I appreciate the close up look, i ended up buying the Rocca all satin finish razor for myself around the holidays thanks to yours and a few other wet shaving youtubers videos about it. I had the R89 twist and wanted something a bit more aggresive and in stainless steel. Seriously considering starting a wet shaving series of videos for the 4 or 5 razors I own and differet blade types. In an effort to get more young people into trad wet shaving here in Canada, though ive never uploaded videos before really and am nervous about talking to the camera the whole time, i am inspired by a few of the more popular channels like kevy shaves and friendship shaving. Anyways love the Rocca i use it more than any other razor i own now, glad ppl like you are spreading the word. Happy shaves !
Thank you very much for the kind words and I’m glad you like the razor! And if you’re thinking about making videos and can picture yourself doing it, you’re already most of the way there. It is fun, interesting, and challenging. A bit nerve racking too lol. But if it’s something that you are passionate about, step up to the plate and take a swing! Make sure to let me know once you do, I’d happily follow along.
@big_hands thanks for the reply mate. I appreciate your channel and a few choice others that have led me to buy some stellar razors. Don't own a rex yet, a bit pricey for me... do you have a fave ? You like the envoy more than the Rocca or ?
@@recordspinner94 the Rocca isn’t mine, sometimes I swap razors with a buddy from work who has a decent collection too. But between the Envoy and Rocca, I do prefer the Envoy. I think it’s probably a familiarity thing, I’m just far more used to the Envoy so I can get a bit better shave out of it. All that being said, I have a Yates 921 and it is the best shaving razor that I’ve used. I made a “custom” 921 with the H plate and a shorter handle and it’s wonderful. As efficient as my Envoy or Konsul but it’s also very smooth and forgiving. I believe it ran me ~$150 USD and took a couple months to get. But if you’re on the market for a new razor, I can’t give the 921 enough praise
great quality! thanks for the video, considering getting my first razor and this one really caught my eye. I think it's one of the finest ones. Hoping it will work for me, my skin could be sensitive sometimes, but my facial hair is really coarse, so maybe, with good skill It will get me sorted (hopefully for years ahead)
Been my daily driver for over a year now. I have the birch bark handle version, which is just delightful in the hand. I needed about 5 or 6 shaves to really master it and have rarely had even a weeper since then. Derby and Astras are as aggressive as I will go with it. I shudder to think what might happen with a Feather or a Kai. The extra weight has to be respected as it does the work. When we talk about "light touch", this one isn't to be trifled with. Weirdly enough, Muhles "Companion", a razor designed for unisex and all body use is as aggressive as all get out and not far away from the Rocca.
@@BuffaloNickel9 It definitely is. I have both and there's no doubt about it the Rocca is a more aggressive razor.. not ridiculously so but it's definitely more so than the R89. I really like my R89, personally.. I think the R89 is a sweet razor. If you want a mild but high quality stainless steel razor I think the Feather AS-D2 is another good option. Though if you wanted a Rocca, I'd just get it.. its just like any other razor, you get the feel for it.
I have the Birch Bark version too, R95 I think. I use it with Feather Premium Hi Stainless. I too found the Rocca quite aggressive at first.. I'd been led to believe it wasn't really much more aggressive than the R89 but I feel it is. First time I used it I just used it like I would the R89 and I got a little redness and sting when I used the alum block afterwards. But never really had any issues since. I'll occasionally use a Personna or an Astra but I just think Feathers are the best blade for me. I really like them and they give a nice close shave and as yet I've never had a single nick when using a Feather blade.
This razor is, for me, the perfect razor. The only suggestion I would make, would be to only shave with and across the grain on your mustache, not against the grain.
They aren’t officially either in my country but I went to their official website and ordered that one with it’s Stand, it took me two moths but it arrived 😊And worth the wait
Been using a safety razor now for 2 years and just broke my only one a 34c. This razor be okay for a person who has been using a very non-aggressive razor for 2 years. Thanks
Astra ss razor blades with it are really good. Cuts really sharp but smooth. Astra sps are smooth with it but aren't as aggressive as the ss . 7 o'clock sharp edge are to sharp using it or Gillette nacets . My opinion
I haven’t ever tried the Astra blues at all, should probably pick up a pack. The SPs for me give a nice close shave but I seem to always wind up with slight weepers. Nothing crazy but my face gets as good of a shave from other blades without the blood. Thanks for tuning in man
Nice review mate, I have this in my collection. I was attracted by the nice finish and good reviews. To me it's aggressiveness seems extremely prone to the blade being used, seemingly, more than any other razor in my collection. 🙂
I think the Rocca is an aggressive razor that can give a moderate shave with a mild blade and the Envoy is a moderately aggressive razor that can give a very aggressive or very smooth shave depending on the pressure used. If you’ve got a heavy and and go fast, the Envoy can chomp you up but with very light pressure, you can get a very comfortable shave
I’d do this uncoated stainless. Reason being is in 5 years the coating may chip or get worn somehow and that would drive me nuts. Not saying it would do that, but it could.
It’s a really nice razor, glad my buddy let me use it for a while. One thing to note is that , to me, it seems to change the shave it gives a bit more noticeably when using different blades. By that I mean smooth blades are really smooth and aggressive blades feel pretty aggressive so be open to trying different blades to find what suits you. And as for the camera, it’s just my iPhone. It does do a pretty good job though
Shame Muhle don't offer a Short handle version, main resson I've not purchased one over the past 8yrs of wet shaving. Great video btw, most informative I've watched for this razor, have Sub'd 🕉
I thought that was a Rex Envoy up top.. is the other a two-tone Gillette Fatboy? How does this muhle Rocca shave compared to the Envoy? Yep it's a Fatboy i see now..
To me the Rocca is a bit more aggressive in feel on the skin. Also it seems to feel slightly larger but less dense in hand compared to the Envoy. I really enjoyed it though

Does the water over time affect the Birch Bark wood at all?

One of the prettiest safety razors I've ever seen. I'm in love. Too bad they are not officially sold here in Brazil.
Yea they’re great, I really enjoyed it while I had it. Hopefully you get your hands on one
They aren’t officially either in my country but I went to their official website and ordered that one with it’s Stand, it took me two moths but it arrived 😊And worth the wait
Are we sure that the device is 80 grams? The Mühle Rocca I bought is 106 grams. I weighed it on a precision scale.
I never weighed it personally but there are several websites that list it at 80g
Great video, thank you
Hey thanks for tuning in

I’d agree with that completely. It really made a difference from a moderate blade to a Feather for me.
for those getting cuts when shaving, is this occurring while shaving WTG or only ATG?
Awesome detailed review! Question: is the Envoy more aggressive than the Rocca? I've heard the Envoy has a lot of blade feel, but haven't used either.

Is this the MUHLE ROCCA R94 SAFETY RAZOR STAINLESS STEEL
I'm very undecided whether to take this version or the all black one, what do you recommend?
I’d do this uncoated stainless. Reason being is in 5 years the coating may chip or get worn somehow and that would drive me nuts. Not saying it would do that, but it could.
@@big_hands thanks..we have the same opinion 😄😂
Raw Stainless For sure
I'm considering getting this one as my first safety razor.
Awesome review by the way. What camera did you use to record? Great quality.

@@big_hands I see. Good to know. Safety razors are very new to me so I'll be trying out different blades until I find a nice fit for me.
Very sleek and branding isn’t gaudy. Nothing beats the aesthetics of the Rex, however.
😂😂😂 you must be joking mate….

I’m partial to short handles also. It’s a good razor though, glad my buddy let me borrow it. Thanks for tuning in.
