Why is it that singles are not allowed to purchase BTO flats at mature estates or good locations, and are only allowed to purchase those at remote areas which tend to be undesirable? There are also 2-room units at the mature estates and not only larger units. Very unfair and biased towards singles 👎

what to do? even high income singles are worth lesser than couples who earn lesser and no intention to have kids in the eyes of the govt.

As usual… One VERY important Group is missing from this conversation and that is Single Parents and their Child.

No need policy changes, more 2 room btos which singles qualify for should be built. The BTO projects have very few 2 room BTOs flats. This way you cater to the singles without affecting the supply of 3 room and larger flats that should be prioritized for families.

The whole problem with the Singapore's population is greed. They think that others have, they must have. They thought that owning a property will mean making money out of it. The whole idea of hdb flats are for the purpose of providing cheap housing for families, but a lot of Singaporeans have equate that having a flat means owning an asset and can make money out of it.

I think it’s fair for singles not to buy bigger bto units, as it’s subsized housing, and since gov is pro family, then it is a way of incentive for people with family to do so with bigger housing options.
Anw, there is nothing wrong with singles buying resale they could also get a grant in doing so. Even if they living with older parents, they could joint name to buy a bto isn’t it? Why need 2 heavily subsized flat for essentially 1 household.
For high income group of people, while the current policy strictly cap at 14k, I think it would be good if gov can relax the rules about such as if they have how many children, or they have Aging parents to support… in short, can be done, abeit more work. After all cost of living is high in sg, and if high income family(not those 30-50k a month) really needs the bto with valid and criteria. Why not? Bto is to support singaporean and family for a start.
In short I think current gov policy on hdb bto is adequate.. only EC, the price of ec has gone too high for ceiling of 16k😂. Either the ec priced too high or income ceiling has to increase.
