I was joking when I said "i can't wait for stage 4" on the first video.
I didn't think you'd try to actually get to this point, you absolute mad lad. Now I'm legitimately curious how stage 4 will sound, this video was already pretty good (especially Mournful cameraderie, it's like a window into what the EATEOT4 video will probably sound like)
Thanks for all the support! I haven't had a chance to take a crack at Stage 4 yet, but yeah, it will probably be something in that vein.
Stage 4 is probably the first one that will really challenge my "piano only" rule, and push it to its limits, so we'll see how it goes.
@@FikretX what I can think of you could do for stage 4 and the rest would be like superimposing piano notes or something like that, since the vast majority of subsequent stages are songs and effects superimposed on each other to give the feeling of confusion

Just put the Post Awareness tracks in a MIDI converter, it’ll not only make it easier to make, but it will convey the feelings the original tracks conveyed too, the chaotic mess of sounds. The clear moments, like the Heartaches leitmotifs in G1, Hell Sirens, Was It A Dream, Piano Chords in N1, and transient echoey arpeggio in Q1, would still be constructed like Stages 1-3 were.
I've thought about doing that, but I don't like the idea for several reasons. The first is that anyone could do that for free and it seems kind of a low-effort copout. It also ends up being an inferior version of the original: same frequencies of sound, but just limited to the plinks of a piano.
My third big issue is that one of my principles (which have guided this project from the start) is to create pieces that can conceivably be played by a two-handed human being on a piano. Obviously, this would violate that rule.
Overall, even though the songs degrade and are not meant to sound "pleasant" as such, I find chaos for chaos' sake unsatisfying artistically. Just like how The Caretaker deliberately messed up these pieces with a clear intention of mind, I still want my pieces to sound like "statements".
I hope you understand my rationale.

massive respect for making such beautiful piano covers AND putting visuals. Insane.
Something really cool about this version's interpretation of Mournful Cameraderie are the drones being replaced by sustained, loud chords. It reminds me of a clock chiming or the bells of a church tolling, which adds an ominous dimension to what the piece is meant to represent; the patient's awareness has come to an end, and as the bells ring out, they begin the long and agonising decline through post-awareness towards the disease's inevitable conclusion.
The fact that you went back and redid this really shows true dedication. What an excellent content creator!

I was fully expecting to see stage 3 to be rereleased like 6 months from now, and I would be perfectly fine with that, but this was amazing that you fixed it so quickly. I have definitely thought about opening a Patreon, but the issue is that at this stage, I'm not sure where exactly I'm going to take my channel, or where it's going to go post-Caretaker. As a result, I feel kind of unjustified in asking people for a regular monetary contribution without having something regular to promise people in return.
I am definitely open to revising the idea though, and maybe in the future I (and the people watching this channel!) will come up with a good idea for how to proceed

I was a bit bummed when stage 3 didn't have any visuals, since your series has been a huge help for learning to play my favorite Caretaker tunes on the piano, and stage 3 is my second favorite album of his. Your rendition of these songs being nothing short of lovely, just made me want to learn to play them so much more than I initially thought I would.
The fact you went in and redid the whole stage (must have been one hell of a job) warmed my heart, and showed the intense dedication you have for this art.
Considering how great your "Camaraderie at Arm's Length" cover was, I'm especially looking forward to your take on An Empty Bliss Beyond This World.

PS: A bit of a nitpick, but in future videos could you differentiate the natural notes from the sharps and the flats with color a bit more? You did that in your earlier videos as I remember. This isn't a huge problem, but it helps a bit when learning to play.

Yes, this time I decided to make all the keys the same color because I didn't realize anyone was focusing on that, but I guess it didn't occur to me that it definitely matters for someone trying to play. I will keep that in mind for the next one!

When I really wanted to replicate a section that had consistent, ongoing volume, instead of doing what you did in F8 since I didn't feel like it would really work well, I just piled a whole lot of reverb onto it instead. A lot of other piano channels had different amounts of reverb too.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and also, the intention was to play a lot of notes in succession. and make the seam more blurry for the effect.
Anyway ｎｏｉｃｅ． Can't wait for Stage 5 because Stage 6 is so simple that it's sure to follow shortly after.

Yeah I mean e.g. E6 would have been such a headache to try and sync to the chaos of the original. I actually made the coherent version with the intention of scrambling it later, but I was so proud of it that I didn't wanna mess it up, and I thought that it would be annoying to do so anyway. Stage 4 will be an actually scrambled version though, I don't want to just be playing the original found samples straight, because it really doesn't reflect the mood of the stage.

e6 still sounds scrambled but it’s just being played normally and it hurts my brain
how to play stage 6:
1. press the lowest keys with sustain
2. at 46 minutes in, pres a high note, then press another 1 1 step higher, and then another 1 1 step higher than that, with sustain
3.do 1 for a little while
4.12 minutes before the end, buy an organ, and start playing a C MAJOR chord (can do on piano more difficult to maintain the sound)
5.6 minutes before the end, follow this: @
6.for 1 minute after that do nothing.
7.after stage 6, walk away and cry.

Hey, are you going to cover other albums, like Patience (after Sebald) or A Stairway To The Stars?
Good question. It really depends on the vibes I get from the album / whether I like the songs, whether I feel like I'd be "adding" something by covering them, etc.
For instance, I like listening to Patience, but I feel like because a lot of the songs are already classical/piano pieces, it'd be relatively easy to just find and transpose the sheet music, which isn't as fun creatively for me. Haven't listened to Stairway yet, but I will at some point, so I'm reserving judgement on that one

Late stage capitalism in relation to what? What would be early stage capitalism? Is it even reasonable to suggest there are stages in such complex structures that are human economic systems? Is there such a thing as late stage socialism or communism for example? It just seems like a term meant to deride and not to actually describe anything, but maybe I don't understand it.
