To all you people complaining that anime brought people to beautiful music like this, shut up and just be happy that they're listening to this masterpiece.
Same as a Classical Musician the music drove me to watch it. I appreciated every aspect of it to the beautifully played notes due to my own experience as a Violinist of 10 years started playing at the young age of 5. This piece in particular caught my attention and I plan to either play this (well part of it) or In regards to love Eros for my Final for Orchestra at the end of the year and play it in the fine arts days at my school.
I've been a fan of Classical Music since I watched FMAB and FMAB introduced me to Akira Senju, thus opening my ears to Orchestral Music and Epic Music. Afterwards, I watched Shigatsu Wa Kimi No Uso since I like violin and piano already. The anime widened my horizon to more Classical Music pieces.
Unfortunately accompanists are still very much ignored when it comes to partnerships like this.....the pianist is Lambert Orkis - a superb player in his own right.
My favorite part about her violin playing is the quiet parts because I understand how much harder it must be than the loud parts to play quiet, steady notes, with great intonation.

Context and story is such an important part of enjoying classical music - for me personally, watching Your Lie in April has deepened my appreciation of the Kreutzer Sonata by 100x. Thank you creators of the anime for infusing this beautiful sonata with such an amazing story.
It's true, the sonata really fits good with the anime. I love the sonata a lot and i remember that back when i heard it in the anime i was so happy that they put my at the time fav sonata in the anime :) The only unlogical thing abt it is that the girl is only 14 while playing this (at this level of skill).

Beethoven's Kreutzer Sonata is undoubtedly the greatest violin sonata in the whole repertoir. It is certainly the most 'expansive' and the longest. No wonder that Tolstoy was deeply impressed and moved by it; who wouldn't? It arouses so much passion and longing, like much of Beethoven's music.

Just discovered that this sonata was first performed by Beethoven and a black violinist called George Hightower in Vienna.Beethoven had finished the piano score but had not completed the violin score when they had to go on stage.They played and when they reached the point where the violin score ended Hightower improvised to the end.Beethoven was so impressed he asked him to play it again.He then dedicated the sonata to Hightower.At some point they had a falling out and Beethoven re-dedicated the sonata to Kreutzer.

Yeah, rewatching Your Lie In April imo d i d get pretty boring. It was pretty interesting when I watched the series for the first time but when rewatching it, I kinda found myself skipping through a bunch because it just wasn’t as interesting as I remember it to be. :/

Nice, short story time ... my wish, I could play some pieces (like those from Your lie in April anime, but also others, like now from Carole and Tuesday) casually, brought me to begin learning the piano four weeks ago ... and learning the piano brought me to TwoSetViolin (their videos actually keep me from practicing), cos there is no way, to miss their videos, as soon, as you begin looking for playing classical instruments. But well, here I'm mostly, cos, as a fact, since I began learning the piano, my interest in classical music has grown. Even if this piece is, for someone, learning solo on the piano, not so interesting (at least not for playing and even less after 4 weeks learning ;)).

The alternating quiet, gentle and loud, passionate sections describe well their relationship in the story. Periods of love followed by periods of hate and anger.
Finally, a person of culture!!! Tolstoy’s short story wasn’t what brought me here (I’m a violinist, and this sonata is a staple of our repertoire), but the fact that you know it even exists and that you enjoy it makes me feel so happy!!! So often I find people who don’t even know who Leo Tolstoy is these days🤦🏻♂️
The fact that my daughter was the student pianist who played this magnificent piece of music with a student violinist at the opening of a new concert hall in Houston around 1993 or 4 brought me here! I just wish I could find the video - somewhere on a vhs.
I used to study at this little music store that offered violin lessons, and they had her poster on the wall of a practice room that we used a lot. I used to stare at her picture while I was learning because she looked like she was a really great violinist. It's really nice to finally hear her music. I hope I can get to play this piece someday.

There's been a fair amount written about this great Mutter/Orkis collaboration in all their performances. Orkis is not too shabby for a man with working class roots!

Most musical works pass me by. I'm a scientist at heart all logic, I don't think I hear what others hear when they listen to music. But this, It moved me.

I just finished the novella, and it's how I found the sontata. I find that this music does really weird things to me, especially in context of the story. I feel just like Pozdnyshev in his daze after listening to it.

there is not a greater performance of this out there. Played so much like I truly feel it was invisioned in it's composition. thanks muchly to Mutter and Orkis. they are great together.

For five years in the mid nineties I lived and worked in New Haven CT, basically surrounded by the Yale Campus. Every day I walked through the buildings of the music school there, past, I believe Stoekel Hall, or sum-such. It was a small recital hall and there were (free) performances there every day that classes were in. One day I saw the Kreutzer Sonata posted on the board, to be done by two old members of the faculty. It was the only time I ever saw this done live. White haired men. The violinist broke a string in the first movement and compensated and continued to play brilliantly and with absolute passion.
Why did you stop saying it? You were perfectly right. I say, however, and have said for a few months now, that Mendelssohn's Sextet is the greatest piece of music ever written in Western History. And I'm perfectly right. And will be until I encounter another favorite.
The first performance make me remember kaori. She was memorable character for me that even tough i know she was not real i always remember her and her music. Her love for music like my love for sing was the same. When she die in the anime i crying. And somehow till now when i see calender years after years sering her death date i still crying.
the concert on 27th November 2019 in Hong Kong was fascinating. Though the recording is also fantastic, it cannot really bring up that intense atmosphere. My face covered in tears after the 1st movement. That was unforgettable (づ ●─● )づ

I didn’t realize how hard the piano part was until I started playing it. Its unbelievably fast and Orkis did an amazing job playing so clearly.
It's all about the fingering. Much of Beethoven's phrasing follows "hand positioning" rather than "finger sequences".
The piano is actually the featured instrument not the violin. Sad that people don’t get this.

Cultural evolution doesn't always produce positive results, and when it does they tend to be pedestrian, but occasionally, as in the case of the Kreutzer Sonata, they are an astonishing triumph.

I just finished the novella, and it's how I found the sontata. I find that this music does really weird things to me, especially in context of the story. I feel just like Pozdnyshev in his daze after listening to it.

Why are people complaining that she isn't showing emotion while playing? It isn't that big of a deal. Listen to the beautiful music and stop complaining that she doesn't look perfect for her performance. Like really? People always have a complaint about SOMETHING.

Tolstoy has a story with same name. I came here after finish the Tolstoy's story and I highly recommend to you, everybody pls read the book.

when I was younger, I used to say that this is the greatest piece of music ever written in Western History.
For five years in the mid nineties I lived and worked in New Haven CT, basically surrounded by the Yale Campus. Every day I walked through the buildings of the music school there, past, I believe Stoekel Hall, or sum-such. It was a small recital hall and there were (free) performances there every day that classes were in. One day I saw the Kreutzer Sonata posted on the board, to be done by two old members of the faculty. It was the only time I ever saw this done live. White haired men. The violinist broke a string in the first movement and compensated and continued to play brilliantly and with absolute passion.

Why did you stop saying it? You were perfectly right. I say, however, and have said for a few months now, that Mendelssohn's Sextet is the greatest piece of music ever written in Western History. And I'm perfectly right. And will be until I encounter another favorite.

The story behind this piece is tragic.
Apart from the fact that the Tolstoy novel was written afterwards... So nothing to do with the music.
The first performance make me remember kaori. She was memorable character for me that even tough i know she was not real i always remember her and her music. Her love for music like my love for sing was the same. When she die in the anime i crying. And somehow till now when i see calender years after years sering her death date i still crying.
the concert on 27th November 2019 in Hong Kong was fascinating.
Though the recording is also fantastic, it cannot really bring up that intense atmosphere. My face covered in tears after the 1st movement. That was unforgettable (づ ●─● )づ

15:28 - 16:15 - Best moment in the whole series. . . . they played all 10 Beethoven Sonatas over 2 nights (least I think it was 2) and devoted an entire year to this project - the concentration required would have been enormous - and AS-M played all 10 from memory of course.

Piano accompaniment typically bothers me, I've never been sure why. This dude is an exception; I'm enjoying his playing almost as much as Mutter's!

@ jean wolas:Yes it is by Tolstoi and he got into all kinds of trouble for writing it. It was banned in Russia because of it's theme of illicit sex. Same thing with Flaubert's "Mme Bovary where Flaubert was brought up on charges of corrupting public morals.
