    I'm not a dealer like you, or semi-private, but I've learned to keep smaller bills in different pocket. so like at 10:00, when he's asking if he'll go down from $20, I would already have a couple of 5's and ones in my hand. There's something about seeing the cash and waving $13 "that's all I've got..." maybe dig out a couple of quarters.... pretty soon they say, "sure...." Doesn't work all the time but especially yard sales people see the cash & want to take it.

      @helloby791 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hitting lots of yard sales you'll eventually run out of smaller bills and it's not worth it going out of your way going to the bank and usually they have change.

      lol I make my comment then just saw yours. It's like making that deal for $5 less then driving off in a $80,000+ car. I have had sold at swap-meets and I gave very good deals and people still want to talk you down, those people I do not deal with. One time selling a jiffy steamer a $100+ item I was asking only $25 plugged it in to show them it worked these people tried to talk me down I said NO! they walk off less them 30 seconds come back and say "we want the steamer" LOL I say "I'm just going to keep it". lol the face they made priceless then take the walk of shame!. Later that day I sold it for $30.

      he's lying.alot of his videos he does people like that.
      he's trying to make a fool out of them..if he has that much cash he can go to the bank and get all small bills..amd work from there

      I talk people down on stuff all the time. When it comes time to pull the cash out, who cares if they see you have more? A deal is a deal.

    One of the worse things to do is to go to a Garage Sale and barter the price down on an item and then pull out a wallet full of money. That's totally rude

    • @pearlmax
      @pearlmax 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Want to see rude, check out the Lonnie guy with the shed. He's a total cheapskate. Then he makes videos while he rounds up his ebay orders like anyone gives a flying shit about this and that thing he sold for $5.99. Complete hack. For one, if you're successful, there's absolutely no reason to rip people off while sourcing inventory. If you're successful, then you make a load of money on ebay, have way more inventory than you can even list and have no reason whatsoever to nickel and dime poor people who spent hours setting up their sale to supply you with more inventory. Also if you're successful, you're not wasting your time with $5 orders. So obviously he's not successful, so in that sense, I can't blame him. I bet he's living ebay sale to ebay sale, has no money saved, and has yet to figure out what to buy and what not to waste your time on. This guy is okay, he pays fair prices for junk people bring into his shop.

      I've been to many yard sales that work just like that because the seller doesn't know IF anybody else might be interested before the sale time is over, and it's better to make that $3 than it is to haul it back to the garage to try again and HOPE for a dollar or two more. Yard sales have a purpose....TO GET RID OF STUFF not hang on to it, and pack a few dollars in their own pocket and clean out what they might consider junk or just un-needed, un-used, un-wanted, taking up room "stuff".

    Don't be afraid to buy the old fans if they don't work. Just get them really cheap. It's almost never the motor, those motors are so heavy it's almost impossible to burn them up. It's usually the wiring or the switch, both are relatively simple if you are handy. You can even order the old cloth wiring from eBay or a place called Sundial Wire. Or just sell as is. Check the oscillate function - it is pretty typical for that to get stripped out.

      Way back when Juarez was a fun and safe place to go shop over the border, my Dad taught me to hide most of my money except for maybe a $5, a couple one's and change and act like as much as you like whatever you're looking at, you don't have what they're asking, bow your head and start to walk away. EVERY time I'd get called back and asked "How much did you say you had? Ok, you seem like a nice kid and I know you want it, so I'll sell it to you for that amount". He(or she) came out happy and I did too. Too bad Juarez isn't the place it used to be anymore. $125 leather jacket...paid $17.30 for it :)

    A $1000 record collection for $20- $100 is a decent score for me, the only problem is finding records I want to sell lol
    Learning what to buy is hard at first but it gets easier, knowing a record that looks stupid is worth $100+ is the hard part. 45's and 78's can be hard as well because they have no covers to let you know what you are buying. I bought a $2500 45 once for $0.50 because I knew that it was a rare psych gem even though the band name and songs sounded cheesey because I seen it a week earlier on popsike while browsing.
    I actually just bought a 45 online on discogs last week from England so about $21 shipped, it is a very obscure record with no sales history but the atrist that did the record, his records sell from $50-$300 and the one I bought is more rare than any that have sold yet. I am the one who made the discogs listing for the particular record and the person who listed it did so on the discogs listing I created. A record that sells online for $1 can end up selling for allot more, it is about the music on the record.

    I would just handle your money a bit organised or anyone yardsaling. Don't flash your cash all the $20's in front or the person you just talked down in price it's not like he over priced his fan, then you give him a $20 and take some of his change for his sale and most yardsales never have enough change. When I go yardsaleing each pocket or wallet has set denominations of cash. I would of pulled the pocket with just 5's and a bunch of ones. I would of give him small bills for change two $5's and five $1's

    I found one of those antique fans at a garage sale about a month ago. It was an early 1900s GE. Very cool fan but super dirty and grimy. It was also big and heavy. The lady wanted $50 for it. I couldn't talk her down so I passed on it even though I probably could have made some money. They are definitely worth looking out for.

  • @SunRabbit
    @SunRabbit ปีที่แล้ว

    You're right about the old records, in that you really have to know what sells and what doesn't. Popularity isn't relevant to the price at all. Some popular bands from the 60s or 70s sell for great money and some don't sell at all. Finding a gramophone player is also not that easy since they are kind of expensive. It took me about 5 years to find a working one thrown out in the garbages, the source for all the stuff I sell. I did once find a box of Beatles singles on 45 vinyl and was shocked when they sold for about 60 Dollars a piece, most of them going to JAPAN.

    If you ever have to ship larger items try Bikeflights. It doesn’t really need to be a bike. Greyhound is also great for large items. Thank me later.

    When I'm looking on ebay and I'm sure I not the only one I check the free shipping box. Sometimes shipping will cost as much as the item itself.

    That is amazing. I have a bunch of old fans that I bought at auctions in So Illinois for peanuts. My favorite was just 50 cents. It is a pristine, powder blue Eskimo. I just don't want to part with any of them. I did sell an ancient one at a garage sale in Chicago for $8.00 but someone had painted it all black. It was probably 1920s-1930's. It sold as I opened the garage door. Some guy who saw the photos at my Craigslist posting was cursing up a storm later when he arrived. ... telling me he would have paid $50 for it. I doubt it.

    Pete you made a comment in one of your videos that eBay will take half of the profits or cost 50% something of that nature. Picking today , I overheard a retiree say that his friend sold on eBay and said if he lives to be 120 he will never pay all the taxes the government wants from his eBay profits. ( DISCLOSURE ) I'm Canadian so entirely possible! My question is , did I misinterpret what you said did you mean government and eBay combined cost 50%? Just like a clarification please. Thanks and I enjoy your channel immensely. Thank you for the great info excellent insights, so please keep up the good work! 👍👍

    I think that those unique chairs should bring you some very good money. And the antique fan also. Vinyl like you said needs to be specific. Glasses also needs to be very specific. Great video and info. thanks for sharing

    I have two square candy dispensers on a wooden stand and they have the keys. I'm waiting to move to start some kind of reselling. I only pd 10.00 for the whole thing. We also have a small gumball machine but that holds memories so the grandkids will benefit from it once we're settled. I can't wait. I learn so much from all you people. Thanks Pete. you should put a rubber mat in the back of your truck so you don't scratch items on the metal sliding it in and out, you're making me miss yard sailing. We have a foot of snow here now, so no yard sales until probably may, great finds love your videos!

    Did you know that you can piggyback shipments with I believe it's Fastenal and you don't pay quite as much shipping with them it's just an idea that you might want to check into it could save you some shipping charges and I'm sure that you wouldn't mind saving a little bit of money

    You know, I sell Polka records. Yes, they are not hot sellers. But when they do sell, I usually get good money for them. Polka records that are on old 78 rpms have sold pretty well for me in the past.

    You get abut ten minutes of breeze for 5 cents.
    Someone told me they used to have them in bus stations.

    Just a safety precaution, for you sellers. When you're testing a fan/propeller, consider it could possibly lose a blade, or even explode. Run it up to high, and make sure it's stable before you inspect it from the sides. Be ready to see something you've never seen happen before when testing items like that.

    with vinyl, an important, and often annoying part, is making sure you know the correct version. With an obscure record, not an issue, with a Beatles record, it can be a real pain. the catalog numbers alone are not good because it comes down to what the runner reads - where it was pressed, by whom, ect ect, among other differences to record and or sleeve.
    on ebay, you can list that stuff easily as opposed to discogs where you should find the correct listing, but you may not know exactly what you have and the correct price.
    When selecting listings for my personal archive, i usually settle on close enough and put what i paid or any other notes I may want, especially if its something like a beatles record where there are countless distinctions that were never meant to be considered as such.
    dont look to get into records to make money, a better understanding comes from interest. Collectors are serious about it and will ruin your feedback in a hurry if you dont know what you are doing.
