    Putting this out for those who don't know, as I'm 100 % positive Dire knows about this, but I would also advise to use a separate furnace for the automated crafting. You might have to wait quite a while for your crafting orders if the furnace is preoccupied with processing ores from your last mining adventure.

    This was the first time I reached Refined Storage stage in a pack - 1k disk, ok, great. Then slapped External storage to my drawer control - 2 billion slots "Ok, that's better" :D

    • @paulnieuwkamp8067
      @paulnieuwkamp8067 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I often rush to a Refined Storage system, as I don't like to have to resort to chests (vanilla, iron chests, AA crates, whatever) for the misc. stuff. Drawers are great for things you have a lot of, and I definitely put an External Storage onto my Drawer Controller (also, compacting chests!), but it doesn't scale well for all those things you only have a few of (or items with metadata like damage values).
      1k disks are cheap, but larger drives are cheaper (per item) A 4k disk only need three 1k disks (so 33% more storage for free), a 16k disk needs 9 1k drives (77% extra space for free) and a 65k drive only needs 27 (137% extra space). That last one needs diamonds, but combined with a drawer system even a 16k drive lasts a LONG time.

    I have a DW20 server with my friends, we are a few versions behind because updating is hard but we are about two weeks in, and I decided to spring for an early Builder quarry fed into a LOT of storage drawers and a *really* painful early refined storage setup. Its amazing how much more you can do with an early RS setup, it makes stepping into unknown stuff a lot easier and when people come and join late I always have whatever they'll accept being gifted to them.
    All that's to say that I'm really enjoying this pack, I haven't gotten to play with friends since I was in high school; that was vanilla and early too. High fives all around!

  • @ScottGodin
    @ScottGodin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    the one thing I dislike about the Pocket storage as opposed to the /dev/null is that you can't designate a slot to be used in the placement of blocks, like click the storage on something and it places dirt for you or cobble, or whatever, so you're not constantly going back and forth into its inventory to take some out, swap it off the hotbar, and swap in the item you took out, so you can put some down and then drop it on the ground so it goes back in the pocket storage ... the devnull was so much cleaner about avoiding that.

I can program Java, I can make simple mods, but I don't have any idea how to make more complex ones. For the mod idea, think of sort of a computercraft/applied energistics, kind of? It's really hard to explain, but I think it would be neat if I can figure out how to do it.

    Once you get to know about channels and P2P, AE2 really becomes fun to play. But without the addons like AE2Stuff and Lazy AE2, crafting gets tedious especially early on.
    RS on the other hand really shines with autocrafting that includes fluids. And the recent "CTRL+Click to craft" on the terminal, oh it really makes the mod so wonderful.
    Both have pros and cons, and like you said Dire, it's great to have both options included. And agreed that more people should make a similar style mod so we can have even more options.

    • @Mirality
      @Mirality 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fluid crafting is still a bit wonky. For processing patterns for machines with tanks, you can use fluids directly. You can't use fluids in the standard crafting patterns, though, you have to use buckets of fluid and there isn't an automatic way to use stored fluid as a bucket. So you have to set up a processing pattern to turn fluid + bucket into filled bucket using a machine or vanilla dispenser.
      This is still better than AE2, though, which doesn't have any way to craft with fluids at all.

    DIRE USE IRON/GOLD/DIAMOND/NETHERITE CRAFTERS!
    i was totally surprised that you didn't use them. they are super handy, specially for the processing machines
    even tho i higly suggest that you only use the netherite ones for the machines, they are ultra mega expensive even if you follow the mekanism netherite route...

    • @Mirality
      @Mirality 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The netherite ones are great for the general crafting patterns. Thus far I've never needed more than an iron crafter for processing machines; there simply aren't enough patterns for any single machine, and extra speed is useless when you're just waiting on the machine anyway.

    • @JoachimVampire
      @JoachimVampire 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mirality yep, you're right. i now have 3 full netherite crafters... for the procesing recipes back in the day i used to stack 5-6 crafters on top of each other on the enderio alloy smelters but in this pack it's true that there's not so many recipes involving single machines

    Beeg tip, it seems that you have just been doing this series for so long you have lost popularity, try out some other stuff and you might pick up some traction again
