    The great thing about the throw release is that its a more natural sporting action,as a golf nut i spent years on training my left arm/side it has turned me almost ambidextrous!
    but most golfers dont have the time or dedication/stupidity to do this! still it got me down to 5hcp at an old age
    But teaching my GF newish to golf but used to be a good squash player, the hinge/throw release really works! I have exaggerated it even more in that a drill to start loading from halfway past the ball almost right arm// loading softly all the way to right hand over right shoulder as the right arm is loaded co ordinated she has the sporting ability/confidence not to try and hit from top at ball knowing her right arm is going to hinge and release her Drives are already longer and straighter
    I got my winter 11deg driver out and due to this i am instantly hitting it higher and 20yds further than last year!

      That’s fantastic, I was a tennis player when I was younger and using my hands in this manner and it really helped me play golf, but then I started getting lessons and they changed my grip and told me toe up in the back swing toe up in the forward swing, I had to then slow the swing down to get the timing right. It’s great your GF is learning this way and using her natural sporting ability. Increasing the loft will help luckily I add loft to mine as it’s adjustable in the winter also. Thanks for the great comment 🙏👍

    Think i do this but left hand feels more roll! But spookley literally just showed my GF this throw release yesterday in an effort to square up her right hand grip (yes she know has a strong left) and it worked!
    Even thought about it today, shot 4over and hit some crisp 40-80yd wedges

      @@mattbakergolf Thanks, she had the classic badly taught weak left hand (only lefties playing right eg Spieth Hogan use this But most beginners/hackers taught this!)
      compensated by a very strong right hand causing my GF to block/steer or occ pull draw But hinge release gave her the confidence to release with a more neutral right hand,Never seen a tip have such instant success! (maybe women not being as strong are easier to teach!
      Usually grip changes can take a long time esp for exp golfers,took me ages to slightly strengthen my left hand! (bld Hogan book) by which stage golf ie left arm only swings had made me almost ambidextrous!

      Thank you 🙏 I appreciate your support. Yes is the answer I call it a natural neutral grip if you stand I golf posture and let your left arm hang in front of you you’ll notice your palm faces inwards (for most people unless you’ve injured yourself etc) this is how your joints align and will want to return to this position at impact when the force of the club swings out. We like to see 3/4 knuckles on the lead hand. Check out this video th-cam.com/video/plf1_p-Fqa4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-2lZYfe66rxrkh33 thanks 🙏 again and I hope you enjoy the videos

    Hi Matt. Thanks so much for a well explained lesson on the release. Very interesting. I am a senior golfer with a classic wrist roll release. The way I was taught and I have never tried another type of release. For sure there are timing challenges and dispertion inconsistances with the wrist roll release. I have to use my arms a lot more these days and the wrist roll release seems to generate a bit of swing speed. Your video makes perfect sense and I will give your throwing release drills a try and experiment with that. Get a hot toddy in you to fix that cold.

      Thank you so much for the kind words. I was taught the first method and I had a reasonable career with it but I found Mikes site and it changed my whole outlook on the swing, in fact it was simple when I’d been making it so hard. I hope it helps and it would be interesting to hear how it goes. Thanks again for your comment I really appreciate it 🙏

    So is L to L not the same has the hands release? Could you do L to L with the throw release?

    • @mattbakergolf
      @mattbakergolf  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah for sure, once the club pivots though the arms rotate in the shoulder socket the golden area of when the lead and trail arm are parallel to the ground then it feels like a throw release. Remember though it’s square to the swing path (which is slightly curved) and not straight back and throw down the target line, this means there is a small fraction of face turn but nowhere near as much as rolling the club through. I did this video based on some of the questions that came in from this video 👍th-cam.com/video/n3GDqr5amH0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4ffz76R9cGLNIQgv

    Matt this is super - I’m now a subscriber !
    I was (as many of my age) taught “toe up to toe up” - fine when I played and practised a lot but with work, family commitments etc timing was so key and although I got down to 8 I always fought a hook.
    The throw release has saved me - love Mike’s work and you have explained it even better !
    Still working on it (it’s a journey not a destination) but feeling I’m more “in control” of my swing more and I can not hit a ball for a couple of weeks and still get back into it.
    Quick question - do you think backswing match-ups are needed (flatter one plane) to suit this release ?

    • @mattbakergolf
      @mattbakergolf  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow that’s great to hear I’m so glad it’s helped you, it sounds like you have been through the same coaching as I did. Mike from @malaskagolf really helped me understand just how simple it could be and the correct hand action really is a large key to this. As
      For plane we would generally steer towards the shaft working up in the backswing to under in the downswing (we call this up to under, think of a baseball player swinging a bat) and the arms working on a slightly flatter plane than the backswing ( we call this arm action loop). In saying this though if I was coaching you we have what’s known as a window of opportunity if you’re not too far off we’d leave it alone, as long as it’s repeatable. Thank you for the great comment and also subscribing I really appreciate it🙏👍

Regarding all my videos I’d say 95% are I’ve been learning with Mike for 10 years and most of it is based around the right hand throwing action. I did though for a number of years play the other way (which you can) but learning this made me far more accurate and consistent. Thank you for your subscription I really appreciate it 🙏

    • @mattbakergolf
      @mattbakergolf  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you I had so much fun filming it (hence it went on for a while) Yes, you could call it “strong” but in our world (@malaskagolf) it what I call a “neutral natural grip” it’s how my joints align when I let my left arm hang in front of me. It’s also a stable way to hold a club. Example, if you were to swing a baseball bat at a tree etc you’d see how you’re left arm and hand would position at impact eg the heel of the lead hand would be leading (poor grammar) I’ve done videos on grip where I explain it a little better th-cam.com/video/plf1_p-Fqa4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2qCCbkQU6GmHljJv

    • @mattbakergolf
      @mattbakergolf  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, for me it’s 4 knuckles but that’s for me, simple way to check yours is to take golf posture and let your arms hang in front of you. That’s how your lead arm should look when you take hold of the club. Then just add the club keeping that look etc. That’s your natural neutral grip. I hope that helps 👍 thanks for your question I appreciate it 🙏

    I went to the driving range today to try this out... and it seems that I have to manually make this move with my wrists. My forearms and wrists want to naturally go the to the forearm rotation release if I don't interfer in the swing. That is how golf clubs are designed... the heel is heavy so the toe of the club rotates. Trying to hold the face of the club facing the sky in the follow thru after impact isn't a natural motion for the design of the club. Could you address this in another video please? . I agree...the ball does go straight everytime, but it's easy to hit it fat, especially with irons. It works great with the driver though. Can you also mention players that use this release and players that use the rotational release, so we can watch their swing on YT. Could you please put some links in the description where you talk about the throw release in your other videos?

    • @mattbakergolf
      @mattbakergolf  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi, thanks for getting back. Tough one as I mentioned in the video you can play both ways, I personally like the throw release. I will definitely do a follow up and explain it in more detail (even longer video coming up 😬 sorry) if you’re having to do it manually I guess you’ll stall the body motion and this will cause you to fat it, but at the same time I’m guessing it was your first attempt and you have to “make it happen” hence the smaller swings then build up to fuller swings.
      Remember the trail hand remains square to the swing path so the face will have a little rotation in it (as the path is slightly inclined and is a curve) also the arms rotate in the shoulder sockets at about Midway back and through hence again it makes it look like the face is rotating. What we don’t want is the face rotating faster or slower than the swing path.
      As for pros I love Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Julie Lang, I’ll think of more also there’s a great golfer called Austin Graham instagram.com/austingrahamgolf?igsh=MW9uMGQ2aHpja2hvYw== his swing is beautiful (in my eyes) also check out @malaskagolf
      Once again thanks for the comment and questions ( I love it) and I’ll definitely do a follow up my video this week is about pivoting the club so I’ll do it next week. 🙏👍

  • @anthonyviola9400

    It appears if we do this we could be hitting a flip, perhaps I am not clear on this method of release

    • @mattbakergolf
      @mattbakergolf  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      It would if you didn’t involve the body. The golf swing is a dynamic motion and if I stood there and just flapped with my hands and arms I would be hitting with a flip (early release) but if I add in my body motion (pushing away from the club with my left hip) then release happens just past impact. I’ve done plenty of videos on this. I sure I mention this in the video but I did waffle on a bit 😬 thank you for the question and the comment I appreciate it 🙏

    • @mattbakergolf
      @mattbakergolf  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ah but you still have to time it correctly same as throwing a ball you throw it too soon you’ll not hit the target you throw to late you’ll miss the target. So for yourself you need to not throw it too soon you’ll soon and maybe you already have a good action. The point of the wrist action is it flexes back and forth and doesn’t have as much rolling in the swing. Don’t go throwing the club from the top or intentionally throw the wrists.
      I hope that helps and thanks for the comment 🙏

  • @MJP1966USA
    @MJP1966USA 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    From a feel perspectivce, when do you feel you are throwing it? I assume if you throw it early, you are essentially flipping/scoping by adding loft and reducing compression? If you time the throw, you will get a straight shot with compression?

    • @mattbakergolf
      @mattbakergolf  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Thank you for your comment. Regarding when to feel the release. I don’t force the release I let it happen it’s a combination of using the weight of the club and my body pushing away from the momentum of the club as it swings around me. What you don’t want to get into is holding the angle to try and create lag. A great way to time the release is to throw a ball at another ball on the ground, if you release it to early the ball will hit behind the ball too late it will release down the fairway. Use your natural instincts. I hope this helps 🙏

    • @detlefstronk8912
      @detlefstronk8912 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Excellent. But there is a second way of the throw release, active and very early. Mike Austin recommended it first, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger did it. Like accelerating a swing shortly after the start of the downswing with the right hand.

  • @davidben5159
    @davidben5159 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I’m sorry I don’t agree with this confusing theory. Because the problem is to have the wrist on the downswing at position point where you can hinge the wrist to hit the ball.(the hinging action is like the door hinge at precise point)

    • @mattbakergolf
      @mattbakergolf  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s ok 👍 as I mentioned in the video you can play both ways just I prefer and recommend the throw/tour release. I understand where your coming from but both arms rotate in the shoulder sockets (internal and external rotation) hence why the hand gets back into position if it didn’t then you would have a open face in the downswing meaning you’ll have to flip it to try and square the face. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it 👍
