I was being a little facetious to illustrate my point. Indeed he has had a few shinning moments with 8 career wins including a major, plus 16 wins on the European tour. But when you think about what his and the public’s expectations were when he had the great duel with Tiger in the PGA Championship in ‘99 his career has been a bit of a disappointment. He was supposed to be a real challenge to Tiger. But Tiger has ten times as many tour wins and nearly triple his European tour wins. Yes Sergio has been able to make a good living with a golf club in his hands but he is generally not well liked because of his constant sniveling about Tiger and his frequent displays of poor sportsmanship as illustrated in this posting.
I used to root for this guy when I was a kid. Now that I've been playing golf for 20ish years, no sympathy or forgiveness coming his way for acting like this. Just imagine spitting in cups, tearing up bunkers, and throwing clubs on the PGA tour and now imagine what he does with no cameras. Scary thought.

I was a PGA club pro in my twenties, but in order to become one you need to pass a Performance Aptitude Test which involves playing 2 rounds in one day and beating a particular score. I practiced so hard for it, and took it so seriously, I found myself throwing clubs like this. Then one day I just decided to never let bad shots get me angry again, and my scores dropped overnight. I wound up passing the test on my first try
You just need to take a split second to tell yourself to relax, and that a bad golf shot is totally insignificant in the grand scheme of things. The game is a lot more fun too.
This a classic anger management problem. He's like this when he knows he's on TV I don't want to see him when he gets mad in private. Go see a psychiatrist. It will make your golf, and life, better.

I was once at that point at age 17 and broke my sandwedge in half. From that moment on I thought to myself "dude, you play that game for fun and a little bit of a challenge to yourself. Don't get angry, your life doesn't depend on it, it's just for fun." Never ever played a round with anger again.
I did similar. Was getting really upset with myself & embarrassing everyone around me. I walked off at the 14th & afterwards I decieed not to play for a few weeks. Came back & apologised to everyone that witnessed it that day & promised myself I wouldn't get upset like that again.

I was playing golf in Castellón Spain, at his home club. His father was the pro there and I think he bought it. It’s nothing special, anyone can play there but at breakfast in the morning, he came over to our table to say hello. He knew the local guy were playing with. Yeah I have zero need to brag, this is my only brush with a celebrity. So when I tell you he was a really nice guy who then again said hello and asked me about my round later, I promise you that he’s not the villain you’d think he was. We all know folks with anger and composure problems so I say give him a break, he’s clearly working with a trait you’re either born with or not. I give him the benefit of the doubt that all humans are entitled to. Unless he is unkind to widows and orphans, who are we to judge.

The one and only professional golf game I went to was a Skins game in Palm Springs and Sergio Garcia hit the ball into the crowd and nailed me of all people. I commented a year ago, I will say more. He played at a Spanish local course as a junior, national team event, and there was only one guy in the team who could stand his attitude, plus the image he left behind is still remembered today on some of those courses, an overprotective father and a clearly spoiled attitude. I'd love to be able to say otherwise.

About 10 +/- years ago at the Wyndham tournament in Greensboro, I witnessed Sergio urinate behind a tree in someone's backyard. There was an on-course bathroom that was equidistant from the tee box where he was waiting on the group ahead of him.Instead of the nearby bath house, Sergio decided to go in someone's backyard and pee behind a tree. No class and unprofessional. He is a jerk.
Dude has been a bit spoiled. He has a ton of passion... And anger. Lol. He was gracious enough to sign for my kids during the 2017 US Open. I've got a soft spot for him. I am a fan.
Yes he‘s the greatest... the greatest jerk. He should be an example for our youth. In fact, if someone can‘t behave In our club we call him a Sergio or „don‘t play a Sergio“. If he can‘t control himself he should choose another sport like crochet or sewing.
