- Matt Jones walks us through the Red Bull Rampage digging process and explores some of the new lines for 2023. Riders are allowed a team of two diggers, 75 sandbags, and ten days in the Utah desert to build a winning line at the world's wildest freeride mountain bike event.
Red Bull Rampage returns to the former site of the 2008-2013, 2022 competitions, which last saw riders on the course almost a decade ago. It’s the site of the contest’s most iconic moments, with new history-making sends to occur this week in Utah.

I will never forget the day when Szymon Godziek came into my workshop, telling me the head tube of his Slopestyle frame got bent. Apparently Nicholi Rogatkin told him to travel with his bike in a Hockey Bag, because it's the cheapest way to fly with your bike. Now the same guy who made me put a hammer to his frame is building one of the most ridiculous lines mankind has ever seen. I love it!

I would watch a docuseries of just the riders and builders choosing their lines and digging out the lines to make it ridable. I'd watch like 10 hours of that, EASY.

the reason they don't is because they leave that part upto the rider and their team, to gain any publicity if they want it, some of the riders do it, I always used to watch zink's and brendogs dig vids, the hype is just as fun as the comp

It’s easy to forget that Red Bull is a drink when they put on crazy awesome events like this, dominating the extreme sports 🔥💯
it’s not any drink, it’s a drink with a stimulant in it so it’s addictive. that’s a big reason why energy drinks sells so much.

Why don't redbull have a team of like, alpine builders who scutters around and put nets maybe 10m down from the certain death zones, just to make sure there's some safety. I don't think anyone watching would/should complain about that.
I might be wrong, but that would be kinda nice.
If eveyone walks away with out a major injury this will be a success and push the sport sooo much. I hope the judging awards the hard lines and not just freestyle tricks off perfectly built jumps

The shot at 1:10 finally does a feature justice. That thing is just massive. Takes a special kind of person to look at that cliff and say "Yeah, that's rideable."
That's what i said last year when i saw Godziek's gap that he flipped. Riders get more insane every year. I just hope nobody gets hurt.

Unfortunately Gee crashed hard on the first practice attempt and now airlifted to hospital. He made the drop but the impact pitch him off the bike. He confirmed to medics that he can feel his toes so that is a decent sign of recovery. Doubt he'll return

Having grown up riding there, I don’t think people can begin to understand, over video or even hearing the measurements, just how insane these features are.
Is Brendog building that with Godziek? Not sure he’s “letting others ride it”.
Hands down the most dangerous event in mountain biking & it just gets more & more dangerous every year as more & more digging gets done!

After free falling 20 meters you will hit the landing at more than 70 kph, which is insane
The run in to Brendans canyon gap is impossible. I just hope everyone goes home safe. Every year it looks more and more likely that someone won't be going home.

Yea I was thinking the same thing.. 18m is really far I don’t think the speed will be right and timing it with that pre jump lip will be sketch 🤔 but may look different in person
On video the take off angle of the kicker looks way too flat, like he'll be piling into the back of the landing... can't wait to see him prove me worng though!
