My top 100 of all time. This song is my life. Trying to maintain simplicity in a complicated world.
Most of the key members died in a plane crash. They will live on forever through their music ... RIP
Lynyrd Skynyrd is the standard bearer of Southern Rock.
I'm only 39, so this was released before I was born. However, this is my favorite song EVER hands down.
It's so sad. Several of them (including the lead singer) died in a place crash in the 70s.
Curtis Loew, The Needle and the Spoon, Tuesdays Gone, I Need You, Sweet Home Alabama, Gimme 3 Steps, That Smell, so many, Free Bird, but do the studio version first and then the Live version on July 2nd 1977 at The Oakland Coliseum Stadium. Legendary!!! Tragic though as 3 and a half months later on October 20th their tour plane crashed in the woods in Gillsburg, Mississippi at dusk with 24 people and 2 pilots, 6 were killed including both pilots as well as Dean Kilpatrick the bands road manager, Cassie Gaines a backup vocalist and her brother guitarist Steve Gaines as well as the heart and soul of the band lead singer Ronnie Van Zant.

This is what I grew up on my dad would play this and many other classic rock songs, we laid him to rest with the song Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd and also Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum if you haven't listened to them both great songs. Can't go wrong on southern classic rock. ❤️

Amazing song by a great band!! They have a very deep catalog too. My personal fav is Ballad of Curtis Loew. They do still tour but it isn't the original lineup. Because there was a plane crash in 77 that killed Ronnie and 3 other members. His little brother took over lead vocals and they continued one later

MUST check out Shinedown’s cover of Simple Man. There are many who believe, including me, that Shinedown’s version is greater than Lynyrd Skynyrd’s version.
Beautiful song. They were an amazing band with quite a few classics. They are no longer performing, as unfortunately half of them died in a plane crash in 1977...

It is amazing and tells the story of how his wife Sharon saved his life from the drugs and alcohol that almost killed him..Its deep but still a banger!
