    So much human excellence is brought together to make these sounds.
    The design and construction of each instrument.
    The creative genius of the composer.
    The years of committed study and practice that each player has devoted to achieve such quality of playing.
    This is the pinnacle.
    This is humanity at its best.

    The third movement-Andante cantabile-is one of the most achingly beautiful movements in the classical music canon, and these musicians perform it with genuine passion and feeling. Bravi to them all.

    The piano reinforces the lyrical melody while the string instruments give the rich combination of resonance, harmonic intensity and grace. Cheer delight to listen to a harmonic and energetic performance!

    I always thought that this quartet of Schumann was as inspired as his famous quintet op 44. I think that in this genre, there are 4 masterworks: the two by Mozart, that of Schumann and the second of Fauré. Just after that, I would put the second of Dvorak and the first of Fauré and those of Brahms. The best of Brahms, in my opinion, is not th most known, the first op. 25, but the second op. 26 which, by the way, is the longest chamber music work of Brahms. Here, affter the slow introduction and deribing from it, the initial movement sounds already like a moderate scherzo. It is typical of the inspiration of Schumann. The final has the same trend to fugato than the finale of the quintet.

      Gérard Begni All 3 quartets of Brahms should easily be in the first tier, IMO.

      Children, given the opportunity, will eat nothing but sweets.But there will come a point when the body's wisdom of its needs will assert itself and the body, starving for real nutrition, will make wiser choices.
      And so it will always be with art.

      @prabhudhasivanson7110 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Western classical music can never die, and it certainly isn't a "dying art". The maybe relative decline of it in the west is more than made up by its growing appreciation in eastern countries like China, Korea, etc. and now in India which has its own tradition of classical music; but where western classical music is ever on the rise in popularity!

    A superb scherzo, transparently and joyfully played; and a really singing andante. Notos also achieves a beautiful balance between the four "voices".

    In the final 13 bars of the third movement, the low B-Flat on the cello was not played.

    • @susanhalderman9118
      @susanhalderman9118 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That is where the cello has to tune the C string down to a B-flat. He probably opted to play a version that is available now where the C string isn't tuned down, so it has been re-written in the Andante cantabile and the Finale with the notes transposed to avoid the tuning down. Only thing is, can't play that low B flat. Oh well! Still good without the low B-flat, When you keep tuning your C down every time you practice this piece, it wears out your C string where it goes over the bridge. I'm about to play this piece, and will do without the low B flat too. C strings are too expensive! Still a nice piece, regardless of the low B flat. :)

    • @GSHAPIROY
      @GSHAPIROY 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Susan Halderman You probably don't have to do it every time you practice, but you should do it in the final concert.

    • @susanhalderman9118
      @susanhalderman9118 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1
