      In retrospect, it only makes Anakin’s killing of the Tusken’s and Darth Vader’s attack on them in the canon comics that much more tragic. Had he not been so consumed with rage and hate, he could have likely seen that he wasn’t just killing “animals” or “vicious, mindless monsters”....but families. Sure he mentions how he killed women and children, but this episode allows us to actually see that these are indeed people, flawed but not without merits and a capacity for honor. Something Anakin and we the audience never really got to see, which makes the massacre’s full weight be somewhat lost on both him and the audience, as previous portrayals of Tusken’s show them as being hostile savages that are almost constantly attacking someone.

      I always love when movies give a more detailed perspective on seemingly primitive or evil factions or characters. From the perspective of the original trilogie and the prequels, the Tuskens were nothing more than brutal seemingly reasonless killing monsters, but by introducing stuff like in the Mandalorian, you show the audience that even those who seeem purly evil are often also just victims of their circumstances and environment and just act like this to protect themselves, their beliefs and environment.

    • @soundwavesuperior28
      @soundwavesuperior28 4 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      There is a direct correlation between the two. If these “desperate survivors” resort to savagery in an attempt to survive, then they are eligible considered savages by a civilized society.
      The Tusken Raiders mercilessly and ruthlessly tortured Anakin’s mother, tied her up, let her bleed out, only keeping her alive long enough to tell her own son she loved him.
      “They were not prone to violence”
      Although not every Tusken Raider tribe is the same, I’m sure, these raiders willingly fired on podracers who had done nothing, seemingly for sport. On top of that, there’s no implication that the Tusken raiders consume human flesh, or that they were cannibals (humans were allegedly part of the Tusken raiders, though in small numbers), we can infer that they attacked Luke with the intent of torturing him like Shmi - or worse, killing him for sport.
      Just because the Tusken Raiders had a culture or a basic grasp of warfare doesn’t mean that Anakin was wrong when he referred to them as “animals”. These creatures lurking in the taverns, ravens, and sandy dunes of Tatooine are by no means, civilized. They are in fact savages that display clear signs of savage behavior. Who cares if they show signs of being ‘nice’? That is only one side of their multidimensional “society”. As matter of fact it’s barely even a side - it’s a fraction, at best.

      Close, but not quite. I am part American Indian (what most call Native American), and my Ancestors were Half of the Picture. The Severe and ingrained form of the Bedouins' Ancient and sometimes Draconian "Blood Vengeance" (they are Much better about it nowadays) is the inspiration for the OT's Tusken Behavior; the Iroquois Confederacy (my Ancestors) and other American Tribes/Civilizations are more cautious, and due to the necessity of forgiving for the sake of the Larger Civilization. This is something that the Bedouin Tribes did not need until the last thousand or so years due to their nomadic and Singularist tribal nature. The American Tribes (even the Central and South American ones) have had many Civilizations rise and fall over the last 20,000+ years, which necessitated Diplomacy and (a sometimes Grudging) Forgiveness, but the Bedouin peoples only gained this over the last thousand years due to their being the sole occupiers of their Native Territory. Different Locations result in different Circumstances. Please understand that I am not judging the Ancestry of the Bedouins; I do however judge my own Ancestors for some of their disgusting practices (such as ritual Cannibalism), which the Bedouins seem to have not developed due to a harsher set of Living Circumstances.

    Well... They may have their reason, but I'm gonna be honest here: There's no justifications for abducting defenseless individuals and torturing them to death. Like, if Shmii Skywalker was just killed in a raid, either because she participated in combat or as a colateral casualty that would be one thing, but once you torture people just for cruelty's sake, you are crossing a line. That's not to say that the settlers were more in the right than the tuskens, but it's enough to make them kind of difficult to redeem.
