You just made my day. I have a 2018 zr2 duramax. And I have been worried about gms reliability. I currently have 34000 miles on it with no issues. Glad you had good things to say about it.
I could see that. Right now I have a 2016 Buick Encore with a trailer hitch. I have a couple of light trailers that haul firewood, building supplies, motorcycles, etc. It does just fine and that truck would work great.
Lol this has happened to a whole two trucks, awhile towing, with a camper going down a rough trail. Same thing happened to several gladiators without campers in the beds.
not sure about this engine when they start production in Flint, but those made by Isuzu seem to be very reliable. Again, that's a good Diesel, not some fragile gasoline engine made for planned obsolescence.
This engine is one of the most used engines over the past 30 years in South Africa with Isuzu dealerships. Can't go wrong. 300k miles without issues is common.
At least it's covered under federal emissions warranty for 8 years/80,000 miles, or 15 years/150,000 miles in California and any state that follows CA standards. Since they almost always build to California standards to sell in all 50 states nowadays anyway, they should generally be engineered to last at least 150,000 miles. Repair once to OEM specs, and it should go until at least 300,000 miles. Sure, I like to be frugal, but needlessly making black soot and polluting the air when it's easy not to (at least for the first 150,000 miles) doesn't make any sense. I might have a contrarian streak, but I'm not retarded. ;-)
yeah...ask a fleet mechanic about the baby duramax.....and its real fun trying to get parts with the strike plus the coof....hope u saved all that gas money...youll need it

That Isuzu 2.8l diesel is very popular in Asia. It directly competes with the 2.8l diesel from Toyota . Both of these engines can put a million miles without any problems. Both these engines are even used to power boats across Thailand and Indonesia.
Oh scotty you are wrong I bought a brand new one in 2018 with this little diesel motor in it and it was in the shop more than it was in my driveway they are totally junk I unloaded it just as soon as the warranty was up
My dad has a aluminum dog box on the back of his new 2021 crew cab pulling a trailer with a polaris ranger with dog box on it. He got the 3.0 w/ the 10 speed. He's getting 21 mpg and is very happy with it. He traded in his 2018 v8 that was getting 12mpg these averages are loaded.
I have that 3 Litre turbo diesel in my Holden Rodeo one tonnner ute here in Australia. 200,000 miles, 2004 build, bulletproof, economical and lots of low speed torque. It’s a very popular motor down here.
When he was talking about 35 miles per gallon I thought that was a bad thing. From a English perspective that is terrible gas mileage you should be getting at least 50 on a long run like that. Diesel is about $7 per gallon in the UK.
Scotty That's Amazing and I feel uplifted when you like GM. I never, never, after what you have been saying thought you would like a GM product! Amazing and seems to prove your not stuck on one brand which if that product is made exceptional enough you will tell it like it is! Bravo!
I pulled a camper with my 2016 and plan on pulling one with my 21 Canyon. Never had an issue. Just tow what the truck is rated for. My camper is a 20 footer with a toy porch on the rear with an overall length of 30 feet. The only grip I have with the GM 2.8 is the fuel filter system uses a 38 dollar dual cartridge system that is based on both time and restriction. However if my 21 goes 174 K like my 16 then I will be happy.
If the frame light weight , how can it tow with trailer?🤔or what can the back bed be load with . does the bed have a weight limit?I would like to owe but I like to tow and use bed alot
Isuzu makes one of the most reliable Diesel Engines.. My grandfather still have his Isuzu Pick up he bought brand new in 1985. I'll even dare to say they're almost as reliable as Scotty's Celica.
The Colorado/canyon has slowly becoming the best mid size pickup with different trims and component improvements this generation. I anticipate the next one will likely be even better than the Tacoma in all regards
@@joejakubec9708 I'm also 6'2" and a coworker has one. Entry is difficult because the distance between the seat and the top of the door frame is too small. My head bumps the ceiling because the truck has a sunroof. My Kia Soul has more headroom and legroom.
I know why Scotty likes this truck. Everything from the turbo to the DEF system is constant maintenance. But when they are new ,they're great. This Chevy Canyon truck would be a great lease vehicle.
GM sold the Rayong plant in 2020, its producing the new Mazda truck. That truck “moves Thailand “ with an Isuzu badge they sold thousands a year across SEA.
This happened to two whole trucks with camper, trailer, and an offroad trailer going too fast. More gladiators had bent frames with out campers in the bed
@@wantedformoney12 super weak metal and cheap plastic for double the price of the old card. Might as well buy something old, put a new motor in it and change all bushing and bearings. Probably save some money also.
It's not weak metal, it's abuse. You overload a vehicle beyond its capacity and then go hard offroading you're going to do damage to it. A camper on one of these trucks is fine, just don't expect to hit a 3 foot swoop at 40+ miles an hour with a overloaded tongue on a trailer and expect everything to be ok on the other side. Old trucks wouldn't do it either and have seen them bend in half with nothing in the bed.
I know the stories involving the bent frames and they had loaded down beds and trailers and were on the same offroad trail at different times when they bent their frames. Same place and circumstances for at least one guy in a gladiator
@@kareemakbar4975 That's called a restomod. I've got one. Calculate what it should cost and double it. I built mine in a year and that is considered very fast. When you're done, you'll have an awesome looking vehicle that people love, but it won't have any modern safety features. It isn't worth it.
My cousin has a ZR2 with the diesel in it. Says he can't do better than 26MPG. BUT it's lifted AND has larger tires. It's all original to the ZR2 package. Still pretty impressive for a lifted truck with larger tires. And it moves along pretty good.
To clarify, The sticker in the glove box is talking about a cabover camper in the bed not a bumper pull trailer. I personally tow a 7000lb travel trailer with incredibly ease, passing semis at 55mph up grades
did you see that the new silverado 4 cyl's water pump is ELECTRIC?! suuuuuuure hope they did not use anything close to a bmw design. That would scare me away quick, which sucks cause it looked like it actually towed great

That 2.8L diesel is made by VM Motori, the same company that makes the 3.0L diesel in the half ton Rams that Scotty hates per a previous video. It is 90+ percent the same engine used in Jeeps in the early 2000's.
"Rear wheel drives all you really need"
Me: looks out window at 28 inches of snow
yeah NEVER get 2wd, unless you live on flat land like Texas......everywhere else you're GONNA need it, trust me.....trucks are horrible in 2wd Snow or mud.
True, the main reason I have 4WD is to get out of my driveway in winter
Ha, I have tried an experiment. Only use 2wd with my Tahoe. I haven’t got stuck yet this winter. It does have a trac loc in the rear so that helps a little.
4wd won't help that much in 28" 😉
@@willb3018 nope. We had about 12" when I left work Monday and it got me home just fine. By Tuesday we had 2 feet and my truck was drifted up to the door handles. That sucked to shovel.
Got 113,000 on my 2016 chevy, so far nox sensor and def injector plus wire harness replacement, was rubbing. $1400 in repairs so far but what I've gotten in return is well worth it
4:18 Chrysler, BMW, and Mercedes are watching you scotty
I am here to say I have this truck , with the diesel engine , and I LOVE IT! You can get more than 35 mpg if you’re trying! My max is 44.1 average. And it tows 7,700 lbs safely. Great truck!!
I have a jeep liberty with the old version of this engine. It's an updated version of the vm motori engine, it's not an Isuzu engine, at least from a foundation standpoint. I tow a 4000 lb trailer with my little suv, it does great, but I'm always worried about the chrysler reliability.
Yep a little research scotty
I have a 2wd Colorado diesel & got to hypermiling going south on I 75 across KY. 41.6 mpg. The dealer tech saw it on the display & couldn't belive it
I thought you were going to say it got better mileage because it’s parked. lol Nice looking truck, probably expensive.
I paid $42,000 for mine. It’s fully loaded 4X4. I only get 30mpg in mine.
@@PumaPete full time 4x4?

Glad you had good things to say about it.
Z71 2016 duramax, 81000 miles, engine is doing great. You wanna straight pipe it dont ya?
Scotty, With all the emission systems on today's diesels, they are problems waiting to happen. Buy it , and you will be sorry!
I have a 2006 Canyon. It gets the same mileage as a Kia spectra. Taller guys with long commutes will love them.
4:18 The reflection of a customer who wants their mechanic to get back to work.
The dealership I bought my v6 gas colorado had a diesel colorado. I was impressed.
I wouldn't say a 2.8 liter is a "little bitty" 4 cylinder lol..
Toyota also has a 2.8l 4 cylinder engine , toyota used to make a 3l 4 cylinder engine
...it’s itty bitty😏
I have one and found it slow... I had to put an intake and a transmission tune on it.... its alot better now programmed it to shift quicker
I have my big ol' Buick with a 1.4L four cylinder. Of course it cheats because it has a turbocharger.
@@carholic-sz3qv they use to have the 2.7L cylinder engine as an option in the first generation 4Runners.
I could see that. Right now I have a 2016 Buick Encore with a trailer hitch. I have a couple of light trailers that haul firewood, building supplies, motorcycles, etc. It does just fine and that truck would work great.
Ya when you hear it may bend the frame no thanks
Lol this has happened to a whole two trucks, awhile towing, with a camper going down a rough trail. Same thing happened to several gladiators without campers in the beds.
If its at a good price sure might just have to reinforce it myself
I was never a Chevy fan, but I like that truck! I would definitely consider it if I was in the market for a pickup.
You said small engines in big cars will become “ Endless money pits “
not sure about this engine when they start production in Flint, but those made by Isuzu seem to be very reliable.
Again, that's a good Diesel, not some fragile gasoline engine made for planned obsolescence.
2.8 is still pretty big for a 4-cylinder
2.8 is not that small.
This engine is one of the most used engines over the past 30 years in South Africa with Isuzu dealerships. Can't go wrong. 300k miles without issues is common.
It’s always good when it’s new. That dpf system will be very costly once it goes down.
I might have a contrarian streak, but I'm not retarded. ;-)
yeah...ask a fleet mechanic about the baby duramax.....and its real fun trying to get parts with the strike plus the coof....hope u saved all that gas money...youll need it
Good afternoon Scotty I'm here just having my lunch and your notifying me of another video so I'm going to have some lunch drink some beer and watch you🙌🙌🙌🙌 BROTHER 👍🧰
That Isuzu 2.8l diesel is very popular in Asia. It directly competes with the 2.8l diesel from Toyota . Both of these engines can put a million miles without any problems. Both these engines are even used to power boats across Thailand and Indonesia.
I am sure it's a great little engine but GM has let me down so much in the last 10 years I have no faith left in there products...
They Colorado and Canyons are great trucks despite what people say... I love mine and will keep it until it dies
GM hasn't let me down because I never have and never will own one....
@@leadnsteel1428 me too!
Oh scotty you are wrong I bought a brand new one in 2018 with this little diesel motor in it and it was in the shop more than it was in my driveway they are totally junk I unloaded it just as soon as the warranty was up
My old man has one of those diesel engines. He's had it in multiple s S10s. The first one was a 1985. He's been running it steady since then.
I travel 2000-4000 miles a week. I have 200,000 miles on my 2017 Chevy Cruise Diesel, I get 50mpg at 79 miles per hour.

Impossible! Only Toyotas and the occasional Honda can do that.

Yes you right actually a " mechanic" with poor knowledge,, that wish it can be like Scotty.. but to be like this master we are so far away..
When he was talking about 35 miles per gallon I thought that was a bad thing. From a English perspective that is terrible gas mileage you should be getting at least 50 on a long run like that. Diesel is about $7 per gallon in the UK.
@@sebastianguerre6868 50 miles per gallon, or kilometers?
@@sebastianguerre6868 Don't you measure by liters and kilometers in the UK? Maybe that is the difference?

He changes his mind constantly 😂😂
I pulled a camper with my 2016 and plan on pulling one with my 21 Canyon. Never had an issue. Just tow what the truck is rated for. My camper is a 20 footer with a toy porch on the rear with an overall length of 30 feet. The only grip I have with the GM 2.8 is the fuel filter system uses a 38 dollar dual cartridge system that is based on both time and restriction. However if my 21 goes 174 K like my 16 then I will be happy.
The frame must be light weight too if it'll bend with a camper on board, likely another reason it gets 35 mpg, whole truck if likely built light.
You do seem to like the diesels over there? If the tax was not that big? 1.9 TDI indestructable.
Nah man, the 300D Turbo Diesel Mercedes takes the cake for being indestructible.
The Colorado/canyon has slowly becoming the best mid size pickup with different trims and component improvements this generation. I anticipate the next one will likely be even better than the Tacoma in all regards
The Canyon has a really low roofline and limited headroom which is a deal breaker for taller people.
I'm 6.2 and 380lbs and i'm very comfy in my Colorado. The Tacoma has less cabin room.
my friend is 6'7 and fit in the backseat no problem
I'm 6 2. Define taller.
@@joejakubec9708 I'm also 6'2" and a coworker has one. Entry is difficult because the distance between the seat and the top of the door frame is too small. My head bumps the ceiling because the truck has a sunroof. My Kia Soul has more headroom and legroom.

they were putting deisel engines in the chevys we started getting in the military around 85 86, not 4 cylinders though
we had some GM products at the power company around that time and they were V-8 converted to diesel. mixed opinions on them.
GM sold the Rayong plant in 2020, its producing the new Mazda truck. That truck “moves Thailand “ with an Isuzu badge they sold thousands a year across SEA.
How weak does a truck have to be to get bent from a camper????
