I thought the movie was pretty fair to Palin. It actually made me SYMPATHIZE with her. Palin was in over her head, and the movie showed that accurately. Frankly, she was not ready to lead. But the movie also showed her as a devoted mother and wife. Furthermore, Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace (who were part of the McCain/Palin campaign and were portrayed by Woody Harrelson and Sarah Paulsen) both said the movie was accurate.

I just finished watching the movie, and as someone who has always harshly criticized Sarah Palin I felt the the movie portrayed her as a real human being. She should have never been put in that position. But the movie also portrayed her as resilient and hard-working. Which she has proven to be. Doesn't change my fundamental opinion that she represents the dumbing-down of political discourse in the worst possible way. Ed Harris' portrayal of John McCain was respectful and a pleasure to watch.
As a screenwriter myself I think it's important to remember that when a move says "based on a true story," that doesn't mean that everything in the movie is the absolute truth. Film makers routinely take dramatic license to give the story a little pop and color. However if the disclaimer says that the "story is true" then they are obligated by law to make sure that everything can be backed up by facts and they are not allowed to take dramatic license with the story. Movie watchers should understand the difference between the two disclaimers.
All throughout the 2008 campaign when people tried to describe what Palin meant when she was babbling, they would always say "...you can't make crazy stuff like this up..." Well, they made a movie about poor little Sarah and guess what? They didn't have to make a single word up. They just repeated all the crazy stuff she said. End of story.
Now that, sadly, Sen. John McCain is gone from our midst I see Ed Harris as _really_ capturing the essence of the man and the resemblance is more startling now than in 2012 when Game Change premiered.
A lot of what we see in the movie we saw in real life. Steve what's his name and the other staff members say it is accurate. It shows how easily sarah lies and we heard the lies in real life. My eyes and ears don't lie ... sarah certainly does.
