This was actually one of my favorite videos as it gives all golfers, that want to know actually what is happening, the information to fix their own swing, given how they want to swing - it also gave me an understanding of how Colin Morikawa hits his what feels like a closed clubface 3-yard fade - i.e. swinging left throw release from what appears to be a shut position at the top - I actually love practicing that shot for long irons into greens for a high soft fade.

This was all 100% spot on. A little late in my amateur career but I'm glad instructors are finally discussing at length the difference between the 2 releases and not just offering plain vanilla "have the toe point up to the sky on the way back" advice.

I’ve been twist style for decades. I’m happy to see this presentation.
I’ve tried the throw style but it feels unnatural.
It’s refreshing to see guys willing to work on what the player has rather than a one swing fits all flavor of the month 😎
    Thanks!

This is exactly what I have been looking for. I am a new golfer and I must tend to do a natural crossover release as that's what the instructor im working with has been pushing me toward. but I find a huge amount of inconsistency at the moment. I am going to give the throw release a try and see if I like it more or if its just not for me. at least I know now that ill have to play more of a fade/draw style if i have to play the crossover/twist release
    Thanks so much for this!

Went to range today and automatically started the feel of throwing the club. No thinking about my downswing but just focusing on set up. I honestly hit every club from wedge to hybrid like I've never got them before. Effortless swinging, less rigid, i kept saying to myself "just hit the ball" and i honestly did and they were going relatively straight. Throwing motion definitely works for me

An interesting analysis of the golf swing arc by Kevin Roman! I purchased one of those club head magnets recently and now I know how to utilize it! Prior to viewing this video, I had gone to a semi-closed club face on takeaway and at impact ala "throw style" and it is definitely working. Now I know that I was trying to take the club more straight out (twist style)rather than around my body with the clubface pointing to the sky with a broken left wrist on the follow through. Great video Eric! I learned a lot from it.

Great video. So, we should start "throwing" with our right hand/wrist (go from extension towards flexion) somewhere between P4 and P5 Eric (starting at 10:58 in the video)? Reminds me a bit about what Mike Malaska talks about in terms of "tumbling" the club head over, or Brian Manzella (the club head at some stage in the downswing needs to get from just above and behind the hands to just below and in front) or Josh Zander (feel the right hand start to slap out and down towards the ball early in the downswing - can't quite remember the words in the video).

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Mark!
Of course there will be FEELS......and measured REALS.
The best ball strikers have their trail wrist still in extension at impact.
So while its MOVING......toward......flexion.....it doesnt reach flexion until well past impact.

This is good info to contemplate. In my opinion, we need to keep in mind, the effect that body movement, especially lower body (legs and hips) has on release and shaft rotation. I'm finding that the more my lower body moves, rotates and creates torque, the less my hands and arms have to do. My shot shape is generally straight or a slight draw. My release happens almost by itself. The weight of the club, and the momentum created by lower body doing most of the work, releases the club for me. Soft arms and wrists are part of the equation.

@@CogornoGolf In my experience as a TH-cam golf follower, each new post that focuses on one or two movements or positions tends to get us off track from basic fundamentals we should stay with. Nothing wrong with learning new things. Just that most of us forget what good things we learned before. I believe strongly that lower body movements should always be stressed at beginning and during instruction.

Eric - upon advice from my golf instructor I’m starting to incorporate the throw release. I find that it makes it easier to release the club around your body on the follow through. However the tough part is to still keep your arm/ wrist straight past impact and then extend left wrist after. Any suggestion? Very good explanation of both concept.

    • @CogornoGolf

      Theres for some SOME twist.
You'll see the two styles in this video how one will have more "twist" and other other more "throw". A lot of malaska videos would be more the "throw" style with less twist.
to have less "twist" you must have the club face more square/closed EARLIER in the swing

I wish I had the flexibility to play the throw release more. That feeling of the face pointing more to the sky after impact makes for a very stable clubface. However, this does require more right side bend, and rotation. I have a tendency(on bad days) to stall my body out, keep my shoulders too level through the hitting zone, and release the club face too closed. I understand both of these concepts completely, and I agree with both of you to do what feels easier to repeat. I have lower back problems, so on days when it’s tight, I play more of a twist release. However, on days when I feel loose, and flexible, I’ll play with more right side bend, and rotation, more like the throw release. I will say… I usually score better playing the latter(side bend, rotation), when my body is able. Love your content, Eric.

      @@CogornoGolf it’s probably just a feel :)
Both the steep plane and the bowed leadwrist at impact. I had some hook problems during the last season, so the feel of a steep plane counteracts the hook and the bowed wrist is even that a anti feel against the hook. Those feels may just neutralize everything that went south 🤔
I’m building everything I do around impact, and to ground the iron at the right place, and sometimes the feels circulate to ensure my impact feels great.

Bryson and Kyle were talking about throwing when trying to crush drives.
Let’s get Kyle on the channel 😉

@@CogornoGolf lol I will start spamming them. They didn’t go into any details, just talking to each other about. Left me very interested.

Choose what works and reject what doesn't.
At some point the lesson ends and the game begins.

This seems dangerous for me as I am a flipper and have worked hard to stop that. Unless I misunderstood this video, which I am sure I did, it was over my head.

This is really confusing coming off the back of watching your various videos on left arm supination. (“Pros do this 2x more…”).

      sorry for the confusion!

Does this not contradict the supination videos though? This one seems to be saying “flip away” ie extension of the lead wrist early on in the downswing. Whereas the supination videos are suggesting otherwise.
