  • Here's a simple and delicious recipe for Chana Dal:
    Ingredients:
    - 1 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram)
    - 3 cups water
    - 1 medium onion, finely chopped
    - 2 tomatoes, chopped
    - 2 green chilies, slit
    - 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
    - 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
    - 1 tsp cumin seeds
    - 1 bay leaf
    - 1 dried red chilli
    - 1/2 tsp jeera powder
    - 1 tsp garam masala
    - 1 tsp black pepper Powder
    - 1 pinch hing
    - Salt to taste
    - 2 tbsp oil or ghee
    - Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
    Instructions:
    1. Preparation:
    - Rinse the chana dal under running water until the water runs clear. Soak the dal in enough water for about 30 minutes to an hour.
    2. Cooking the Dal:
    - Drain the soaked dal and transfer it to a pressure cooker. Add 3 cups of water and a pinch of turmeric powder. Close the lid and cook for about 3-4 whistles or until the dal is soft and cooked through. Alternatively, you can cook the dal in a pot, but it will take longer.
    3. Tempering:
    - Heat oil or ghee in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds,bay leaf,hing, red chilli. When they start to splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
    - Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies. Sauté for a minute until the raw smell goes away.
    - Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and the oil starts to separate from the mixture.
    4. Spicing the Dal:
    - Add turmeric powder, jeera powder, black pepper powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
    - Add the cooked chana dal to the pan and mix everything together. If the dal is too thick, you can add some water to achieve the desired consistency. Let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes on low heat.
    5. Finishing Touches:
    - Add garam masala and give it a final stir. Cook for another minute.
    - Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
    6. Serving:
    - Serve hot with steamed rice, roti, or any bread of your choice.
