  • Hi everyone!! In this video we'll be discussing some common misconceptions students have when attempting to apply the exercises they learn for Voice Feminization. This video will touch on proper practice, vocal care, and other elements such as learning to dynamically tweak our voice in real-time, even without being in a strict learning environment!

    It’s been years, two of them for me. It’s insane to me, Z isn’t just goals anymore like if I wanted it I could sound like her, I could, it’s not the distant goal that it was when I first started but I finally have a voice that makes *me* happy. I did it, I won.

    Just as you said, I definitely experienced the biggest growth in my voice skills when I started using my feminine voice not only in in my bedroom, but also in everyday situations. That way, instead of just a few practice sessions a day, every social encounter become a voice training opportunity. Months later, I finally became comfortable with it, and now, I can fluently maintain it. Thanks Zhea!

    the thing around 11:30 is really a problem for me because I try to apply my trained voice when speaking to other people but I automatically revert back to my old voice and I just cant really control that. Especially when talking to my friends, when I'm at the counter in the store and I'm talking to the cashier then I use my trained voice but when I'm talking to my friends then I'm reverting back to the voice I associate with chilling and thats my old voice.

      Is a mental status, where you felt safe to revert into old voice instead of get into trouble (not really but maybe you think this way) by staying in your in-training voice. Try to think that nothing is gonna happens that is your natural voice (in-training) and see if that helps you navigate.

    Learning how a new voice is like learning a new language.
    English isn't my first language (My native one is Portuguese) and I'm only able to communicate very well in this tongue (as I'm doing now for example) because I started practing it by watching videos, thanking, and talking to myself, all of this entirety in English.
    Along the time to communicate became more and more natural and fluid.
    What I'm trying to say is that that's exactly the same that happens with voice training.

    • @bummedmachinist7483
      @bummedmachinist7483 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Experiment with speaking from your diaphragm, you might be putting too much emphasis on the muscles in your throat/head. They should all work together and when you speak it should feel very clear, and concise with no strain. Maybe when you start out it will feel like flexing the diaphragm, don't take that as a rule.
      Voice training is going to be very fluid and you should focus less on the muscles youre using and more on the sound youre producing.

    I fully understand that you can't go into detail on a such complex topic and it's hard to give good answers to just comments without meeting these people in real life. But it's still slightly frustrating when the answer to "I've tried your tips and I'm straining my voice" is "then you're just doing it wrong, bye!" (:

    • @TransVoiceLessons
      @TransVoiceLessons  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      i dont think that was said or implied ever? the main point is - doing little “exercises” or “tips” arent how you drive to your goal. voice is dynamic and the ability to dynamically react to what you hear is key. there are tons of ways a person can strain or misuse the voice and they sound a little different.
      - issues of strain in onset
      - misbalanced weight / pitch
      - constriction
      - jaw tension
      - extrinsic facial tension
      - tongue tension
      - etc
      so yea, its a lot. in order to really give meaningful feedback to someone experiencing strain, i need to be able to hear. the ear is the guide in all of these things. it's not about being in person with an individual, just audible. there is a lot of content on this channel and the patreon that discusses this topic in various ways and with audio. main thing is you need to recognize perceivable strain as one of the most important types of feedback - they are large caution signs that signal something needs to change.
      “doing it right” and “doing it wrong” arent really useful frames i try to promote. they are primarily value judgements. we want to nurture and develop stronger qualitative hearing.

    You know how it's sorta a thing that people with ADHD look up productivity tips and see all these tips clearly meant for neurotypical people, try them, fail, and feel like a failure because they are told "you should be able to do this", yet can't to save their lives?
    I feel that way with so many voice tips and even the tips in this video. Like they are targeted towards neurotypical people and that's why I keep on failing at them despite being told "you should be able to do this stuff".
    I best follow rigid, clear instructions, I'm not creative, I'm not good with experimenting, I can't mimic (like you state that we all did as kids but it took me a while to talk as a kid and I had to see a speech therapist too)
    I don't even know where else I'm going with this comment tbh. It's been a year of voice training for me and while I have a voice *closer to* feminine than when I started, its still so far off. I feel like I make progress, then go backwards, then make progress again, then backwards, over and over. I *had* to brute force to get to where I am now, because I can't mimic. I can only mess around and try to make my voice slightly better over time. But I've hit a wall.
    I'm missing some pretty important quality/qualities to my voice and I can't figure out what. I still think its my resonance as I still struggle with all the larynx raising exercises I find.
    I wish I felt like the top comment, like Im winning, but I don't. Everything is a struggle and I just feel like there is something fundamentally wrong with me.

    • @TransVoiceLessons
      @TransVoiceLessons  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Sorry, I definitely understand the struggle. I am not neurotypical. I was diagnosed with ADHD at age 12 and have been primarily non functional most of my life outside of music and sound so I definitely relate to looking up productivity tips that I couldn't apply. The advice I'm giving in this video isn't for neurotypicals or non however, it's universal voice learning advice that leverages how speech development works. Everyone is different. If you had difficulties in speech acquisition earlier on, you should be patient with yourself an expect the process to be a bit more of a grind. That doesn't mean you can't achieve your goal.
      Ultimately these are skills that we can develop more as we try to mimic, play, explore, and interact with our voice. The format of this content (a video where someone is talking) may be a bad container for your neurodivergence (it is for my ADHD, I can't learn from videos). Definitely nothing wrong with you, it sounds like you've been making reasonable progress. The journey takes time. My timeline took well over a year before I had something I liked. Nothing is broken with you~!

    After 2.5 years of training I gave up, no idea how you get your voices, which one you are happy with and sound natural without being recognized as trans. I hate using my trans voice, almost more than my pre-voice. It's desperate, the voice I feel doesn't match the voice I'm creating and I don't know how to solve this dysphoria. Maybe one should also be honest and say that it is not possible for everyone to get a beautiful voice, after all, according to my speech therapist, I'm 80% further than the other students, but she doesn't know how she can help me either and told me maybe I should go to another speech therapist. If I was so good at learning voice as a child, why did I need 3 years of speech therapy to partially get rid of my lisp?

    • @TransVoiceLessons
      @TransVoiceLessons  ปีที่แล้ว

      The accidental acquisition of a lisp is an extremely minor tuning issue relative to the massive undertaking it is to learn to speak an entire language. This is like saying, "If I am so good at gymnastics, how come I got a 97% instead of a 100%?" or "If I am so fluent at English, why do I still misspell some words?" You still finished the marathon. You are indeed very good at learning voice. Lisps can also form for reasons which are unrelated to an individuals "ability" of voice learning. For example, if someone grows up in a household where the parents phonemically produce an /s/ in very different ways, the ear will then categorize these together a bit and widen the "acceptable" range to form the sound around - thus potentially producing what is later seen as a speech idiosyncrasy. Whether these need to be "fixed" is entirely dependent on the individual as they don't represent "broken" aspects of speech - just idiosyncratic movements.
