    Tom, whereas there are a lot of people watching what you do with the dogs, I'm watching how you interact with the owners to better learn how to communicate with dog owners that I work with. I love all dogs but some are true stand out gems and I hope this training helps them realize they genuinely hit the lottery. A naturally sweet temperament with that much motivation makes for the greatest companion imaginable. He's not trying to challenge anyone. There's no intentional disrespect or ill intent. He just desperately wants to please and didn't know how. That's a once in a lifetime, if your lucky, sort of dog.

I don't use a prong collar as I already trained my dog loose leash walking using a front clip harness, treats and walking the other way when he pulls. In regards to the prong collar, my dog, who is pretty well trained always had trouble with pulling on the leash, we tried all the gadgets and tools, extra training with them and just couldn’t consolidate the walking on the leash. It wasn’t until I walked someone’s else dog with a slip, who was so responsive and easy that I realised how different my pooch was. Totally disengaged with me on the leash. Bought the prong, and wow, the progress we have made is amazing and I hardly have to correct him. Engages and settles the brain, like in this video, it is amazing. Thank you for explaining the prong collar so thouroughly. I have a Bully who was extremely excited when we rescued her. I used the prong collar for a few weeks just to get her to understand the behavior that I wanted her to have while on a walk and now most of the time I don't even walk her with a leash because she understands exactly what I want from her. Prong collars are great if you use them properly and as a productive tool and not as a last resort.

    I have a one year old that is just like the dog in this video, lol a little more spunky. If I can't get her to chill my wife won't be happy. You sold me on the prong collar. I've tried other ones with little help. Once it's off my dog is right back to the same stuff. And you do it so chill and relaxed. 🙏 Love the videos. I've watched many.

    I love this video, it is on point, shows and explains what the prong-collar actually is and does. In the country I live in the prong-collar is called a “choking-collar”. I hate that word, it reenforces the idea that the collar is hurtfull to the dog and is part reason why absolutely nobody uses it here. I try to tell people sometimes but as soon as they hear “choking-collar” they just shut down and wont listen. It is so sad. People should really educate themselves a little bit before getting a dog. Anyway I love You guys, the amount of dogs You helped, not just saving their lives but saving them from a life in stress and missery, it is really something.

    Just watching the owners as well, their praising undesirable behavior is something I see alot of people doing not realizing how much trouble it causes. Its counter productive and I hope it was pointed out to them. Good work and an important video. More people need to know about how prong collars work and their benefits.

    I understand the benefit of training with a prong collar. But I see so many dogs wearing them all the time not just while being trained. Maybe in the future, do a video on how the prong is a training tool not a crutch.

    • @kairu_aname
      @kairu_aname 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Teach them. Ask them to train with you, and then take the collar off.
      If the dog is collar aware, then have them wear a regular collar with it. And a long leash
      Maybe they don't have another collar, you left out so much information.

      If you've never heard of prong collars before I highly doubt you know what you're doing with one. You don't mess around with prong collars or use them without any knowledge. They provide pain as punishment, that is not something to take lightly. Please just go see a professional trainer.

      Try an e collar stim first and teach the dog to walk by you with luring first. While prongs aren’t bad at all, on younger puppies who are very flexible all you really need is a lure, treats and if necisary an e collar to help them focus on you when they get distracted, then if that doesn’t work consult a trainer about what type of prong would work best and how you’d use it on a puppy because of how sensitive they are

    I have a crazy 2 year old cocker just like this one, I’ve been binge watching your videos this week and the change in my dogs behaviour when we are out on a walk is insane!! And it’s only been 1 week!:) I am excited to learn more, and maybe invest in this collar

    • @kairu_aname
      @kairu_aname 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have a slip collar and the dog doesn't pull with it on and choke themselves out, then you probably don't need to, but it is the most effective tool at teaching correction.
      If it is as bad as the video, invest in one to teach correction and you likely won't have to use it a second time

    I put the Herm Springer prong collar on myself to see how it felt. I think everyone should do it. It just makes me think of a Mama dog grabbing her pup. My dog had become quite leash reactive after getting attacked and now with the prong collar she is much less reactive.

    I live in southeast Texas and I would LOOOOOVE to come visit you and learn more about how I, as a trainer, can better hone my skills with teaching owners about their dogs. I always tend to either sound like a vacuum salesman (overly excited and overly explaining without them actually understanding what I'm saying) or I simply don't communicate enough. I've been filming myself and getting better, but I would love to have the confidence you have. I definitely need more experience, so it's always refreshing seeing your videos (they almost always coincide with what I'm doing at the moment lol). Keep up the good work!!

    Omg, that black dog looks just like ours and with the white on the chest :) and behaves just like that! He's from a shelter and we have had him for only 3weeks. He's doing so much better already, but he's pulling the leash a lot! And he goes crazy when he sees a cat! Have tried Easy Walker, but now he's sore under in his armpits! We just bought a Julius K9, and I hope he will get better soon! So sad that you have sold out the safety clip and the prong collar in your webshop! Keep upp the great work Tom, I love your videos and I have learned so much from you :) Thank you!

    I’m a big fan of prong collars. I’m using one on a little 15 pound Chihuahua mix, because if I don’t there is absolutely zero correction. Soon as he has his “school clothes“ on. he’s quite awesome and very few corrections are needed. However, he doesn’t watch me very well. So I have resorted to using a little food to get his attention to look up at me. Also working very well.

      Practice! Spend an hour just sitting in one spot outside until it gets boring for the dog. Go to a place with minimal distractions at first of your dog is easily stimulated, like a big parking lot without much traffic (maybe an office park that's closed or a church on an off day). Reward your dog for self settling. As they get better you can go to other places like busier parks, sit outside grocery stores, etc. It does take time I've noticed with German Shepherds and other "intelligent" breeds, they learn REALLY fast but they don't generalize well. This is useful in some circumstances but it can be a challenge with socialization. You have to train for every conceivable situation and in every environment.
      Whenever I take my dogs new places I do a little training drill with them to set the tone, it helps a lot to settle them down and remember to pay attention to me.
