My mom got a 2004 Honda Pilot when it was new and my older brother and I grew up with it... a few years ago she gave it to my brother who has recently passed it on to me. She still runs great despite being even older than me lol
Looking forward to this series. I subscribed to you because we both have the '99 Acura 3.5RL, so that Pilot's seat heater switches looked very familiar.
I bought my 05 Pilot in 2019 with 133k miles for $4500, thinking it was a great deal. I didn't know it was in really bad shape (the transmission was failing and I didn't know it because I didn't know how to truly check out cars before buying and I'd never seen a transmission problem before, and so 2 months to the day after I bought it the transmission shit the bed - while driving, fun!), and it's just gone downhill from there. The new transmission started failing right at the end of the 3-yr warranty but the garage who did the work wouldn't stand by it, I've had a flashing CEL for 6 months now that 3 diff mechanics either couldn't figure out how (or refused, on the basis that it would cost more than just buying another used car) to resolve even when the CEL was merely lit for a year before that, it gets 8mpg, occasionally does this thing where it will randomly buck like a bull machine regardless of what speed I am going (and I never go above 45-50 anymore after it started doing that last May while I was going 85, that was terrifying) has had a coolant leak, has some sort of issue where most left turns produce a horrible clang-thunk from the back left tire, and if I leave it running in park for more than 15 seconds you can smell the gas fumes inside and out bc the exhaust leak is so bad. The car sounds like a lawn mower or something, lol. I don't have any money for another car so I've just been riding this nightmare out for as long as it stays in one piece, or until it bursts into flames. I wish I'd had videos like this to watch before I bought my car, but now I am going to make sure I'm prepared for my next car (hoping for either a 4runner, or another Pilot, but one of the better ones like an 08 or 10). My biggest hurdle will be finding something that isn't already rusted beyond hope from these New England winters, I might have to learn how to shop long distance in a more Southern region 🤞🤞 Sorry for that run-on sentence
Yes, cars with age and miles on them can be money pits; it's sometimes hard to know how prior owners treated them. The Pilot I purchased had more issues than I expected, but they made for good content 😀. I'd consider having a prospective next car inspected by a local shop.
I just bought an 03 Pilot two weeks ago. 127k miles on it. All the major stuff...timing belt, transmission, etc...had already been done recently. My mechanic checked it from stem to stern. The interior looks like a new car. That was a plus! I've never owned a Honda nor an SUV before, so I'm loving it. Mine is also black. So here's a question for you: What do you recommend for polishing it? Thanks.
Nice! Sounds like you got a good car. I've owned mostly Hondas all my adult life. I love their practicality and reliability. Hopefully, I'll post some videos of the interior and exterior detail at some point (I have a ton of footage to review). I used mostly Griot's Garage products to polish the exterior: G9 polisher, Boss polishes, and pads. Their ceramic all-in-one wax is very good. I found that their products don't dry to a chalk like some other products I've used, which is great for not creating swirls on black paint. There are lots of really good options from which to choose nowadays, though.
You got yourself a new subscriber looking forward on watching your videos. Got the same one for 4,500. The one I got the A/C works but for the back A/C I don’t know how to turn it on.
I keep finding issues, which I guess is great for content. Fortunately, the issues I've found require more time than money to address. Thanks for checking out the videos!
I have a 2004 with 284k on it. Just done the timing belt and tensioner/water pump & fluids done. Is in great shape for a good few more miles. Such a great car.
I'm seeing this weird oil leak throughout my transmission and possibly in the oil pan - at the front of the vehicle and I dont know what it could be and I don't know how to diagnose it either. I'm really hoping it's not an issue with transmission. Timing belt + water pump, power steering pump + flush and transmission fluid change, and front struts all replaced.
Is the leaking fluid brown or red? One way to track down the source is to clean the area then add UV dye to the transmission fluid or engine oil; most auto parts stores carry it.
This should be a fun project. Hopefully, you'll follow along as I refresh this 2004 Honda Pilot.

Yes, they're very sturdy cars for 20 years old.
Just got mine too!!!! 🎉
My paretns got 400k miles out of their 2006 honda pilot !!! And when they got rid of it, car was still running strong 💪💪💪💪
Just bought 2004 Honda Pilot on Saturday. Hoping I have good luck with it!

Have the same car with 160,000 miles. Just did a timing belt and water pump. Also resealed the oil pump. Great car
This one has quite a few small issues. Overall, it's a very good car.
I'm going to look at one of these on Monday

Yes, working on the Pilot has felt very familiar so far. I may have more RL videos soon, too. Thanks for checking out the videos!

Hello I'm thinking of getting one with 120k miles would you recommend flush or drain and fill for the trans
I have an 04 as well.
Nice car. Try doing a tutorial on its Automatic shifting

Hopefully that pilot treats u well, big thanks for your videos

Thank you, I will try that! Appreciate the response@@carapprentice
@@princeahlawy1450 Hope you're able to find the issue.
nice video.question can u do a video on the rl about flushing power steering fluid? mine is black and bubbling in the reservoir
My RL has a power steering leak, so it's on my list. Not sure when I can get to it, though.
Just purchased a 04 pilot
Good job bro
Thanks!
Do you still have yours im thinking of getting one with 120,000 miles on it would you recommend i flush or drain and refill trans fluid
Yes, I still have my Pilot. I would drain and fill it. Flushing is usually not recommended.
Nice car. Try doing a tutorial on its Automatic shifting
