships do is that they use Taycans as a tax shelter for customers who purchase an exotic car from them. For example, when a customer walks into an exotic car dealership to buy a $500,000 Lamborghini, the customer could buy the Porsche Taycan for $250,000 and pay a lower sales tax. Then they would trade that Taycan in for the $500,000 Lamborghini. The customer would only pay a higher tax rate on half the value of the Lamborghini because they wouldn't have to pay the sales tax for the trade-in value of the Taycan. The taxes saved could be as much as $100,000. So in some places, Taycan has an artificial value that is much higher than what they are actually worth in other markets.
I know this is 7 months old, but in those 7 months they have dropped a lot. I paid 189,000 august of 22 for my 2021 Turbo S and dealers are offering me 130,000 as a trade. The window sticker was 219,000 as it is well optioned. Pretty huge drop.
I want to add that model year 2020 cars lost a lot more value because those cars tend to be problem prone. The 21 and 22 esp after the PCM upgrade are much more reliable and sough after as a result. Also when you add in the federal tax credit and the increasing cost of gas getting a taycan esp new at sticker is a great deal.
3:00 Porsche can't make enough cars because of supply chain issues so the ones they CAN make they choose to be the most expensive where they make the most profit. This must be a similar situation with the 992 911 Turbo and Turbo S. Haven't seen that many videos on the Turbo but that could be me.
Excellent as always. I figured based on observations of the market that they were holding their values well. Could the lack of Turbo models on the market indicate those buyers are the most likely to retain ownership long term?
Good info on a market not often discussed. Regarding your upcoming McLaren video, I would be interested in your analysis of the 2020 600LT Spider market. Thank you.
Write to Porsche PR to see if they’ll share they Turbo vs Turbo S sales data. They’ generally open. But in the used market it may be top-spec models are more likely to be bought and flipped than the ‘base’ Turbo, which are being held by enthusiast purchasers-which cannot be replaced with another new Porsche due to supply. The mileage graph supports this idea.
Obviously, you haven't a driven a Taycan yet, because it's very much a "REAL" Porsche. I traded my 992C4S in for a new Taycan 4S earlier this year. The Taycan drives like a 911 EV that happens to have four doors. If you get the opportunity, spend some time with one -- it's an amazing car. With that being said,, I always appreciate the content and efforts. Thank you.
I don't think I'm a good judge as to whether or not a Taycan is a 'real' Porsche. It's a question that was brought up by journalists in the first reviews.
Very interesting, thanks. I’d love it if you’d compare the Audi e-Tron GT. The Taycan is a common sight in the UK now, but the e-tron GT still rare. Porsche is traditionally the most resilient but does rarity give the e-tron an advantage?
I would love a taycan, but I dont even have a house where I can charge it overnight, so it's gonna cost the price of a taycan + the price of a house, and Im not sure I can save up that much in my entire lifetime
