      I'm 78 and watched this when I was about five. Fell in love with the pipes and so at 15 (underage) I joined the Toronto Scottish Regiment. After three years with the Tor Scots I joined the regular army for a 31 year career. I think this movie was the pivotal moment that set my future in place. To this day I still enjoy the pipes & drums.

    This is my first time watching this film. It's truly a classic in my opinion. One of the most heartbreaking scenes though is when the dog is trying to lead Chris to his lost family. That's honestly heartbreaking. But the way Chris deals with the issue compared to Abby. Is masterful the way he tries to tell her don't look and tells her to go back. As he's digging the grave. Is just what a true man to do. We don't see stuff like that anymore in movies. My favorite part though is when she's crying after seeing the bodies and holding the dog. She basically says that it's hopeless. But Chris like a true man comes back with basically that it's not hopeless. The storytelling the characters all of this is something that Hollywood today can't possibly do. At least this is all my opinion. This is now up there in my top five favorite movies. Thank you for uploading this God bless you all.

      Yup… hard to find true men today… a consequence of this feminist crap… men need good models and do men things again and women should just back off and do women things.
      Oh and I know that that is a sin to say that today!

    My Mother says..."I have watched this movie I don't know how many times & it touches me every single time I watch it. They do not have the love for this country as they did back then. This is what I miss most about todays times". I agree with Her & w/many posts of the quality & integrity of the writers & the performers. I've seen this several times...loved it every time too. The writers of today cannot ever create a movie of this maturity & quality. I love the way Men & Women used to interact & treat each other in the true golden years of Hollywood. IMHO. It's been a long time ago, but hope your sister got better. Some children are affected by what they watch. I can't watch horror movies, hate them to this day, 69yrs. Later. They cause me to have nightmares.Refuse to watch horror. As for sad heartbreaking movies I can cry all through them. But, find it hard to cry about worries in real life. Guess that's my release. Probably because as a child it was, What you crying about, I'll give you something to cry about. My sister had the same problem. Who in their right mind smacks/ whips a hurt child to make them stop crying? ... This is a great movie. Shows strength, compassion for others, people knew if you lived you'd die as sure as you are born. Didn't have time to waste. We still have corruption in power these Days.

    One of the really *True Classics....!!!* Such a well scripted, complex interpersonal drama laced through the equally "notorious" setting of our pre-American Revolution history. The Iroquois Nation was equally well represented, and where the entire costuming throughout the film was perhaps only outdone by this endlessly Sterling Cast. To this day, the scene of Boris Karloff being 'tricked' by the magnetic compass is still one of my favorite movie scenes Of All Time!!!

    • @elmagodelmaryahoo
      @elmagodelmaryahoo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      PS: And the filming locations throughout the movie are "delicious" TOO!!!
      Apparently, most of film was shot in the forests of Pennsylvania and Idaho's rugged Snake River, where even this film print copy of only 480p is still rather "crisp".... and where the _'saturated'_ though 'tangibly realistic' Beautiful *Technicolor* takes this aged film to a wonderful level of "believability". I seen this movie 7 times in the movie theaters, when I was 7 years old. When they cut the movie they cut out the most important part,of it. It was the green dress. It showed Paulette Goddard when she was dirty, and than showed her cleaned up and beautiful in that gorgeous dress. It really was a very significant part of the movie. So sorry they cut it out!

The scene with Seneca Chief Guyasuta (Boris Karloff) with The Compass and the fired-off gunpowder is A Slice of Hollywood History!!! Above-n-beyond the intended Purely (box office) Dramatic Elements of the film, then the larger sequential aspects of "The French and Indian War" are fairly consistent with documented American history pre-independence..... in what was then the Wild Wild West (of the Alleghanies / Appalachians)!! I love Gary Cooper during a particular time of his career. Back in the ‘30s when he first started making movies, most of his roles were on the ‘goofy’ side. But as he became seasoned, his looks were more endearing & his acting matured. He still held a hidden talent for humor but it became a controlled trait he used to his benefit. I found him increasingly handsome ~ my attraction for his acting ‘grew on me’ ~ he no longer acted in parts that portrayed him as a weakling or a big tall dummy. It’s no wonder Gary Cooper became one of the best actors of his time & was soo widely sought after during the ‘40s when the motion picture industry made the best films/movies ever! (~ in my opinion). He eventually lost his sensuous attractiveness, but he never lost his integrity for acting with distinction & talent, and oftentimes a touch of humor!

      Actually, Cooper started acting in the 1920s. He had a small, showy part in the very first winner of the Academy Awards for Best Picture, "Wings" in 1927. He was the flyer who offered Richard Arlen and Buddy Rogers some chocolate before going on a flying mission.

How I love that kind of talk; simply to the point, not said with profanity and stated in a normal tone of voice - the effect is quite menacing, but it is not the kind of dialog that comes out of Hollywood anymore and probably never will again.
