From her POV, this completely understandable. All Clark had to do was be honest about how he felt, trust her, and not fear losing her - and she probably would've been with him
It reminds me the last episode of season 9, when Lois insisted Clark to be honest with her because his secret was about to ruin their relationship. To both girls he could have say _’Yeah, I have a big secret but can’t tell you because someone could have been in danger’._ They would understand him. But Clark wasn’t able to do even that. That’s because since his very childhood his parents used to forbid him a lot (understand their motives). Therefore Clark grew up too shy.
Trust is earned. Lana failed that test. She condemned Clark for lying then she lies. Hypocritical a little. Clark earned the right to take time to decide when or if to tell her. He earned her trust buy saving her multiple times. Lana rejected this over and over again. Still burns down to Lana being patient. This would have been avoided. In Lana’s defense, she would have had ongoing PTSD from losing her parents so young and right in front of her. Clana!
The writers were incorrect in assuming the show would end if they put Lana and Clark together. I would have loved to see them together and happy for a season. 😊
"I don't need you to protect me." Really, Lana?!? That's quite debatable... Good choice of the broken telescope as a metaphor for Clark and Lana's relationship, which doesn't work any more...
It was supposed to work after everything of what they been together and this is what Clark gets after everything he's done for Lana, man no wonder Season 6 was the most stupidest and most fucked up season ever because of Lana is being with Lex.
Arah Orock It was Clark who broke up with Lana, not vice versa. We all know he did that not because he didn’t love her but wanted to protect her. However Lana doesn’t know about it! She was heartbroken. Then Lex showed himself as a loving, understanding friend. That’s why she started dating with him. Only to *forget Clark.* But when she found out that Clark left her not because he didn’t love her but wanted to protect her, she immediately decided to break it off with the “father” of her “child”. And it was the time when Lex still was a good person for her. That was exactly what she meant by “I love both of you” in “Hydro”. Her love for Clark was true, her love for Lex was out of gratitude. Why Lana didn’t listen Clark when they were warning her about Lex’s true nature. As I mentioned above, she was heartbroken and angry with him (Clark). Plus his warnings were similar to jealousy. He didn't have any proof. Suspicion only. Then how Lana should have understand his illogical actions if at first he warns her about Lex, the wishes her to be happy with him, huh? Also Chloe continued dealing with Lex no matter what. And if you look at Martha and Lionel, you would think that they were a family couple. Do you remember when everyone were warning Tess about Lex’s true nature, she didn’t listen to anyone, because he had saved her. Then in “Bulletproof” Lana showed her PROOF that Lex used her (Tess) for his own purposes. Only after that she finally believed it. So why Clark didn’t do the same? Why he didn’t show her PROOF about Lex’s crimes? It was not a problem with his abilities. Pay atavistic, later when Lana learned about Lex’s true nature, she never blamed anyone for not giving her proof.
Arah Orock there’s no hate, everyone was telling Lana half of the story. Chloe and Clark warns her about Lex, but showed her no proof of what he was really doing. Clark and Chloe was keeping her in the dark and keeping the secret to protect her but she didn’t know that. Lex was manipulating her to hurt Clark, and was the only friend she could turn to, to vent about Clark. Don’t forget they were business partners. Lex pretended to be loving and understanding and she fell for it. Yes she was naive for trusting Lex, but look at what Clark was doing, he could never be completely honest with her, no explanation for everything that was happening. After she caught him with Simone and was told he was hypnotized, he turn around and told her he didn’t love her, breaking her heart all over again. Clark was upset and hurt but that was all his doing, he pushed her away. Lois didn’t have to go through half the shit Lana did with Clark! I don’t think Lois would’ve been able to handle all the secret and lies.
I wasn’t fond of how Lex and Lana got together. Lana caught Clark cheating with that blonde woman in 5x16. He was hypnotized. Then Clark told her he didn’t love her anymore. That wasn’t true IMO. Even in this scene I can see it in both their eyes. They still love each other. Clark was always afraid that if he told Lana his “secret,” he’d either push her away or she’d die and he couldn’t live with himself is she did die. Look what happened in 5x12. He finally told her who he was than she died. He turned back time to save her than his father died. He did exactly what Jor-El had been trying to tell him. Getting too close to humans clouded his judgement. I do wish that Lana at times even when her and Clark broke up would have at least tried to have given him the benefit of the doubt. Clark’s timing at times like in earlier seasons wasn’t always on par but he was there when it mattered. Let’s face it. When Lana was with Lex she could never get over Clark. Lex knew that and it was a bee in his pocket. After Clark broke up with her in season 5x16, he should have steered clear of Lana but he didn't. He never forgave himself for letting her go. What he should have said in this moment was that he hoped Lex could make her happy and that she deserved someone who could give it. And just leave it at that. Lana had a point when she said he made that decision. She gave him his space after his father died and gave him some breathing room but it went downhill and fast. Lex was a distraction for Lana. She didn't love him. He was the shoulder for her to cry on so it was convenient for her to fall in his arms.
Redouane Redou It was after Clark left Lana breaking her heart. We all know he did that to protect her. But she doesn’t know it. Lana was heartbroken and angry with him. So I don’t take her words here seriously. So Lana was ungrateful? Very interesting. So what about all the other times when Clark saved her and she knew that? Or “Extinction” when Van McNulty said he had killed Clark? Did you see her reaction? (“Clark is more human than you’ll ever be!”) Also after hearing about Clark’s “death”, Lana as if didn’t care about herself anymore: she didn’t say “Don’t kill me”, “Please, let me go”.
Redouane Redou I know why Clark broke her heart: he wanted to protect her. But Lana doesn’t know it! It’s false that she didn’t try to understand him. How many times she wanted him to trust her? But he always pushed her away, not because he didn’t want her to tell his secret but had paranoia that she would hate him (the meteor shower had killed her parents). If Clark said her “I really want to tell you what’s going on but I can’t because it can put your life at risk”, she would understand him. So how should Lana have get his actions? So I totally understand her feelings. For example, in “Rush”, when he asked her for a date but later canceled it because Pete got “sick”, Lana said ok. In “Reckoning”, when Jonathan died, she immediately forgot about her offense (when Clark refused to tell her his secret. It (secret) really prevented their relationship, that’s why she took her word back (in “Visage” she said she didn’t care if he had any secrets)). She comforted Clark, searched every pawnshop in Metropolis (a big city, by the way) to find and return his father’s stolen watch. Then at the end of “Cyborg”, Lana got offended because Clark avoided intimacy with her and didn’t explain anything. But the following episode, she said she would wait for him until he would be ready.
Redouane Redou by the way, I also think the matter was in their safety too. For example, at the end of season 3, Pete had to leave Smallville because he couldn’t keep Clark’s secret anymore (those bad guys blackmailed him). So Clark just didn’t want his other beloved ones would have the same problems as Pete’s.
So who forces you to whatch EVERY SINGLE video of them? The worst couple had broken the mythos of Superman and Lois in Smallville making you Clois fans crying under EVERY Clana's video.

this were it got downhill
I agree but at the same time makes more sense with Lex on the show than Pete Ross
Yes it was
Lana is upset with Clark and probably going with Lex out of spite. She doesn't love lex.
