I am Singaporean living in the US for the last 40 years. Singapore is a great country, love my people and the food but I can’t never live there again. I am now a country gal, living far away from the crowds and my life is calm and peaceful. No family drama in the US an even during my short visit to Singapore, I see drama ready to pop up anytime. I love my family but to deal with their dramas so often is not what I am looking for in my old age. I love the mountains and the lake and I can’t get that in Singapore. In addition, I love cold weather. I have considered going back for good numerous times but I just couldn’t do it. There are regrets for sure… missing big milestones with family, my kids not knowing their grandparents..etc. if any Singaporeans considering returning to Singapore, do it before kids turned 5 years old, otherwise it is going to make your decisions harder. Pick a country, settle down and learned to be happy with your decision. There is no perfect country.
If you live in a state where you can get equal amounts of sunshine, I think it's great to stay in the US. Family drama..even the Korean peninsula, half, is not big enough, I shudder to think about Sing.
I know nothing of Singapore but all about family drama. I'm Dutch and went living in Spain sone 25 years ago. One of the reasons was to be out of that tight oppressing family nucleus. Now I visit them and I love it. I love them, I love Holland, but I can kiss the ground when I'm back in Spain😊

As a "pure breed", Singaporean, I'm really glad our country has attracted this lady to come here. We need more foreigners like her to settle down here for the right reasons and also contribute positively to the society. Most of my contacts with foreigners who had stayed here long term were mainly to "extract something" such as academic qualifications, lifestyle or simply just money from Singapore before they leave.
Great Insight, very articulate! Especially resonated with her views on identity crisis and introspection and questioning. I'm Indian but grew up overseas and often feel like I'm in limbo...
Theodora Voutsa at 88 Productions is making a documentary on "Third Culture Kids." You should check out her trailers! It might resonate with yours and my experience.
Asian Americans are unfortunately heavily stereotyped in life and work by the mainstream society in US. They are viewed as unable to talk about their feelings, more quantitative inclined, high achieving when many of us are not. 😂 Many like this articulate lady study psychology to understand the Asian American identity and struggle. As she mentioned she feels free in singapore because she is not viewed as a minority and that must felt like a tremendous sigh of relief after years of trying to fit in the US. I can certainly attest to that. As an Asian American it is not easy to land a well paying position as a mental health/marriage counselor but it is possible in Singapore, once again this smart lady made a strategic decision. Asian Americans feel less pressured in a east-west society like Singapore because for once you are no longer are restricted to a set of stereotypes/expectations - career, economic, social and political - and you no longer need to stay in your lane to avoid creating discomfort for the majority. That’s true Freedom and it contributes to your total well-being. Asian Americans who live in Singapore probably have better mental health and than those living in the US.
Thank you for sharing this! I also experienced the other side of the coin you described - while in the US, I found it very hard to relate to my own counsellors who had little experience of life outside the US, being a minority, or the immigrant life. Cultural understanding is so important to the feeling of “belonging” (a fundamental human need).

A lot of wisdom is packed in this interview. Thank you!
max , one of the best interviews to date ... Very insightful and I'm everyone will have something to pick up from this
Don't even need to go to Cambodia. If expats living in Robertson Quay were to just cross the road to Jalan Kukoh estate, they'd notice the stark difference.
She's brilliant!
Refreshing to have such an intelligent guest
Qi’s clear and thoughtful approach to her career and life showcases her impressive adaptability and growth
Wasn't expecting to watch for more than 5 mins but watched the whole video through & wanted to hear from Wise Words of Wisdom from Qi.
She's not only a genuine global citizen but one whose Curiosity & Freedom have shaped her into Who She Is today, an Eloquent, Articulated, Humble yet one with a Broad & Open-minded views about many aspects of Life.
Thank you Qi for your sharing & also Max for featuring such a Fascinating person! 👌🙂👍
I am mesmerized by this lady.. she is great! Excellent interview Max!!❤❤
I am so glad I clicked and watched! What an incredible woman she is!
She is pleasant and impressive… she definitely earns your admiration after just watching her for a couple of minutes!
I love this person.
Qi is a clear and articulate speaker. Thank you, this was an informative interview.
This was almost an hour interview but it didn't feel too long at all and that's only because you found an interesting subject. She was articulate and very pleasant to listen to and you also did well as an interviewer. Thank you to both of you and keep up the good work, Max!
Thank you for watching! I was impressed with the progression of easy to “big life questions” Max orchestrated.
I can listen to this woman for hours. She speaks so well.
Thank you @QiZhaiMcCartney, totally impressed by your thoughts and intellectual experiences. Your parents will be so proud of you.
Beautiful conversation, thank you
Asian Americans are unfortunately heavily stereotyped in life and work by the mainstream society in US.
@@RelationshipsWithQi I agree 100% and more!
