- Watch the latest spectacular edit in the Ridgeline Series with Gee Atherton, the double World Champion Mountain Biker, world-renowned for his skill and daring on a bike taking on the Via Ferrata.
"Since the first hour of the first build for the original Ridgeline film, it's been the dream to take this concept to the most amazing places around the world. The potential to find awesome, remote mountain ranges where we can test ourselves to the limit… to really explore what's possible on a bike and how to film the most stunning footage… it's been like a running commentary throughout the entire project." - Gee Atherton.
This film differs from its predecessors in that the team "didn't move a rock." It was about exploring with friends - an adventure into the mountains, where Gee would ride whatever they found, including some of the most unforgiving terrain of the series so far.
And there's pedalling, even if it's at racing speed and inches from a ravine.
Filming took place this August in the Italian Dolomites, where access to riding spots involved four-hour hikes, roped climbs, ladders and abseils. The team was burdened with camera equipment, drones, food supplies and Gee's bike, broken down to frame, bars and wheels to share the load. It was physically and mentally the most demanding week of the series so far, where a sense of adventure and genuine concern for their survival drove the team onwards in search of some of the most incredible scenes they have ever filmed.
Gee said that from the start, he knew that he'd film this edit on board the Atherton Enduro A.170, the latest in the Atherton Bikes range that he designed and manufactured along with his siblings Dan and Rachel Atherton and their close-knit team in Machynlleth, Mid Wales.
Gee said, "It was a no-brainer - the A.170 is tough enough to withstand being bounced off cliff walls as we hauled it up a cliff on a rope, lighter to hike up the mountain than my DH bike, pedals super well and is enough bike to tackle every inch of the steep and rocky terrain."
He was accompanied by photographer Dan Griffiths (Moonhead Media) and "right-hand man" Jamie Robertson, who had both been with the project from the beginning, but in such perilous terrain, they also involved Brodie Hood, a high altitude and adventure specialist. Brodie is one of the few filmers to fly drones to the top of Everest, an experienced climber and a member of the Lochaber Mountain rescue team.
As Gee put it, "Having Brodie with us kept us alive! But it also meant we could say yes to things we wouldn't have tackled alone… At the end of the film, there's a sequence where I ride down a ridge at sunset; Brodie devised a harness system that meant I could practise controlling my speed while he let out the tension until I got comfortable. The section of the film where I'm riding the slowest, picking my way down the ridge, was actually the most demanding of all.

"I just feel like the cliff I fell off in Wales wasn't big enough" - Gee in the meeting for making Ridgeline IV.
Absolutely. Or something broke in his head? Like the fear affect.
@@wheelchairdrunk dude is so gnarly!
He wants something with real consequences.
this^^^
I think he keeps trying to do himself in while on his bike but it's just not working so he just keeps pushing the boundaries
we've never held our breath for so long. 😯 Unreal work!
thanks guys!!
Agreed. Gripping onto things watching it. Cements Gee's reputation as an absolute monster on the bike, and in the words of Rob, how does he sit down.....
Bedbull rike
Friggin mental.
Definitely a no from me..😳😳😳😳
Red Bull just need to give Gee a briefcase stuffed full of cold hard cash and tell him to go make Where the trail ends part 2! Stop messing about and get it made. Imagine what Gee and Darren Berrecloth could make!
Just found out Gee is doing Rampage again this year, and then this drops. What a legend.
It's been quite a week!
@@AthertonRacingGee cementing legendary status - AGAIN.
@@AthertonRacing FUCK YEAH
Really epic line and the skills Gee has are unbelievable. It would be cool to see him do a full video of travelling the globe and riding lines like this. Can’t wait to see what the next edit will be and also seeing him at Rampage.
Woah scary stuff in there. Big props coming back like this!
Thanks mate, definitely a few sketchy spots 🙂
@@AthertonRacinga few?? I think it’s easier to count the non-sketchy ones at that point 🥴
As a former rider (due to injuries) and parent of an up-n-coming rider, this pushed my buttons. I knew MT biking was going to push riders to more and more extremes, and I think this ride pushed me over an edge. The whole point of this was to showcase that he survived a ride with unimaginably small margins of error framed by some beautiful cinematography. The only thing that kept coming up for me is thinking about how stupid a ride like this is and how saddened I am by all the riders that will end up like me with life changing injuries or worse. I wish the focus wasn't how close you can come to death, but still get likes on your video. RIP Dan Osman.
The point is to highlight the expert's skill level, which is so high that the actual risk for them isn't as significant as it appears to us, the comparatively inexperienced noobs.
@@efdbjon2114 yes, you are a noob
Truly breathtaking... from the riding to the cinematography, way to go guys :)
Music was awesome as well
It was very good. Almost looked like 3 different trail runs in 1 video with the color changes. I wanted to see more of the dark area riding but it cut back out:/
I don’t think you’ve ever had a good grasp on “what is and isn’t okay” 😂.
Epic video, guys. Great work
Why , what for?
I mean this is just on another level.....everything about this edit just blows you away. How does Gee nearly destroy his body falling off a mountain then come back to pull something like this off. There arent words to do this justice!
This is the perfect motivational video I need to charge down my local 30m elevation trail next to the supermarket
Go hard bro ❤
It's nice to watch this guy while he's still alive.
The Dolomites...among the most beautiful mountains in the world. The rider...Monstrous. The Team...Extraordinary. The video...Amazing. Congratulations to all!
I realised about 3/4 the way through that I was gripping on to my phone and remote 😂, WHAT an edit!!! The exposure on that riding is something I can't quite wrap my head around, one mistake and it's Gee in memory only. Whatever you spent on making this and however challenging it was, it was completely worthwhile. A mind blowing piece and awesome advert for the bike 🤘🤘🤯
I agree, a monster to film but definitely worth it. thanks man
Petrifying. Excellent video. All I can say is please don’t keep raising the levels of crazy until it’s game over! Gee on a bike always excites, legend
I couldn’t watch it longer than a few seconds 😂🫣
Sometimes when I see these mad videos, I say to myself... WHY!?
But then when you watch it you're like... WHY NOT! Absolutely EPIC!
Now that is MOUNTAIN BIKING, if ever there was a video that encapsulates the sport, that is it.
This is insane in any possible levels. I really really want it to last but also want it to stop. Truly breathtaking! Amazing!!!
I’d be nervous to walk some of that but riding at pace is absolutely incredible!
It's official, Gee is absolutely crazy 🤪 hats off to all involved 👏 some unreal camera work and as for the rider 😮 insane. Props 👍
The Athertons fight tooth and nail for everything they've accomplished. Hats off. Great branding for your company as well.
Damn good thing you wore your helmet. lol I would have worn a parachute but that's me. Man that's some of the most daring riding I've seen on YT.
Awesome to see Gee back and nicely warming up for Rampage! Stunning edit 👏🤘❤️🌈🕊🌍
The most beautiful, uncomfortable thing I have ever watched.
How is it possible for a human to go through as much as Gee and stay at the same unreal level or riding? This is so insanely impressive, thanks so much to the team for putting this together!
I just texted my brother and mountain-biking buddy of 30yrs: '"Bro, if you haven't seen this guy's channel, set aside some time... Start with this video."
This is stunning footage and an absolute pleasure to watch!
Amazing, strong, complely crazy... what great pictures ! So SCARY !!!!
I think it's the most beautiful MTB video I've ever seen. Goosebumps!
Honestly, I almost cried. This is such a beautifully inspiring movie.
One of the most astonishing things I’ve ever seen on a MTB, amazing work.
This release comes on the heels of me having spent some days paragliding the Dolomites. I think I have more appreciation for this than I would have otherwise. Incredible riding and cinematography. Congratulations on such an accomplishment
Wow, such a comeback from gee in his ridgeline series after the crash from the last one really is stunning! Plus the landscape is unbelivably beautiful.
Gee you're a madman!!! Some incredibly gnarly terrain. Thank you for continuing to push the limits of what is possible on a bike!!!
So much of that exposure was 100% guaranteed death.
Everything about this is off the chart!! Just amazing. 🙌🏻🙌🏻
That is purely INSANE! What a crazy line that is and you make it look so damn easy! Gee is THE MAN!!!
Given what the man went through, I’ve no words for this.
And this is why Gee-man is the people's champion!! The dude is just a beast in everything he does. Him and the whole Atherton familia are simlpy some of my favorites to watch doing what they do! Well done!
Where cycling and mountaineering collide with a talented film team. Lovely.
I got goosebumps just looking at this!😱 Insane and unbelievable... Gee man, you are out of this world!
Just got a new LG TV. This should be the showroom demo video. Absolutely stunning! Respect to Gee, especially given what he went through. This is mental.
This gave me goosebumps and sweaty palms at the same time, absolute mad man. Flying down it as well.
My heart just stopped like 89 times wow that was good filming and editing. This rider has to be the gnarliest ever.
This is an essential experience. Super production, super sound, and super riding. Awesome...
Gee, lad you’re a legend!
The riding is truly breathtaking and thrilling but somehow the World class cinematography and soundtrack are peaceful and intoxicating all at once.
What a piece, credit to the whole team who put this together.
It’s the mos beautiful MTB video I’ve seen
Yeeeahh Gee is back! man of steel!
Good on you for getting back on the bike again after the crash and doing much more gnarly riding..
You sir are absolutely crazy!! But you are truly living life. RESPECT!!!
Your ridgeline videos continuously inspire me to just be a better person. Thank you 👊
Absolutely INCREDIBLE!! WOW!!
Equal parts stoke and anxiety. What a video, Gee continues to ride the gnarliest shit of all time even after his most recent terrible crash. What a legend!
Unreal - so glad to see Gee back on his Bike 🤟🏻
Thanks Gee. Truly inspiring. The loneliness and isolation on that ridge.Knowing its just......you.
Gee Atherton, you are the epitome of "Why do we fall? So we can learn to get back up again!!!" 💪🏼
You've pushed the boundaries of MTB ever since you joined the community, embodying "Go big or go home" in almost everything you do.
Legends aren't born, they're MADE! And you my man have well and truly cemented your LEGEND status in the world of MTB!!!
Absolutely EPIC! And SO good to see you back at the sharp end of pushing the limits on the bike!!!
💪🏼👍🏼👌🏼😁
This should be shown in movie theaters!
If this mountain is untamable, then so is Gee.
Absolutely chuffing brilliant!!!!
Fa salire l'adrenalina solo a guardare.
Panorami spettacolari
Glad to see Gee back at it!
Whoaaaa! It gave me sweaty palms just watching this! Gee, you're the man!
The rider (Holy Gee) and the terrain and the music and the emotion and the speed - it all fucked with my head man. It moved me. I haven't seen a video like this in a long long time.
