Something thats always helped me reconcile the difference between the musical and the book comes from Gregory Maguire himself. The team was so nervous at his reaction to the musical because they had changed his story and he basically said I took what L. Frank Baum did and made it my own, you took what I did and made it your own. All the stories really stand on their own.
I cannot freaking wait!!! The movie looks gorgeous!!! Wicked is my favorite Broadway musical!! I was lucky enough to see it with the original cast in the roles, so you can imagine how excited I was for this especially when Ari got cast as Glinda!!! I've never been a big fan of Ari's pop style, I'm a fan for her Broadway background, so this makes me incredibly happy!!! She's definitely leaning into her Broadway theater as I knew she would!!! Ari and Cynthia's harmony in this trailer left me speechless!! I'm so so ready!!!
I saw it on broadway years ago and am one of the few people of the planet that didn’t care for it but this trailer made me cry and it’s become one of my most anticipated films of the year.
I got to see wicked when I was 15 years old with my Nana. In San Francisco it was the last musical. I got to see her before I moved, This musical is So important to me. My only wishes my Nana was here to see the movie with me. I know she wouldn't have loved it. I can't wait for this
Your reaction was so wholesome! I agree this will definitely be one of the biggest films of the year. It might even get Oscar noms for best costumes and set design, because visually it’s absolutely stunning. So excited to watch this. I have such fond memories of seeing the Wicked musical for the 1st time ❤
A little different, but in a good way. Hoping to enjoy Ariana more than I have expected up until seeing this trailer. Like, no question she can handle the songs better than almost anyone but I just need her acting to hold up next to it.
At 4:14, I agree with everything you said here. I just wish they'd change the name of the film. Because this has literally 100% NOTHING, to do with the Wizard of OZ. This is the kind of story that a villain tells to someone who's gullible enough, to be gaslit into thinking that they're the victim. And to be clear, SHE IS A VICTIM. But it's because her sister fed her a poisonous apple that causes her heart to shrivel up and die. She doesn't turn green, until she turns completely pure evil. Honestly, I'd rather they had just made a sequel to "Oz the Great and Powerful". Because after seeing that film, after reading all FOURTEEN BOOKS OF FRANK L. BAUM'S ORIGINAL WORKS, this is just a piece of woke, girl boss level trash. Glinda actually helps Dorthey to kill little miss green originaly, because she is beyond saving. And the one that destroyed her soul, gets a house dropped on her. She's just a lost soul, turned evil that needs to be put down. At the very least, they could've cast Mia Kunis to play the role again. But she probably did/would've turned it down after realizing that this is going to be a dumpster fire on the same level as Rings of Power. Eugh. What a load of crap. TO BE CLEAR, I love your channel Tessa. But this is clearly Kathleen Kennedy trying to earn back any favor/respect she can on her knees, after South Park Joining the Pander Verse laid out her and Bob Eiger for all of their sins.
It's actually based on a musical from the 1980's, its not disney pushing a modern agenda. There's a lot of pseudo political crap these days but this is unrelated. It's not even related to Kennedy or Iger this is universal. Not disney.
Well to a degree it is as in the second act that is when the events of the Wizard of Oz. Its just the difference in the musical puts a little spin on things to reveal how certain events appear as they are in the Wizard of Oz (even to the degree by explaining how Dorothy's house gets caught in a twister). @@이마크-r8e
You would know what trash looks like. Let me guess, you think this is "woke" but have no clue what its about and copying what other people who also have no clue are saying. You're SO cool and edgy.
This looks stunning as someone who's never read Wicked or seen the play. This is gonna be my first time experiencing the story, and I'm all in, especially cause I love anything Oz related. 💖💚🫧🧹
What I will say is this is extremely accurate to the stage play. I just hope we get more of the original Maguire story as that is extremely dark and will provide so much more depth.
This looks absolutely wonderful! Everything about it is perfect! 💚🩷 My only criticism is that the movie isn't being marketed as "Part One". This is the first of a two-part adaptation of the musical; Part One ends with "Defying Gravity". Universal is doing the same thing that Warner Bros. did with _It_ and _Dune._
Will you be seeing Wicked in theaters... or will you wait for streaming?!
Definitely yes! It's so stunning!
neither, counting the days to deadpool and wolverine
In theaters, multiple times
Theatre
I’ll Be Seated In Theaters And I’m Excited 😍💚🩷🧙🏿👸🏼🧹🫧
The Glinda and Elpheba relationship is for me the true love story of the entire story since it is two powerful witches united against everything

Ariana grande from Cat valentine to Amanda benson to Glinda I’m so proud 🥹
I’m guessing this is Def much more book scewed since it’s cut in 2 parts which means they are def adding book elements which I’m excited about

Honestly, I feel that both Wicked movies are in good hands. Not only that, Jon M. Chu is a brilliant director

no one is reading all of that btw
If you're talking about Wicked there is zero way they could rename it something else otherwise it would not be ojk.
Didn't Oz the Great and Powerful fail critically and in the box office? Also isn't this based on the play which isn't really canon to Oz?
Well to a degree it is as in the second act that is when the events of the Wizard of Oz.
