I grew up a Chevy and Dodge guy. I've never been a big fan of Ford work trucks because I enjoy getting up and moving faster than the ones like in the 90s doing Lawn Maintenanc... Yeah they might have been able to haul more but rarely did we haul more than mowers.
Now anything American Made Vehicle Wise. Scares Me. I want something that will last a lifetime and not just 100,000 miles

But GMC prices were in the mid 60’s & out the door approaching $70,000. I bought a AWD V6 Honda Ridgeline Sport 3 months ago & saved myself $24,000. I’ll get use to it. Kept previous 2 trucks for over 14 yrs each.

The best truck you can buy is one that fits your budget and that YOU like. You don’t want to be married to your truck payment. As far as quality goes. I’m a Toyota Tacoma fan and a for fan but everyone is different. UNFORTUNATELY ….. nobody (even Toyota) makes an exceptional quality vehicle in this day and age. I have had a lot of trucks , 3/4 , 1/2 and midsize. I get a new one every year. I prefer midsize because I like to use it for trail riding in the woods and the full size usually does not fit down the trails and exploring I like to do.
Bottom line , you work hard for your money and no one pays for it accept you. Don’t try to keep up with the guy next door. You’ll just be unhappy on the long run. Have a great day ✌🏻

Hey Scotty. Love your videos but cannot believe you didn't mention the Honda Ridgeline. There wasn't even a video or a picture of one. It has been the highest rated truck in its class over the years. Its competitve payload numbers and the only truck in its class to be able to lie 4 ft wide building materials flat in its bed allow it to function as a family truck and a mild work truck. It’s just nice to know that there are so many brands with so many configurations of pickups in this country. Personally I like the Toyota brand for reliability and resale value but they don’t have the really big tow haulers. Everybody can buy a truck for their individual needs. I would just recommend not buying one of the new generation model of any brand. Wait for the second or third year to give the manufacturer time to work any problems out and you’ll likely avoid the issues that come with them.

Not a fan of turbo 4s with trucks. More moving parts means more things breaking or needing maintenance and the gas mileage difference is negligible. Mpg is always a concern. But I wish you would do this same segment on engine/transmission reliability and lifespan. Having a truck that gets great gas mileage doesn't matter much if all that saved money on fuel gets dumped right back into the vehicle on repairs when 40-60k miles later the engine or tranny starts having problems or fails. Also realistic OTD pricing is very different from msrp. Wish you would do a segment on which manufacturers rake you over the coals the Most with actual average pricing Over msrp, and which manufacturers vehicles tend to be closest to MSRP. For the intended informative goal though, great segment Scotty.

Scotty, love your videos and watch all of them. Allow me to share something that really applies to this and other videos, regarding most truck manufactures changing out V8 motors for smaller turbo V6 or 4 cylinder turbo motors, Inasmuch as I love the V8s in the GM, Ford, Toyota and Chryslers trucks, I understand your view that changing to forced induction, smaller motors is a lesser motor and one with a more limited life span. I agree with you on that point. As well, as much as we like our V8s for robustness and longevity, if we don't like what the manufactures are doing this last couple years we only have ourselves to blame with the idiots we elect into office and their political appointees for agencies like the EPA and a whole host of other agencies - congress is also at fault for not legislating law that limits the latitude of executive branch agencies to set standards and rules. Truck makers are getting ridiculous pressure to raise fuel efficiency standards and they are being penalized for using V8s, introducing stupid things like cylinder deactivation and auto start-stop features. They don't do this because they like these features, they do this to meet ridiculous efficiency standards including, as of late, moving into turboed & smaller motors. Further, if we take say a Ford 5.0 in a given F-150 with a set rear axle ratio and pull an 8k lb load up a hill at 50 mph, then take a 3.5L motor, same axle ratio, load and same mph up the hill, the latter is going to get ~ about the same fuel mileage under load as the 5L motor. You can't make the same power to pull the same load with the same axle ratio without expending at least the same fuel as the V8. Forced induction via turbo or blower application just raises the displacement of a smaller motor by over pressuring the air intake and adding the fuel computed to trigger a good burn, eg, your just effectively increasing the displacement to approximately the same as the 5L motor to match the power required to haul the 8K lb load up the hill at the same speed. Of course its going to use as much fuel in doing that. As well, if I get into a 3.5L truck and drive it the same as a 5L V8 with acceleration and other typical driving habits, I am going to be leaning into that throttle a lot and getting mileage not better than the V8 it replaced..there is little appreciable fuel savings. Again, if we don't like such silliness with what these trucke makers are doing, we only have ourselves to blame and we put these idiots into office that carry out this non-sense, ie, don't blame the truck makers for this stupid stuff, they are just trying to comply with the stupid laws or agency regulatory requirements that are placed upon them.
