The fact that they still made a Home Alone 5 even after how horrible the fourth movie. And for The Critic to predict Home Alone 5 would be awful, that cartoon was ahead of its time!

I'm still wondering why almost every single Home Alone movie takes place at Christmastime. It's a tired setting. Wouldn't it be a bit refreshing if one of those machine-churned sequels was Halloween-themed? Come on, pranks, tricks, scary decorations, it's undiscovered gold.
Thats awesome. Or maybe 4th of July. Think of this scenario. A rope gets lit - one( or both) follow it to see where it leads because they're stupid- Opens a door where the rope goes under to find a Load of rockets pointing at them.
That's an interesting thought.. I think since the first movie made it Christmas theme to milk sympathy for the kid and family (because being alone on Christmas is pretty heartbreaking) the rest of the film's just tried to follow it's lead.. being alone on any other holiday is just not as sad/scary.
Actually this one could work perfect as a Halloween movie. Change a little the story to this kid being punished to not going to trick or treat, the parents go to a Halloween party... The whole Ghost thing is even better in that case
A few things I like about this movie: - I like the trap setup scene. The soundtrack is great, and that split-screen time-lapse shot is an interesting idea that wasn't done in the previous movies. - Another cool idea is that Finn is a gamer, so it makes sense that he would be creative enough to make all those traps. He'd probably be good at redstone in Minecraft. - The actors are pretty good. Obviously Malcolm McDowell is there, but I also think the angsty teen sister is kinda funny, and the mother is entertaining whenever she gets mad.
If only the people making the movie had any idea what to do with ideas. Except I disagree with the middle one. Home Alone is stupid. The entire setup is stupid. Trying to explain it just draws attention to it. People are accepting these people are stupid when they decide to watch it after reading the title. Everyone in the movie needs to be stupid in some way for any of the Home Alone movies to work.

He tried to review the movie follow that bird but in the middle of it he broke down crying about how he couldn’t rip on such a thing as Sesame Street but years later as of last year he had no problem ripping on Elmo’s adventures in Grouchland.
I absolutely HATE techno shaming in movies. Do people realize there's another person at the other end of the screen looking for connection? "The Mitchells vs. the Machines" got that right.
You have to admire Doug’s dedication to put up a Disneycember review every day throughout December as well as a new Nostalgia Critic every week and even finding the time and energy to do crossovers like with the Black Christmas review he did with Brad.

I would love to have a new Home Alone sequel if they cast Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister. And either he's home alone due to depression or he's the burgler breaking into his childhood home.
I felt that moment with the cats and the wrapping paper. After several years of living with either no cats or older cats, I am spending my first Christmas with a 1.5 year old cat with an insane amount of energy. I have been playing with him with crumpled wrapping paper balls.
Parent: "You spend too much time in video games, go enjoy real life." Kid: (goes into real life) Parent: "How was it?" Kid: "that was the most unrealistic thing I've ever experienced. Aliens in Halo are more human than the neighbor."
Man you know what might have made this movie better, cut the young boy sibling off completely and have the big sister be the one Home Alone! Having an teen female as the protagonist would at least feel different, than just another annoying boy, which btw have been getting more and more annoying with every movie. Kevin was great because he was an outcast in his own giant family and was constantly bullied and made fun off, and that was relatable, outside of Alex in the third one, the rest are just entitled assholes!
honestly, I've been wanting for a home alone movie where the gimmick is the entire family make the traps together. I know that 4 KINDA ended with the siblings helping with one pratfall, but imagine if the entire third act had the family getting together to do it.
Home Alone 2 would have been better of they acknowledged the first movie not in the way they copied the first, but actually have the family discover what Kevin really did, and they could have had an awesome moment of Kevin being Home Alone only for Buzz to show up near the end and help with a trap. I think it could have been a powerful moment if it was only Buzz & Kevin it wouldn't have worked if it was the whole family it would have made the scene far to hammy. True Brothers can be like that they may even bully the younger siblings but if someone was threatening the younger kids even the bully Brothers would make a stand against the threat.
I feel like a proper and final Home Alone movie would’ve been back in the 90s when John Hughes was still alive. The set up would be Kevin finally goes to Paris with his whole family. There he meets the French equivalents of Marv and Harry.

The Critic predicted this. It wasn’t a Matt Groening show, but it was created by Simpsons producers and had some of the same staff. Matt Groening is not alone in predicting the future.
I was hoping that the sister, Alexis would help Finn with the traps, but it was still up to Finn in the end with some added help from the kid next door. But Alexis was the one to confront two of the crooks and trap them in the safe room. The goal for Finn was not missing his family but getting over his fears and learning to expand his interests beyond video games. At the end it shows him beginning to do that. 5 is a smaller Home Alone and definitely not as classic, but I personally still find it entertaining. I will watch 1, 2, 3, and 5. 4 and 6 are the worse.
I kinda love how they bought the guy the plane ticket like saying" hey we are sorry that we called the cops on you, causing damage to your appointment and mental stress done so here's a cheap plane ticket to your parents who we never asked if you like".
There is one good thing about all these Home Alone sequels being pumped out. They all make Home Alone 2 look much better as time goes by. Sure, 2 copied a lot of stuff the original did, but at least it's trying to do something ambitious by being bigger in scale.

Honestly, might be a hot take but I don’t think this movie is bottom of barrel bad. Plots meh but I laugh a good amount of times throughout the film. Especially the burglars, those three are acting legitimately well and have good chemistry
Here are my responses to the 5 Home Alone movies: Home Alone: Timeless classic! Home Alone 2: Pretty Good. Home Alone 3: Okay. Home Alone 4: God awful! Home Alone 5: Dull and uninterested. Home Alone 5 makes Home Sweet Home Alone look decent in concept. Even though I don't like that movie but it is closer than this one.
So the Home Alone movies so far: 1 - Fairly good comedy movie. 2 - A bit of an aimless mess with some occasional well made moments. 3 - Bad. 4 - Not just bad but also boring. 5 - What the actual hell happened in here?
Here is my ranking of the 6 Home Alone Movies: 1.Home Alone-Christmas Holiday Classic! Best Christmas movie in my opinion! (No need to explain, you know it’s great and the best one!) 2.Home Alone 2:Lost in New York-Almost just as good as the first Home Alone, I consider it a classic as well! (Also no need to explain, it’s great in my opinion!) 3.Home Alone 3-Highly underrated movie! Not as good as “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2:Lost in New York” AT ALL, however it is SOMEWHAT fun to watch. In my opinion the traps are decent and this new kid character is actually okay! I also kinda like the whole dangerous evil spies trying to break in to find nuke chip plot! (At least they actually deserve it) In my opinion, this is a good/fine movie to watch once every year! 4.Home Alone 5:The Holiday Heist-I actually like this one a little bit more than “Home Sweet Home Alone”, however that doesn’t make it good. It’s overall just a big “MEH” movie in my opinion. Some traps are good, some are okay, some are..stupid. Just like Doug, I got a few laughs and a little enjoyment, but nothing more major than that. It’s a movie you watch once and forget about like 10 minutes after watching it. Then every year you just remind yourself “Oh yeah! That was a thing!” 5.Home Sweet Home Alone-This movie definitely could’ve been better, however what we got was not so great. The kid who is Home Alone is not likeable (the character in the movie), it focuses more on the “bad guys”, and the only reason the bad guys are even “breaking into” the kid’s house is because they thought he stole the doll that they could sell to keep their house, so when they go through the traps, you feel bad for them and so it’s just not fun or funny anymore. Although they did get the original actor of Buzz back for a small role, it is just not enough to save this movie. 6.Home Alone 4:Taking Back the House-MAN do I hate this movie. They actually had the audacity to bring back “Kevin” and “Marv” and the rest of the “family” to be played by different actors who don’t even look like them. Why didn’t they just have new characters!?? I also hate this new problem/plot where the dad is divorced from the mom, which is an unnecessary plot for a HOME ALONE movie!!

The kids face on the Boxcover looks like he saw Nicholas Cage's Insane Crazy Sprit and thought you know what i'm ready for the horrors of life but first i got to do a Home Alone Film!
I dunno I feel like Home Alone can work as long as the house is interesting and has good trap potential. The reason 2 has the best traps is because it had a great idea of a house midway through renovation and ran with it. You had holes in the floor for Harry & Marv to fall through, construction equipment being used as traps and the always classic brick scene. If a new Home Alone movie used a house with something interesting about it like that I feel like it could be a great instalment in the series

Back when you did the review for Home Alone this year, I honestly thought THAT! was the 5th film. Color me shocked and scared when I found out that it was not only the 6th film, but to realize there was a 5th damn film. I’m terrified to know what happens (but it couldn’t as dreadful as a nice couple trying to save their house, right)? *hits play*
I’m so sad my favorite joke wasn’t in this review. After the swats knock out Simon, a later scene shows that he’s able to see Finn’s house on his TV to prove its not him, it’s the burglars. Then when the burglars are locked in the vault, it shows him and the swats celebrating after watching it. With CHINESE TAKEOUT! I love the visual of the swat team just sitting down and watching everything go down while eating food with some random guy they accused of kidnapping.
I've been waiting for this one for years! And yet when you finally do the review, a new one comes out that's even worse than this one! Also, a side point, I really like the Christmas stock music you use this time of year. Despite being stock, the music you use makes me happy. It fits you and the show well!
I will say Malcolm McDowell is really good in the Mentalist tv series as the “definitely not a cult” cult leader Brett Stiles. Not defending his performance here, but saying that he has done better.
I've seen him in Clockwork Orange (my favorite film of all time and is directed by Stanley Kubrick) , If...., Caligula (which was crap so I suggest that you don't watch it) and The Artist (a Best Picture winner from 2011 that's a silent film).
Let me be honest here, the only actor I liked in this film is Malcolm McDowell. Another thing that I want to state is that this movie makes Home Sweet Home Alone look like a literal masterpiece. As a matter of fact, with these two movies existing it actually feels like these are the 2 kinds of movies that compliment each other by saying one is better than the other when both are considerably bad.

Maybe the mug shot scene at the end is calling back to the end of Home Alone 3 that ended the same way.
But at least in 3 there was sort of a joke thrown in where it's revealed the criminals all got chicken pox.

We have "Alone in the woods" set in Thanksgiving. Too bad both Critic and Snob almost stop doing reviews of truly obscure nostalgic movies.

Having an teen female as the protagonist would at least feel different, than just another annoying boy, which btw have been getting more and more annoying with every movie.
Kevin was great because he was an outcast in his own giant family and was constantly bullied and made fun off, and that was relatable, outside of Alex in the third one, the rest are just entitled assholes!
honestly, I've been wanting for a home alone movie where the gimmick is the entire family make the traps together. I know that 4 KINDA ended with the siblings helping with one pratfall, but imagine if the entire third act had the family getting together to do it.

Home Alone 2 would have been better of they acknowledged the first movie not in the way they copied the first, but actually have the family discover what Kevin really did, and they could have had an awesome moment of Kevin being Home Alone only for Buzz to show up near the end and help with a trap.
I think it could have been a powerful moment if it was only Buzz & Kevin it wouldn't have worked if it was the whole family it would have made the scene far to hammy. True Brothers can be like that they may even bully the younger siblings but if someone was threatening the younger kids even the bully Brothers would make a stand against the threat.
I personally liked this film. The kid was likable and it wasn’t a cheap retread of the original like 4 and 6.

I was hoping that the sister, Alexis would help Finn with the traps, but it was still up to Finn in the end with some added help from the kid next door. But Alexis was the one to confront two of the crooks and trap them in the safe room. The goal for Finn was not missing his family but getting over his fears and learning to expand his interests beyond video games. At the end it shows him beginning to do that. 5 is a smaller Home Alone and definitely not as classic, but I personally still find it entertaining. I will watch 1, 2, 3, and 5. 4 and 6 are the worse.
I did actually find this one to be a decent family movie that simply had the Home Alone mark slapped onto it.
You’re right NC, these movies make you appreciate Home Alone 2 so much more.
I think by now its officially seen as a Christmas classic right next to the first one.

There is one good thing about all these Home Alone sequels being pumped out. They all make Home Alone 2 look much better as time goes by. Sure, 2 copied a lot of stuff the original did, but at least it's trying to do something ambitious by being bigger in scale.

Just rewatched all of his home alone reviews and was hoping that he would do one on the holiday heist. It’s truly a Christmas miracle.

Honestly, might be a hot take but I don’t think this movie is bottom of barrel bad. Plots meh but I laugh a good amount of times throughout the film. Especially the burglars, those three are acting legitimately well and have good chemistry

Home Alone 2: Pretty Good.

Here is my ranking of the 6 Home Alone Movies:
1.Home Alone-Christmas Holiday Classic! Best Christmas movie in my opinion! (No need to explain, you know it’s great and the best one!)
2.Home Alone 2:Lost in New York-Almost just as good as the first Home Alone, I consider it a classic as well! (Also no need to explain, it’s great in my opinion!)
3.Home Alone 3-Highly underrated movie! Not as good as “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2:Lost in New York” AT ALL, however it is SOMEWHAT fun to watch. In my opinion the traps are decent and this new kid character is actually okay! I also kinda like the whole dangerous evil spies trying to break in to find nuke chip plot! (At least they actually deserve it) In my opinion, this is a good/fine movie to watch once every year!
4.Home Alone 5:The Holiday Heist-I actually like this one a little bit more than “Home Sweet Home Alone”, however that doesn’t make it good. It’s overall just a big “MEH” movie in my opinion. Some traps are good, some are okay, some are..stupid. Just like Doug, I got a few laughs and a little enjoyment, but nothing more major than that. It’s a movie you watch once and forget about like 10 minutes after watching it. Then every year you just remind yourself “Oh yeah! That was a thing!”
5.Home Sweet Home Alone-This movie definitely could’ve been better, however what we got was not so great. The kid who is Home Alone is not likeable (the character in the movie), it focuses more on the “bad guys”, and the only reason the bad guys are even “breaking into” the kid’s house is because they thought he stole the doll that they could sell to keep their house, so when they go through the traps, you feel bad for them and so it’s just not fun or funny anymore. Although they did get the original actor of Buzz back for a small role, it is just not enough to save this movie.
6.Home Alone 4:Taking Back the House-MAN do I hate this movie. They actually had the audacity to bring back “Kevin” and “Marv” and the rest of the “family” to be played by different actors who don’t even look like them. Why didn’t they just have new characters!?? I also hate this new problem/plot where the dad is divorced from the mom, which is an unnecessary plot for a HOME ALONE movie!!

I dunno I feel like Home Alone can work as long as the house is interesting and has good trap potential. The reason 2 has the best traps is because it had a great idea of a house midway through renovation and ran with it. You had holes in the floor for Harry & Marv to fall through, construction equipment being used as traps and the always classic brick scene. If a new Home Alone movie used a house with something interesting about it like that I feel like it could be a great instalment in the series
The biggest laughs I got out of this review is Buster being adorable.

Back when you did the review for Home Alone this year, I honestly thought THAT! was the 5th film. Color me shocked and scared when I found out that it was not only the 6th film, but to realize there was a 5th damn film.

I’m so sad my favorite joke wasn’t in this review. After the swats knock out Simon, a later scene shows that he’s able to see Finn’s house on his TV to prove its not him, it’s the burglars. Then when the burglars are locked in the vault, it shows him and the swats celebrating after watching it. With CHINESE TAKEOUT! I love the visual of the swat team just sitting down and watching everything go down while eating food with some random guy they accused of kidnapping.
“The Critic” is a fantastic show that I would love to see revived, provided Jon Lovitz returns to voice Jay Sherman.
I only caught glimpses of this movie on TV and immediately said "They made a fifth one?!"
I've been waiting for this one for years! And yet when you finally do the review, a new one comes out that's even worse than this one!
Also, a side point, I really like the Christmas stock music you use this time of year. Despite being stock, the music you use makes me happy. It fits you and the show well!
I will say Malcolm McDowell is really good in the Mentalist tv series as the “definitely not a cult” cult leader Brett Stiles. Not defending his performance here, but saying that he has done better.

I've seen him in Clockwork Orange (my favorite film of all time and is directed by Stanley Kubrick) , If...., Caligula (which was crap so I suggest that you don't watch it) and The Artist (a Best Picture winner from 2011 that's a silent film).
Let me be honest here, the only actor I liked in this film is Malcolm McDowell. Another thing that I want to state is that this movie makes Home Sweet Home Alone look like a literal masterpiece. As a matter of fact, with these two movies existing it actually feels like these are the 2 kinds of movies that compliment each other by saying one is better than the other when both are considerably bad.
