I am so glad that lady stayed firm on her asking price for the Star Wars! Seriously dude....she wants to make money JUST AS YOU DO. AND YOU ARE STILL MAKING MORE THAN SHE DID!!!
it's been commented on here, but not really liking the need to negotiate on everything. If you get a great price, don't be greedy. and if you're going to haggle with the price and get them down from $25 to $15, at least have exact change and don't make them go give you change after you just robbed them :) I like to negotiate, but i also know when to not push for an extra $1 or 2
Definately. don't forget this guy sells too. So he's not the happy treasure hunter like us, he's the reason good folks stopped having garage sales and now go straight to ebay.
Bull crap. As long as both sides-the buyer and the seller- are pleased with the offer there is nothing wrong with it. Negotiating is an art, Business is an art. You'll never be successful in business if you have a soft heart.
I've been to garage sale where people were asking too low of a price and they don't want to take the money when I tell them I want to pay them more. It's usually a older lady selling her husband's stuff. One lady had some snap-on tools and was asking like a dime each. She refused to take the money when I tried to give her $50. I had to just leave it behind on a table to get her to take it.
I always leave the giant wad of money IN my pocket...not waving it in the seller's face after you just negotiated down on the price....and then asking them to make change showing that you have the money to pay for the original price. May work for you...but I don't PERSONALLY care for that tactic. Just me.
+mydejavooo1 I have refused to sell to people like that even after we've agreed to a price. I send them on their way and the next person to come will buy it. I will even sell it cheaper to a nice person than at a higher price to any douche bag.
+Heru- deshet Amen. Just seems like such a douche thing to do. Even wearing flashy watches....wearing fancy clothes.....gets you further than packing $2000 in a $500 money clip. And the cheesy tambourine sound??? How cheesy is that?
I love to haggle but have the decency to know when not to. I've found the best treasures from people who decide to show me something I may be interested in that wasn't out for sale simply because I treated them with respect.
Some people get a high off of "winning", which is a sad way to live. CL Hunter, you are one of them. I've been watching you for awhile and never comment on any videos but this was very disrespectful. This clearly makes other resellers look bad. You should look at both sides of the situation to get a better understanding and for that $1-$2, just make it up on the next route.
"I can only do $15$". Pulls out $2000 in $20.00. I always carry around 10's and 5's and always put in my hand the most I can spend. But this guy obviously knows how to do this.
Wow people this guy gives out so much information and all you guys can do is hate! Why not learn something from this guy that has a sh*t load of experience and apply it in your life, reselling, whatever . Much respect for this guy and keep on hustling!!!!
Dam that lady gave you a working record player for 3 dollars and you asked for 2 dollars. That was pretty cold. I don't know if I could ever do that hahaha. I do notice that as I buy more I become more comfortable and do things I used to not do.
Jack Middleton that's how you end up with a psycho-cycle. hahahahhahha good deal. :) *well he asked 40. weeks go by. I see him at another thing, asks 50. so I end up buying it for 25 and it is a unicycle styled tricycle. :) hahahahha
After reading the comments, im glad i wasnt the only person who thought he was rude and greedy with the people he purchased from. You could cringe at the moment he got her down to 15 from 25 and then made her go inside to give him change for his $20 that he just pushed her down from.
Yeah, but she doesn't know how much he technically "budgeted" for his garage sale shopping that day. Let's say he limited himself to $50. That extra $5 is that purchase of the Star Wars thing. And then he would still have $30. He never says he can't afford it, he's just asks if they'll drop it to get the best deal he can.
That was Pete's jedi mind trick. He knew that the price would be lower on Ebay than Amazon, that is why he didnt walk! Pete committed a garage sale sin, never pull out a wad of cash!!!!
Always good to have a lot of $1.00 bills...If I was there and over heard him asking for change I would told him, "I have change $18.00 for your $20.00 just a low $2.00 service fee hahaha...
We love you Pete Yes every buck counts Pete And she has the right to stick to her price. Pete know that, he's just trying her and let's face it His customer all ask him for a reduction in his prices!!!!
It's pretty common knowledge that you should take small bills to garage sales instead of constantly asking people to make change for your twenties. It's simple garage sale etiquette, plus it can benefit you as the buyer because when they are asking $10 for something and you only have a $5 and a $1 in your hand, they are more willing to take $6 because they think that's all you have. Better than them seeing you pull out wads of $20 bills from your pocket after you just haggled them that far down.
I like the woman who didn't back down on the star wars toy lol I hate garage sales solely for this. you put things for .25 cents they want it for .10 cents. It infuriates me lol
Mary Lou Barnwell i hate how he carries SOOOO MUCH CASH in hand and counts it in front of the people holding the garage sales :/ i uNDERSTAND they are garage sales BUT HE SHOULD CARRY DOLLARS or smaller bills at least.. Yard selling 101

My brother used to do all this stuff 30 years ago and taught his friends too, they couldn't believe how much money he used to make. He'd start the day off with 5.00 and end up with a few hundred after selling his finds. He was the nicest, funniest person I've ever known and I wish he was still here but he passed away a year ago.

I don't agree with debating her for a dollar.... .......

pa triot Exactly...For a DOLLAR!!! But, apparently, Austin needs to learn these tricky, hard to find, and very tactful "negotiating skills" in a video. lol

I don't get all these people getting upset in the comments about you negotiating... it's really not a big deal, guys. You want a better deal, you ask for it. If someone doesn't like your offer, they can tell you to screw off.
Been watching your videos and I have learned a lot. I can't do anywhere near the volume that you do but I have made a few a few grand doing this in just a few months. It's a fun way to make extra cash; and learn about what to look for, I'm mainly into vintage electronics or high-end electronics but your videos have taught me a lot. Keep up the good work!
It seems alot of people get angry at you with some deals you make by getting a lower price, to me you are a great shopper and know how to turn a profit! hey this is america, the greatest country in the world!its all about making money!
It's true, if you're already getting a deal, why dicker. I have picked up some very cool resalable items for the prices mentioned. I think the coolest thing I found at a garage sale was an original Star Wars droid factory in the box, from '77, I think I paid a buck for it.
Why is everyone so mad?? This is how people do business. Don’t think for a minute that the people selling the stuff didn’t negotiate the same exact way and probably still do. This is called FLEA MARKETING. This is not a grocery store or Macy’s where prices are not negotiable. This is selling stuff without paying taxes to the government. Do you think the people selling are claiming the extra cash and paying taxes at the end of the year?????? Guess what??? He has to!!!!
Pete, you may already know this - but be sure to switch the receiver to "normal speaker" mode, which is a combination of holding one of the buttons when powering it up (sorry I don't recall which one). It comes factory set for "small" speakers all around and a low power limit. Set it for normal, and you get the speaker setup menu and full power capability. You made a total killing on that turntable.
You have a lot more patients then i do. When i go yard sale hunting and people start spouting off Ebay after i make an offer and what not i just walk away. The point of a yard sale is that buyers get a good deal and sellers get cold hard cash right then and there rather then having to spend their time putting listings up on Ebay, sitting on it if it doesn't sell or wasting more time packaging and shipping something.
Nice video ! But I'm a little skeptical about the teak chairs. There are many kinds of teak, and not all of them are expensive. Birmanian teak is the best. Then some african teak can also be expensive. This is because the trees are old so they give big planks. Usually this kind of garden furniture is made with artificially grown teak, since the planks needed are not as long as for a boat deck for instance. In France a set of teak table + 4 chairs usually retails for 200 to 300 euros (250 to 400 dollars). Thanks for the videos anyway !
@@thegreg79 i would give up the pennies and make a connection you never know who will call you with some hot tips leave the pennies behind and network instead you give up the pennies because you can't be everywhere but pay the pennies they just might get you something in return i know you get it?
Y'all keep saying that he was being rude to the Star Wars lady, but honestly after watching it, it seemed like a very normal negotiation. Sorry, I know everyone's hearts break nowadays when one person doesn't act "perfect" or "nice" to them, but this was an everyday encounter. Both are using simple negotiating tactics to try and get a better deal for themselves. This is real life people. Are feelings going to be hurt? :( yes. So what, it's a part of life. Competition is a part of nature. If y'all wanna argue that he was being rude to her, then I can say just as much for her, by not giving him a welcoming "hi" and being short with him. Get over yourselves.
And then he pulls out the wad of money and asks for change. I love this guy. I don't what they say about you Pete, you are alright with me! Shrewd business man! I could be wrong here, but I'm going to go on a limb and say I bet Pete is like this in business, but personally would give anyone the shirt off his back if they needed it.
Geez, if you go to yard sales, don't show a first ull of twenties after bargaining her down so low. That just petty & small minded. Bring ones & fives.
Thank you so much for making such an inspirational video I love the way you are showing every step to everyone very clearly and the be very straightforward . You are such an inspiration for me and for other people to start their own business a low level
Guys, I hope you realize he is trying to make a living doing what he does. And people who sell used are often open to negotiation. He is also honest and open about what he does! If he didn't negotiate it wouldn't be a business!
haha that girl with the star wars toy hahaha i get that all the time also!! You got all them fuzes but didnt buy the sony cd walkman??? You are one of my TOP fav youtubers to watch!! love all your videos
im just talking for all the real men out there . if you dont want to sell it dont sell it . they made fair deals all the way , give him his change !!!! i saw alot of comments againts this guy and had to speak up .
This was entertaining. That lamp is beautiful and much older than 60s. I think you're nice and cordial, and agree haggling is part of the business; you can always ask for a "best price" without being insulting, and they can always say no. I also agree it would be prudent to take some smaller bills. With Star Wars toy, rather than push for all that time for only an extra dollar (which is not good business as you could be missing great deals) and take time educating her about EBay, why not ask if you find other items for a good bundle price? Like you did on the next sale....thanks for sharing!
pete thank you for responding back to me i checked out profit bandit, but right now for me just getting started i will hold off on that, but i look forward to more of your VIDEOS keep them coming! peace & NAZDROWIE!!!!!!
What's it matter how much he pays for stuff? it's there fault for not knowing how much it's worth. cheers to you man for knowing your stuff. People are so quick to judge because your bringing people's prices down, but it happens in reality all the time, and no one's cares then. nice video!!
Steve I believe the blue glass lamp is older. That plug is an after market plug that was popular in the 60's and easy to put on. The metal and style of the lamp may be earlier. Maybe 30's 40's. I would do more research. Beautiful piece.
That "plug" that he keeps referring to in order to date the lamp to the 1960's looks like a common replacement plug you would buy at the hardware store. I still have a couple of them in my supply drawer that looks just like it. I guess i have had it for a few decades though.
My husband and I found a brand new, huge Kohler triple bowl cast iron/enamel kitchen sink for $20 at a garage sale. It was worth somewhere between $1500 - $2,000.
I bought a pink 1950s lamp that had gold speckle at a shop in Southern Illinois for $15. The guy told me it sat for some time. So, I took it up north, priced it at $18 and it was the first thing sold at the garage sale. If I had known, I would have priced it higher It was cracked as well but the crack was only visible from the inside. Happy to dump until I saw how fast it went.
Love such videos. Very informative! Thanks. I'd walk right out from that garage sale with Star wars plane. Let her sit with it and "sell it on ebay". They love to say "it sells online for xyz amount of money" they don't even know how to look at how much it really sells for..... I went to 2 garage sales this weekend was a total bust. Stopped in gw and scored there lots of good stuff :)
Im doing my first garage sale today. We got this Treasure Map App that pulls off of Craigslist to flip on Amazon FBA!! Very exciting stuff.. Im watching your videos and i love you put out the content on what to expect and how to go about bargaining :) Great Stuff boss.. Following you now
I love these videos because I do the same that Thing You Do, pretty much. I peruse Craigslist, eBay, garage sales, thrift stores, Goodwill buy and resell stuff. I really enjoy it because I Am My Own Boss and I find unbelievably cool stuff all the time but on the other hand I'm not a big fan of these videos because then you get all these Weekend Warriors thinking they know what they're doing clogging up all the good sales LOL. my three favorite and most knowledgeable areas would have to be jewelry fishing equipment and currency of any country but mainly the bulk of my knowledge is in u.s. coins
I agree, the wad of cash is indeed offensive...bring smaller bills!! May the way you treat others at their sales come back at you when you resale.
Really $ 1.00? Shameful.

You made a total killing on that turntable.
she was at $20 - you offered her $15 and then had her get $5 change for you after paying with a $20
Freestyle Finds yeah I agree. That was totally not cool at all. That was just very sad. And she was an old lady too
It was like he was sticking it to her. On camera. And someone my mother's age. Tsk tsk peter.
Like a boss!! It's business, I like the hustle.
Pissed me off when he pulled out the cash wad...did you see her face? I was angry for her. Then you say you’ll make sixty....cheap, dude.
maribeth merton 😭😭
Can't believe you wouldn't pay $3 for that stereo and insisted on only paying $2! I stopped watching after that. Tight wad!
it was only a dollar plus he is selling it for 75.00 dude is cheap.
@@seymour5575 dude is maximizing his profits. pennies add up.
@@thegreg79 i would give up the pennies and make a connection you never know who will call you with some hot tips leave the pennies behind and network instead you give up the pennies because you can't be everywhere but pay the pennies they just might get you something in return i know you get it?
@@seymour5575 i think youre missing the point. These videos are how HE does business, not you.....
@@thegreg79 Any Smart business man would pay the pennies and keep the resources for the future.
I like the format of you going to the tag sale. It's winter now, so it's fun to see. Good shopping.
You're an inspiration man. Wish we had a garage sale culture in the UK but it's only flea markets with tons of other pickers here.
"Are you one of those gopro guys" lol
Very nice episode. I really enjoy the garage sale reality TV idea. Pretty cool.
I'm skipping this video, taking being cheap to the limits
Socks and sandals. My favorite!
You passed up the walkman, those bring good money!
+Beatnik Originals He is not "honest"
haha that girl with the star wars toy hahaha i get that all the time also!! You got all them fuzes but didnt buy the sony cd walkman??? You are one of my TOP fav youtubers to watch!! love all your videos
DAM 5 bucks! lol what a steal. But she was fair lol
im just talking for all the real men out there . if you dont want to sell it dont sell it .
they made fair deals all the way , give him his change !!!!
i saw alot of comments againts this guy and had to speak up .
Talks lady down from $3 to $2 whips out huge wad of cash. Priceless.
This is gold.
Great Teak Chairs Pick Up! I looked On My eBay & Every Single Teak Thing Sells For Big Money! Awesome Find For That Crazy Low Price!
This is the kind of guy that works smarter not harder
pete thank you for responding back to me i checked out profit bandit, but right now for me just getting started i will hold off on that, but i look forward to more of your VIDEOS keep them coming! peace & NAZDROWIE!!!!!!
i have a yard sale about every 3 years. i would love to have him show up and start chiseling. i would raise the price. it's fun.
I am too lazy to negotiate. I would rather just give you the extra $1 than argue with you.
The lamp is from 1910- 1920's, was re wired some time ago.
I love the white garland with the bells!
Lol he said “ Good Morning it’s ten o ten” 😂😂😂😂😂
That "plug" that he keeps referring to in order to date the lamp to the 1960's looks like a common replacement plug you would buy at the hardware store. I still have a couple of them in my supply drawer that looks just like it. I guess i have had it for a few decades though.
Nice score Pete ! Thanks for sharing.
Following you now
you have been giving me a lot of useful info thank you!!!!!! keep making your vids...
+steve mantovani Thanks for watching. Cheers !!
Pete what app did you use to scan the Star Wars toy? Great information and video this week. Thank you!!!
I love these videos because I do the same that Thing You Do, pretty much. I peruse Craigslist, eBay, garage sales, thrift stores, Goodwill buy and resell stuff. I really enjoy it because I Am My Own Boss and I find unbelievably cool stuff all the time but on the other hand I'm not a big fan of these videos because then you get all these Weekend Warriors thinking they know what they're doing clogging up all the good sales LOL. my three favorite and most knowledgeable areas would have to be jewelry fishing equipment and currency of any country but mainly the bulk of my knowledge is in u.s. coins
I love how people act like you are a criminal ,haha when its just normal negotiations.
Very nice score, Hunter! Keep up the great work...
