Disgusting mate. We all know what went on here. There needs to be a thorough criminal investigation but I won't hold my breath. The whole thing sickens me to the stomach. Really touching video and a nice tribute to the famous old pub 😪
Am I really the only one tonight who’s sat and cried over the news of its demolition tonight, it’s heartbreaking, it’s a huge part of us gone, am absolutely fuming yet sad to see this happen to our heritage xxxxx
watching this after just finding out it's been knocked down. Literally crying, lived and worked there for 4 years, met my wife, there, proposed to her there and had my son there!!! Absolutley gutted!!!!
Imagine this building has stood the test of time standing for 259 years but couldn't survive the absolute scum that blight our lives in these unfortunate times we are living in today
Very sad to see this iconic building gutted. I hope that whoever is responsible for this building catching fire and burning to the ground is taken to task for destroying such an important Black Country heritage asset.
A rare gem, one of its kind in this country lost and we all know why it happened, this broke me seeing these treasures have no protection and it being grade II listed aswell, I agree they need some kind of protection so this stuff don’t happen, it’s obviously was burnt down so it could get rid of but this beautiful building is a rare treasure and it should of stayed. I had the privilege to go here on a few occasions and one was paranormal investigation, the spirits there will be at a loss, believe it or not they exist there and will haunt whatever will be build there, karma! Thank you for posting this beautiful yet emotional video, the crooked house will always be alive there with all the memories we all have of it and whatever will be built there hope the council declines all future planning permissions that go ahead for this location and karma will come back 10 fold! Love this location, will always carry it with me
Don't think they will be protected the government doesn't care for our past, I read an article saying that the tax payer is funding millions of pounds for the protection of mosques yet churches in the countryside are having the lead stripped from the roofs during the night.
Even if it had been left and housing built around it, that would have been a fantastic development with a wonderful local pub, I would be proud to have that close to me.
The Crooked house is one of the black countries landmarks like dudley castle, himley hall, red house glass cone, mushroom green chain shop and the bonded warehouse and i think it should be saved for future generations to come if not on it's original site. it should be moved nearby and rebuilt. there must be someone out there with the money to save it.
Absolutely devastated about this. They've actually demolished it now. No one's coming forward to claim who went in and tore it down. I hope someone suffers for it!
totally agree but the council and the politicians have got to act now as its gathered a lot of attention, love how they turn up when the cameras start rolling!!
Great video mate, have you heard about the antique grandfather clock that was taken out of the pub two days before it was set on fire seems to be too much of a coincidence. They take out the valuables just before it burns down how can people get away with these sort of things money talks i suppose. What a shame though i was in there not long before it closed to many places are being lost and once they are gone that's it we lose all our heritage . Thanks again jab for the video
Their needs to be law, If a listed building suddenly bursts into flame , a no build/ development order on remaining site for 25 years. Take the incentive to torch it away. I know a few pubs that have self combustion, all listed...
That would be a start, but this one wasn't listed though. Even then, 25 years is nothing to a large company sitting on a vast land bank. I have underpants that were bought 25 years ago!
As a Gornal bloke born and bread it’s very upsetting for me to see this. The history of this place encompasses what the Black Country was and is, for it to be burnt out then demolished is just wrong. Let’s hope the individuals who caused this meet a similar fate.
Sad to see, I remember it well. I agree with you entirely, it's obviously well dodgy. won't hold my breath that the truth comes out or anything gets done.
Its been shown on BBC Midlands news just that the road to the pub was deliberatelky blocked by tipper lorry loads of soil being dumped across it to prevent the fire engines reaching it. That does not 'just happen' - it was very clearly premeditated and would require a fair degree of organisation. So who is most likely to benefit from such activity, leading to the destruction of a Grade 11 listed building which has just changed hands? Think about it.......
Thank you for this video. It was a crime. The new owners had already had the building stripped bare of lead, copper and anything of value. And then just took the p*ss. It wouldn't surprise me if any new build they tried to put up on this land suffered the same fate going by us locals feelings. Really angry and even if the law won't do anything about it the people should.
I really hope the locals have such strong feelings, and whatever replaces the pub has a similarly unfortunate conflagration. Sadly, I know it won't, this incident will be forgotten tomorrow, maybe this afternoon, and the focus will shift to some other quirky landmark with an unsure future (with a certain arson attack in the near future). I wish this pub would be the catalyst to real action on this type of thing, which is quietly encouraged by developers, but I doubt it...
it is snowballing now the cameras then the politicians maybe for the wrong reasons but action is action and all publicity is good publicity in these matters
As said, the risk is that the anger abates and the news cycle moves on. Write to your MP and keep momentum - It has worked before (Carlton Tavern) but I agree the chances are slim.
There is a Victorian villa on Marton Road on the outskirts of Middlesbrough it was where E W Hornung was brought up he was the author of the Raffles novels, it became the head office of an engineering company in the 1980s and now it stands empty I'm just waiting for it to mysterious burn down overnight like so many other on that road only to be replaced by flats and care homes.
This is likely to have been done so houses or buildings can he built in the site. Planning permission for old buildings to be demolished is usually denied. We had one 200 Yr old victorian large building that building contractors wanted gone. Building was listed so not allowed to demolish it. The very next week or so it spontaneously combusted. What was left demolished 4 or 5 houses were built on the site within a year.
