- This week we change gears a bit, and we are going to show you a new tool that is available to some of our SOF operators. It’s pretty straight forward in the video. This is a Tire Deflator that attaches to the standard flash hider of the M16/M4 family of rifles. It allows operators to silently deflate tires on target without having to use a knife. If you run across a vehicle with self-sealing tires, you can use one of the collars, that is designed to remain in the tire (after stabbing) to hold the hole open. A operator could carry dozens of these collars and quickly reset them in seconds.
The cool part is you can still shoot the rifle. It is a very fun tool. It has very minimal applications, but is still fun to play with. Please note that it only fit the standard birdcage flash hider, and would not fit on any of my AAC brakes or other brands. That said, if a military unit ran a specific style of brake, this deflator could be reverse engineered to fit that muzzle brake or flash hider.

Remember how bayonets start like a weird knife you can plug in the barrel of your flintlock? Well, they say fashion allways return.
Flintlocks did not have bayonets , youre thinking of a musket , a flintlock was a small muzzle loading pistol , wich was inadiquate in size to effectively use a bayonet, it also did not include any sort of system that would allow a bayonet to be fitted.

Maybe if you were punching holes in moped tires, still very unlikely with that very steep angle, you couldn't cut a round plug out of an automotive tire with a hollow punch and a 8lb hammer without it somehow staying on the tire... maybe if you used a drill with a sharp hole saw you could remove a plug then stick it in the flash hider z🤔😄
Got to use one of these pieces of crap downrange, they were trash. Absolutely hated them. And for $200 for one of these, I could buy 200 valve stem tools and give them out to everyone including a couple bad guys, that’d do the same thing without being a one time use or 1/2 pound a piece.
@Vigilant Response Tactical yeah, I see your point, but I also see the advantage of not spending 30 seconds on each tire to remove the valve stem. Seems like a good idea with maybe poor execution. I mean, with all the rail space most rifles have these days, why not make a puncture device that's rail mounted rather than over the end of the barrel? It could even fold back and lock out of the way. That way, you wouldn't have to take the time to remove it before you're clearing buildings all stacked up with your buddies. It's one thing to flag your buddy’s leg as you're getting into position, it's a whole other thing to hamstring him with the sharp ass thing sticking another 6" off the end of your gun. One is a "oh, shit... sorry bro." And the other is a "OH Fuck!! Let me get a tourniquet on that!!"

It looks like he may have been overcompensating for the bayonet. The angled part of the bayonet was on the top side which means the pressure coming out of the barrel would have been pushing the gun upwards. He tried to pull it down to keep it level and overcompensated. It would take some getting used to.
big jim if you look closely, it looks like the bayonet itself has holes in the top of it. It looked to me like they were acting to overcompensate and push the rifle downward. Perhaps a design flaw to be fixed by having more of the gasses eject to the sides rather than just straight up.
Maybe it is meant to have a crush washer behind it, so if he had mounted it properly it would also function as a muzzle break.
Self-sealing tires and run flats are two separate things. If you stick this in a run flat it'll still be able to give chase because, as the name suggests, they can run with no air pressure. Not to mention it would be significantly harder to pierce a run flat tire's sidewall, they are much stiffer than standard tires, this is what makes them capable of running flat.
I have one of these, and yes, the recoil is different, but not as much as people may think. If you have the newer "birdcage" muzzle device that does not have openings on the bottom (prevent dirt from flying up), you still have that style of opening on this attachment. The portion that connect to the muzzle is also open on top (unless you tighten it down in some other orientation......not smart), then the needle like attachment has additional holes on the sides and slanted top, which does force some more gas out the top.
Accuracy wise, I have experienced no realistic change, as the barrel is still the same length, and the device aligns with the barrel......but still vents gas off the same points, and then some more. However, I have never checked past 100 yards for accuracy.
As for comparing between this and a bayonet, this is directly inline with the barrel.....a straight line. A bayonet is under the barrel, introducing some torque, and a wide thin blade. This device is like a giant hardened metal hypodermic needle for taking out car tires or anything else you may need to pike through. It acts more like an extension of the barrel, because it is directly inline with the barrel.
Not for everyone's use case, and did not sell well, I bought mine on sale. But, may have its place.

self sealing tires have the sealing compound on the inside where the tread is, not in the sidewall. run flat tires work with zero air pressure.

I think it was pretty obvious that the shoot thru bayonet had a major effect on the muzzle recoil.....you could see how it was orientated in the rifle barrel that it was causing the muzzle to deflect in a downward direction....i don't see the shoot thru bayonet as being significantly better than the standard bayonet in any kind of a way that would justify the cost. If you wanna take out tires without firing shots...just pass around a couple of valves stem core removal tools....i think they cost about 99 cents and you can carry it in your pocket.

It looks like it changed the muzzle climb completely, I can imagine that would take some getting used to
it looks like 75% of the muzzle break is being covered therefore causing the gas to escape from the top which means your barrel will go down after every shot
That seems like a benefit for full auto in my opinion.

if you can't find the valve stem you're an idiot.
If you shoot your gun til hot, then run the barrel/bayonet into a hard surface and it bends. Now you have a hot, sharp object obstructing your barrel. Your rifle is out of the fight until you can get it off.
Just picked one of these up at a local store, couldn't believe I actually saw one. Nobody knew what it was but I remember the video from a while back so I had to revisit it. Pretty cool little accessories. If only I had a way to try it out without catching a felony 😂
Ironically this might be better as an alternative bayonet on free floated rifle barrels, because it's threaded on and doesn't require a lug it gives you a nice cruciform style bayonet
Tire stabbing advice. Stab the side wall with the blade vertical or horizontal when stabbing the sides. I've never met a tire that has defeated me

I feel like this could be done more simply, especially without being shoot through. Maybe just an alternative bayonet attachment. Essentially a stubby spike bayonet. Could still use the cool collar attachments, it'd be faster to attach to the gun than to screw on the shoot through, you wouldn't have potential barrel obstruction, and it'd probably be simpler and cheaper to produce.
I agree 100% and have given this some thought. However, I don't have the time or resources to draw one up. If any of our viewers throw one together, I'll gladly preview it and get it in the hands of our SOF guys. TR.
bayonets will not attach to all AR15 styled rifles. it requires a certain amount of barrel between the lug and the flash hider. The SBR in the video would be one of those rifles that could not even mount a bayonet if he wanted to.
Wouldn't be too hard to have a closer mounting ring or a sleeve.

Most "run flats" actually utilize what is essentially a big polymer ring that mounts around the hoop of the rim/wheel along with having heavily reinforced sidewalls & are not "self-sealing".
Sounds like a super technical solution to a really simple problem. It's a spike bayonet, just use the lugs the gun was designed with instead of fucking with the shooty tube.

Giving the radiator a couple of pokes, would probably be more effective. With some run-flats available on the market today, the bad-guys might still be able to give chase for 20-30 km . With a seized up engine their vehicles can't move. For extra insurance, do both.

self-sealing tires work at the tread area not the sidewall. run-flat tires rely on either solid rubber inserts and that when a tire is inflated you still have the pneumatic the smoothness of ride but when the tire goes flat hence is purposely flattened, it'll drop a centimeter or two on to a solid rubber insert that will still be available as a rolling surface even after the tires shredded it'll just be a very rough ride. most often do commercial run-flat tires rely on sidewall stiffness as most likely the offense is in the tread pattern to get you about 50 miles so yes damaging the sidewall with this tool May render run-flat tires useless after a few miles due to shredding due to sidewall weakening.
We used a pair of electricians cable cutter and clipped off the valve stems. Worked every time and no swinging of the rifle was necessary. I don't know how specific brands of run-flats work, but I imagine the valve stem is a weak point for those as well since air needs to go in them somehow.

Run flat tires do it by having sidewalls so thick that the tire doesn't collapse when there is no air inside. Thus you can still drive. A collar won't stop that.

Now imagine using one for normal bayonet things though. You can't cut with it, and if you use it against a soft target you're getting blood down your barrel. Probably wouldn't completely ruin your day but it's something to think about. And bayonets ARE still useful in modern combat scenarios.

Karl I love your show : I allways thought of engineering a blade shaped like a short Dirk / Boot knife that can be attached and actually left ON the muzzle area. This small simple device should actually be short and light weight as well as Easy to attach and detach. Something that you can attach to the muzzle area , actually leave in place then be able to swivel in place ? Maybe like a 3 inch / 7 cm length double edged...?
Not only does it seem like a bad idea but militaries all over the planet are using honeycomb structured airless tires that roll while punctured, so unless you are trying to stab your neighbor's tires so you get to bingo before he does, it's just a novelty. At least advertise it as a bayonet you could possibly stab a person with if you get close enough.
Watching this video again, two issues: the user is using it with the unit upside down (might compensate for recoil for this user/carbine, recoil up muzzle brake and then down at end of point?)....Google Fab Defense tire deflator for sample pic for recommended orientation (I run mine this way and muzzle brake and point gas pushed barrel down well). And note, unit only comes with one collar, you have to buy more separately (or just punch the tire a few tires to deflate faster). Great video for showing how this device is used btw.
If I was a long distancd lorry driver, I'd be very worried knowing these are out there. Gun rack on the dash with shoot-through bayonets on every device, including the shotguns and tripod mounted maxim. Welcome to Texas. This vehicle is alarmed.

If they have rubber valve stems, simple pair of wire cutters will do. but that tool would be better overall, especially against truck tires and protected valve stem rims.

this tool is a speciality tool that may only be practical for soc/marsoc type missions but realistically for any other unit its impractical, extra weight, affects weapon performance, and requires time to pre assemble onto weapon, might as well just bring a bayonet instead
Actually that should be the standard issue bayonet! That’s would be great for mount operations.
When you are just a doorstep from the enemy. Having the bayonet attached to the rifle makes sense.
Plus, talk about weight savings. That spike bayonet would weight a mere ounces as opposed to pounds with the current issue bayonet

Might be a newbie question, and might not even be in your forte, but what about conceal and carry holsters? Suggestions? What to look for what? What not to look for?
Also, probably a very basic question, but what about breathing when shooting a rifle? You mentioned how to do this for sharpshooters and snipers, but what about in different combat scenarios when you don't have time to control your heart rate for precision shooting? Say you're running a drill or shooting in short to medium distances.

The attachment for it..."Plug" can be used as a "Blood-Grove" as well? (hole that can't be closed, bat-winged of course) good luck pulling it out. I would weld a blade to it, a little goes a long way (not to exceed lenght or interfere with plug)...The "slash and burn" (slash/stick/fire). I love the possibilities here :) If the Geneva Convention does'nt approve of "Hollow-point rounds"...Their gonna love this! I want one. Need some milling for the flash suppressor though.

Normal run flat tires don't seal. They are hard/stiff so you can run drive on them flat. I drove home once on a tire with a 1.5" v shaped gouge in my side wall and zero air pressure.
We were referring to the large tires on military vehicles that have the self-sealing liners and re-inflate, on the fly, via the same air system that runs the air brakes. The collars hold open the hole and allow air to rapidly escape at a rate that the on-board air system of the vehicle can't keep up with. Again, this tool is for military applications.
I just searched up this idea as a less-lethal solution to troublemakers who think they can walk up close because you won't really shoot them. I'd just weld the tube onto the end of the flash hider though so it serves both purposes.
a regular bayonet would work for that as well.
@@vaclavjebavy5118 Yes but not every AR is amenable to bayonets. I have an AR10 that I couldn't find a bayonet mount for, so I went ahead and made something like this for it, from a 4" tube welded onto the flash hider. I would actually prefer a regular bayonet but it works.

I can just imagine someone using this on a soft target and having your barrel corked shut by a Fleshy meat plug in your barrel... the plug to drain wheels is actually really cool

Noise in military perspectives is if the bad guy's support is able to hear you and notify others in their network. In other words, a gunshot may be significant noise, but footsteps, grunts, and audible commands are not as big of a deal. A big reason why suppressors don't silence, but still "work". Rarely will you have situations where guys are ducking behind cover passing bad guys a feet away from them. For one, it is unpredictable if you can keep up that low level of exposure, and it tends to be extremely slow work. Generally if you have to be that quiet you will make a hide in that area a day or so before they arrive and do your business when they come to you, not the other way around.
