I've been playing piano, classically trained, for almost 50 years. I believe I have earned the right to have an opinion as to the "greatness" of a pianist. Khatia is an incredibly gifted and passionate pianist whose interpretation of Rach 2 is refreshing. People who criticize either do not truly know or understand music from the perspective of the pianist or they are just cruel and jealous of the talent others possess. Many people may think people are merely born with a gift. Yes it's true there MUST be a certain amount of raw, natural talent involved - this is obvious - but what people don't see are the thousands and thousands of hours one practices to achieve greatness. It's a discipline most are never willing or capable of achieving. So a word to "critics"....once you are honestly able to say you spent your childhood, teen years, and many adult years hovering over a keyboard of other musical instrument, playing until your hands hurt, wanting to stop yet can't stop because the passion that compels you to play exceeds any physical pain or social price you pay for missing out on many things..hen you can have a platform and a right to criticize a true musician. Until then, you need to be very careful. When one lays their hands on a musical instrument to play in front of others- they are actually laying their soul bare to show the world. It's a vulnerability few can ever understand and certainly something small minded people can not respect.

She is wild, she is free, she is splendid and she knows how to enchant the listener's spirit. Schumann's Klavierkonzertt is fascinating and it is a GEM!. There is dynamism, emotion, a rich spontaneous wealth of lyrical melody, the contrast between lightness and power are well emphasized in the composition. The brilliance in the composition is clearly given the fire and intensity by the concert pianist Kathia Buniatishvili. An awesome Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and conductor Paavo Järvi.

Magnifique concerto .
The most beautiful and spontaneous interptretation I have ever heard. It is such a privilege to witness the intamacy and understanding not just between the soloist and coductor, but members of the orchestra as well which was evident throughout. Truly a magical performance.
F I N A L L Y !!!! A classical performer that brought fashion to the stage. Yes, this is a concert hall - but a concert hall in modern times. I love to see fashion and love great musicality together. I think she played beautifully and SLAYED!!!!
Wow! Great emotional capacity and interpretative powers on pianist's part, and on orchestra's part as well. I have been listening to only this record for last one month for Schumann's piano concerto.
This woman is top shelf. Are people dumping on her because she is beautiful? I would guess YES! A blindfold test with some of these trolls would reveal the truth, but cowards never put their money where their mouths are. The first time I heard this was w/o video and I had no idea who it was; all I knew was that it was some of the best piano playing that I had heard in years.
I heard her playing a Rachmaninov Piano concerto a few years ago under the baton of Zubin Mehta and found she is very popular and proficient and finds the mood. Yes she is excellent.
Same here. I heard her playing Rachmaninovs 3rd concert, and was blown away. The fact that I later saw that she is also a hottie was just icing on the cake.
Khatia is one of the greatest I have ever seen, and please look up her other videos, all posted on TH-cam. It si absolutely amazing, that in each case, she performs perfectly with no music notes in front of her--it's all from memory! FANTASTIC performer!
Wonderful! Khatia Buniatishvili plays with a sweetly tragic expression ... it seems that the farewell is sounding that two lovers give each other after a life spent together (I'm referring to the first movement of the concert). Excellent audio and, above all, video recording: it can be understood perfectly (because the performers are framed) when the piano converses first with the clarinet and then with the oboe, in that poignant phrasing. Thanks to those who posted these wonderful shots.
As always this wonderful Orchestra shining. I can see my most admired Clarita Andrada at her "magic flute". Mr García, excellent Spanish oboist, the Argentinian Concertino, my admired Akemi and all those marvelous musicians. A remarkable conductor, Maestro Paavo Järvi. And the last but, of course, not the least a young outstanding pianist Kathia. Thank you to all of them!! Great performance, superb music by Schumann!!
Khatia Buniatishvili is an excellent pianist, very talented, beautiful and fills our soul with pleasure with her interpretations, and that of the entire orchestra.
Yes, one of the best interpretations of Liebestraum No3 by Liszt. Normally, there is great deal of "Kitsch"-danger in this piece. She performs it in a subtle manner that is not at all sentimental.
This was Beautiful the pianist there are not enough words to express your talent you were AMAZING and the whole symphony was OUTSTANDING. I was mesmerized it was so relaxing with emotions filled with such passion you can experience it right through the phone. Now this is the Epitome of teamwork when everyone play there part for one single goal you get an Awesome Beautiful Symphony that is out of this world❤️❤️🌹🌹

I found 2 cds in a free fair about 15 years ago, one of them was Bach’s cello suites n. 1 and 2, the other one was a collection of Edward Grieg’s and Robert Schuman’s piano works, at that time I was very immersed into Ancient Greece, the Renaissance, poetry and modern art. These Schuman’s opuses were the perfect soundtrack for a very special journey through cubism. It’s not easy to explain how amazing, inspiring, encouraging, and poetic that period of my life was, yet it still lives on while listening to this performance. I’m so grateful for having found this beautiful musical geometry. Thank you nature, I feel you nurture a part of me which needed your endless love.
I first heard the Schumann sixty years ago at the age of sixteen and it has remained my favourite piece of music of any genre since then. This a fabulous performance - but I’ve fallen in love with that flautist!
Some comments believe she is showy or flashy and that "classical music needs no frills and posturing." I disagree. In a live performance, the "performer" is part of the performance. If Khatia is "flashy" here, then Beethoven was s a horror as a much sought-after pianist in Vienna of his days there. Don't like what you see? Just close your eyes and listen (of course you'll miss seeing her excellent fingering and her touch on the piano and necessary body movement, if you happen to be a piano player). I have listened to classical music for more than 60 years now, and I find Khatia's interpretation of Schumann's piano concerto authentic and true to the Romantic spirit of Schumann. Clara Schumann, herself a superb pianist, would most likely have approved of Khatia's performance as recorded here. Personally, I wanted to cite just one specific passage that begins about 5:17, where the piano has a "dialogue" with the clarinet and then with other instruments. That, to me, is Schumann's love song to Clara, if not a lyrical gift to all of us. I'd recommend a similar lyrical "dialogue" between the oboe and the bassoon in the opening passage of the 3rd movement of Schumann's 2nd Symphony. We are blessed to be able to see and hear Khatia perform live for us.
I would love to agree all of us should enjoy the music for what it really is. We should feel the emotions of the musician . Hear the sweet sound the musician makes with the touch of each key. But, I searched youtube for "women piano players". Over half of all the women were wearing some type low cut top, tight dress above the knees etc. Women do this to get noticed and do not tell me otherwise! Some of them go as far as looking like strippers, minus the dance pole. Then women, such as yourself, wonder why people end up looking at their bodies rather then enjoying their performance. This attitude takes away from their true authenticity of being accomplished pianists and puts them on the same level of being just another sexy body; similar to Sports Illustrated swimsuit models. As for me I do like what I see. But I fall into the same class of 99.999% of all men and we represent half of the world's population. I would love to be wrong here but sadly, I think we both know it's true.
@@georgescancan7503 Thank you for reading my wall of text. I have always associated "classical" music as being just that, classy. But when watching above along with, Yuja Wang, and Amanda Palmer, just to name a few, they cheapen themselves with their attire. Their performance is often overlooked or greatly diminished. Further, women often get frustrated that men view them as sex objects. In other words women are being noticed but in the way they should be noticed. Hearing about Linda Lampenius, it sounds like she had some hard learned lessons of reality and I am sure she has come out much wiser now. I hope others can learn from her experiences.
I am sorry Wendy I have to disagree . This is a classical concert not a rock concert . What matters here is how well the piece of music is interpreted . And although she does this well . She does not have to do it in such a dress. Yuja Wang is a great player too . But she also does not have to dress as a female rocker .
I am in awe of us human beings how we have started form primitive instruments and made our way to this amazing incredible stuff. You musician guys are truly incredible ♥
Some would say that the "primitive instruments" _and music_ are just as accomplished. Different, but no less sophisticated. You just have to listen carefully and you'll get it.
I think it's amusing how so many viewers are focused and/or disturbed by what Khatia is wearing. The point is that it's a magnificent piece of music, played by a great orchestra, conductor AND a soloist who is not only physically attractive, BUT IS ALSO a consummate technician who injects life, soul and passion into Schumann's work. Why not simply enjoy the music instead of letting the world know what your insecurities are?

Totally agree with you. I suspect that if the people who are complaining about Khatia's attire were BLIND, then there would be almost zero criticisms from them. They're just too hung up on her physical appearance and don't realize that a beautiful woman like Khatia can truly be blessed with extraordinary musical talent.
See my comment above. The dress is a distraction and disrespectful to the performance experience. Imagine a male wearing a speedo and performing this piece. Why not? We (the straight male, if there are any left) are not "hung up" on the dress. She is very sexy and the dress is designed to highlight and exaggerate that. Genetics.
LazlosPlane I suppose we can agree to disagree on this one. For me, once the music got started my focus was on her performance as a pianist. But I can accept that for some, like you, her dress kills the performance.
I heard the sound on music wile my wife was watching the stereo, the sound of piano was so beautiful that without turning my head to see who can be playing the piano so marvelously, I told myself that it is khatia playing the piano , never mind it was Khatia this wonderful piano playe who cout the piano at fire she can also create a world of ecstasy for listeners.
Schumann is one of the first super romantic composers, so Buniatishvili's musical expression matches the appropriate style. Her clothing seems to attract attention from some commenters. What her nearly backless dress shows is the perfect rams-rod straight posture of a fine pianist. She not only shows this foundational aspect of her pianism, but has finger accuracy and speed and well controlled wrists. That she is communicating expressively can be seen on the faces of some of the orchestral players who respond physically to Buniatishvil as they listen when not playing. At the conclusion, the orchestral players were all smiles and applauded. Believe me, orchestra members can't be fooled. They'll keep their hands in their laps if they think the soloist is a fraud! I've seen it several times. Here we had an enthusiastic orchestra who clearly knew they had just accompanied the real thing.
I watch Khatia frequently on my HD tv her performances are unique and magnificent, such a beautiful and talented young lady whom I have great respect for.
@@sigurdkaputnik7022 That's pretty much true for most other things too. At least talent can be honed and somewhat look too (well, appearance anyway). Thank you, Khatia for such a magnificent and soulful performance. And, as for your Liebestraum - The overtones you create are otherworldly. I have heard you play it many times but this rendition is surely the best. You hold the universe in your hands. Thank you. Bob
This is one of the best performances I have ever heard, and the way she ended it, the linger, the wait, the expectation and the unexpectation of it all, it was superb! As I said, one of the best I have ever heard. And to not miss it, this one is probably the best orchestra she has performed with, I've listened to at least 10 other of her performances and this one is particularly special mainly because of the orchestral tone.
Great performance of my favorite piano concerto! Robert Schumann was one of the first composers I played when taking up late piano lessons at age 18 (Kinderszenen).
Think of the devotion that these musicians put into being able to play this beautifully. I sure appreciate them. And Khatia, she is a gift from God for sure. As always, Moms are the ones in the background whose patience and love of their child and the art that they produce .... the unsung heroes of all artists. Thank you Moms.
Still enjoying this performance after dozens of times, but cannot understand how Khatia extracts such unique richness out of Schumann's score and the instrument. Thanks also to FRS for the compiled video.
Just watched a Yuja Wang rendition of this. I'm struck as to how 2 pianists can see the same notes and interpret them so differently. Love both for different reasons
I also watched Yuja Wang and to me Khatia on the overall is much!! better and mostly much more suitable for this lovely Romantic Schumann's concerto. She does not pound the piano, especially in the 3rd part, etc., Also Is innately elegant and has class.
Only a muse like Khatia Buniatishvili is able to add to a great piece of music created by a male composer, all the feminine qualities that turn it into a complete masterpiece: elegance, sensuality, refinement, joy, and passion.
@@LindaSohier-d6x Then why do you bother asking the question when you know the answer already? It is : No, a male piano player couldn't do this. Only women have female elegance, female sensuality, female refinement, and female passion. Man and woman are equal but far from identical. Go fight your battles somewhere else. I'm responsible for what I say, not for what you understand (or not).
I always have to stop everything and just listen, when Khatia is playing. I feel all kinds of emotion from the expressive story that she is playing for us.
Gracias!!!

As It happens - I quite like this particular performance by this pianist in that dress at this concert hall. Tysm
Fashion is trivial shit.
@@dreamdiction Well, trivia happens.
I wouldn't call that fashion. That dress doesn't flatter her figure IMO, and the back is not classy.
A beautiful interpretation. I enjoyed her performance from start to finish along with that of the entire orchestra. Wonderful!

Yes, one of the best interpretations of Liebestraum No3 by Liszt. Normally, there is great deal of "Kitsch"-danger in this piece. She performs it in a subtle manner that is not at all sentimental.

Magnifique concerto pour piano et orchestre. Interprétation remarquable. Bravo Khatia !

If you play like a robot you sound like a robot.
Her throwing her head around made me think of Beethoven’s hair and I assume he did the same sort of thing
I am sorry Wendy I have to disagree . This is a classical concert not a rock concert . What matters here is how well the piece of music is interpreted . And although she does this well . She does not have to do it in such a dress. Yuja Wang is a great player too . But she also does not have to dress as a female rocker .
Isn't it wonderful to see the orchestra so animated and 'lost' in the music, of course the pianist is phenomenal.

Yup. Kills it.

What do you mean, responding physically? Are they aroused or what?
huh, he said rams-rod.
What a reply! You're so right Mr. Maurice

Still enjoying this performance after dozens of times, but cannot understand how Khatia extracts such unique richness out of Schumann's score and the instrument. Thanks also to FRS for the compiled video.
Among many this is one of most difficult piano composition to play. Very admirable and use your 10 fingers very actively.
