The leads are the reason continuity response it lower on the Astro AI meter. Clean and polish them with a metal polish and you will see significant improvement in response.

I wonder what the Astro looks like on the inside. For the price I wonder how good the protection is, i. e. MOVs, fuses and such. For mainly lower voltages and current , trouble shooting probably ok for convenience, but i'd always go with a Fluke.

I've had several 100 dollar mutlimeter testers x-rayed, including a Fluke 107. The Fluke 107 has a very simple board with sparse components compared with the other DMMs. Other DMMs have much more components and in a much more dense package. It could be the simple board for the Fluke 107 gives it durability and safety, but I was pleasantly surprised with the other DMMs for having much more components for the same price while offering pretty good quality. Technology and manufacturing has improved so much over the decades, great time to be a tech in any field.

Working on beds, adjusting potentiometers for the drive system, the ASTRO would be great when the room work area isn't very lit up. Love it

    Just some opinions/thoughts:
    1) The Fluke 107 will probably have better battery life...that assumption is made based on the display alone.
    2) I would not trust any DMM on mains voltage without some heavy analysis by the eevblog crew...it's good to have people way smarter than myself pointing out possible issues.
    3) I'd like to see if they are using a proper HRC fuse(s) inside the cheap meter
    4) The Aneng AN8008 seems to be a good cheap and lightweight meter...but I don't recall if it was recommended for mains voltage.
    5) The lead detection on the AstroAI seems nice...that used to be a feature you had to pay to Fluke for a simple safety feature. You get a loud warning in your in voltage mode but have your probes in the current port(s)?
That said...I own a Fluke 107, Aneng AN8008, and two Fluke 87V. I use the cheapos as secondary meters usually...like putting them in circuit to monitor current. However, I will ALWAYS lug my 87V around because it is the safest and most accurate meter I have...I don't want to second guess my tools. There aren't too many meters out there that can compete with the 87Vs high voltage diode tests and the response time in continuity mode.

Have you considered how many relatively inexpensively built electronics items from China that you trust plugging into mains voltages around the home? Some running for a long time like phone chargers, T.V.s, WiFi routers, etc. Yet you don't trust a relatively inexpensively built meter from China for momentary testing of mains voltages taking just a second or two.

@@Handlebar-MustDash That may be a good point, but the only electronics I've ever had nearly take off my hand (twice) were cheap overseas multimeters. One nearly took out my eye. They are getting better, however.
I've seen quite a few teardowns of other electronics, and usually it's only the super-cheap fleabay specials that appear concerning. The issues usually show up in the SMPS itself with poor insulation between the primary/secondary coils of the transformer, fake X2 capacitors, and poor isolation between the primary/secondary sides of the board. Usually once you get past the SMPS it isn't usually that scary unless thay failed to fuse their product.

Try wiping the leads tip with rubbing alcohol and see if that'll help with continuity, usually there's some coating on the tips that hinders it

Thanks for covering the pros and cons of these two non-expensive, small form factor multimeters. More times than not, throwing money at something isn’t necessary. Your very generous! And always, great content!

Fluke beep is faster I think and especially for small electronics this will slow you down and might even make you do a mistake a sometimes.

i am using a smartphone stand for this exact multimeter. initially got the stand(got few to try) on Aliexpress since it was cheaper than on ebay or Amazon, and been using it on my Fold and then Fold2 smartphones. after my old Fluke kicked the bucket i went off my buddys(plus always wanted color screen) recomendation and got this exact AstroAI model(since its top of the line from them). Noticed missing kickstand right away and decided to try that Ali kickstand(since i always buy multiples(3 in this case) of things like that even if only need 1- somehow always end up needing more(should have gotten 4)). It worked great(make sure to glue it to the exact weight center of MM) and can put MM into any configuration or even hang it off the hook or a magnet. just make sure to get the 3 section (beefy) one since 2 section(aka the ring) is not big enough but 3 section is just perfect(can even put this MM onto wet or dirty surface since only stand touches the floor keeping MM clean and dry). there are different kinds but one i chose is basically 3 oxygons with hinges in between

Hello better biomed that is a very nice multi meter That kind of meter are very useful in every single day of repairing medical equipment i hoping 🙏🙏🙏🙏 to win a multi meter,my old multi meter that i using almost 12 years its broken right and give me a Error reading.Thank you better biomed always god bless you and your TH-cam channel

that 107 magnetic stand is very cool/different for sure, and the screen is larger and readable (although i too prefer your Astro reverse neg screen). i use an older Speco DMR-3800 which is smaller, fairly good & still works like a champ even all these years later. hope that someone deserving wins this very generous giveaway, best of luck to all ! thanks for the opportunity BBC !
