The honda pilots from 2003-2005 were All All-wheel drive. You can see the VTM-4 Lock button around the 4:30 mark between the steering wheel and the radio. That locked it into 4wd. In 1st, 2nd, and reverse. It would automatically disengage above a certain speed and is only to be used if stuck. Later models 4wd was an option, but when it debuted it was standard. The primary differences between the MDX and the Pilot at this time were styling, ride comfort, and luxurious finishes inside. The MDX did however share the problem-prone Accord and Odyssey transmission of the time, and the Pilot had a separate unit.

I watched Scotty Kilmer's videos on the Honda Pilot since I've been looking at them, he said he has a customer that puts the seats down and travels in it and sleeps in it and even has a mini fridge plugged in. Hmm..now that I think of it.. might be the Highlander.
The current Honda pilots still use the 3.5 V6 engine Chad! They are smooth powerful motors. The fact they have a timing belt and are interference engines can worry me. That is true with the transmission problems. You have to check if it has had a replacement.

I just test drove an '04 Pilot with 205k miles on it. I'm currently driving a '95 Grand Cherokee V8. You typically speak louder in my Jeep, but oh my god my dad and I could whisper to each other in the Pilot. I'm buying it tomorrow lol. Barely heard it start up..super quiet inside.

All first gen honda pilots were awd they made it a option in the second gen
