Nailgod Sly is Kind of Crazy...

- Defeating Nailgod Sly by Nearrin, a mod designed to make Sly slightly more challenging. Not only is Sly a god of business and the nail but is also a god of guns (guess we know what he spent that mountain of geo on).
This one is really fun as the main phase is watching what's coming next and countering and once it starts to click it becomes a lot of fun. The special attack phases are much more challenging as I still don't have the parry timing down and dodging the laser and explosions is a bit harder when you have to account for the frozen nails.
Ascended should be very doable although the length of the fight and the ease with missing a parry makes me less sure that I'd try radiant anytime soon.

I swear that this boss looks harder than Absolute Radiance, I couldn’t beat it myself.
This was definitely a challenge figuring out how to counter X move. The biggest problem is I have a tendency to pogo bosses and staying airborne makes you vulnerable to some attacks. I'm still not confident in my parrying for the nail barrage to do this radiant.

I usually prefer to not use spells with modded bosses and try to learn it nail only. This one is definitely built around parrying making it more fun to try and parry (even if I fail quite a bit!).
And Sly responds with the 2nd amendment

For as interesting and unique as this fight was, i definitely believe that it lasted a bit too long, and could've maybe benefited from splitting the fight into clearer phases rather than just spamming attacks, doing a unique attack at X hp, and then doing more of the same attack spam.
That's understandable. I did expect a final phase on the third stagger but was surprised it kept the basic phase.
I want to see "Glock Saint Isshin" vs "Nailgod Sly". It will be the battle of the century
very happy to see this one is actually somewhat fair and doesn't just take the approach of "two masks of damage (or more) every time you're hit by literally anything" that some other mods do, cause anyone who knows even a bit of modding can just give a husk a bunch of health with insta kill capabilities and call it a boss

This is easily the most diverse and realistic boss ive seen. Many of these rely on adding spikes, saws, or lasers that dont come from the boss. I enjoyed that Sly did most of the work with the help from some guns they fired.

Good question. It's definitely doable hitless and with practice the main phases are the easy part. It's those special phases that are a pain.

I don't, but there's folks who do lore videos like Mossbag or CCmaci or others that probably have made theories about it. I tend to be less serious with lore, especially pointing out how Myla gave Quirrel concrete shoes and pushed him into Blue Lake.

1:06 Those are pretty parries! Better strat than mine: I parry the bullets, jump, dash towards him and pogo, so I only get one or at best two hits in countering that. This also might be the only boss where enabling ParryKnight mod could actually be an advantage :-) Edit: that is IF ParryKnight mod also rewards successful parries that otherwise would not cause damage!
As long as you aren't in a corner parrying a bullet and dashing away works pretty well for a few extra hits. I initially tried dashing to Sly and pogoing him while he'd shoot the bullets but found it too inconsistent to react quickly enough. The descending cyclone slash is also great for hits but when I first tried this my tendency to stay airborne kept getting me hit by it.
@@CrankyTemplar Yes, when he shoots and you're in a corner, then a d-dark & jump might be the safest way out. I saw in Nearrin's Nailgod release video that he or she also jumps and dashes, but parries the bullets while jumping. I tried that too, but just can't pull that off! Nail Arts is a cool idea :-) But I feel more vulnerable with that since with a charged nail I'm not instantly pogo-ready, which I actually always want to be.
Apologies, I tried my d-dark & jump idea and that's even worse than parry & jump 😅

Not at all, especially as I don't play/upload on Hollow Knight as much as I used to. There's a number of folks that really enjoy these mods.
this fight is insanely good, the one problem i have with it is that some of the things sly does, they dont even make sense with his character. like for example, why does he have a gun? we dont even know if guns exist in the hollow knight verse, and also, why can he shade dash?

Yes, you can just dash out of range (or jump and dash if you don't have enough range to clear it). Parrying just offers more damage opportunities.
