Sneaked on there most days as a kid was amazing growing up on the priory eatate i lived the back of zoo as a kid magical days im 40 now dudley isn't the same
I am from Iran , I studied my degree in Birmingham 78 to 82 and though I visited a lot of places in UK my knowledge about Dudly was next to zero and missed this wonderfull musume. What a pitty. Great video.
Live in Dudley it's definitely not quite the same place it used to my nan used to take me and my friend to Dudley Zoo I'm my school holidays happy days
Full of smackhead zombies, beggars, thieves and alcoholics! 🤣 Everyone else has the good sense to stay away! I remember going there in the 80's as a kid and it was much nicer and safer but by the early 90's it had started to deteriorate
what is not mentioned is the earl of dudley's staue originally faced overlooking his lands down castle hill, but after his great debts and betrayal of the dudley people his staue was turned up towards the town with his back on his beloved black country. He left hundreds of open mine shafts which the council had to pay to have capped and a whole lot more not mapped and still today opening up like the one which did at back of my junior school in tividale and the one in centre of main rd from dudley to oldbury.
I've lived on the priory since 1972 by the sunrise takeaway, I had one last night actually 😋 great to see how dudley used to be when we had good old British values 👍🏻
i remember goin to the zoo around 10 yrs ago....there was barely any animals in it ha...wasnt the same as when i went when i was a kid prob around same yr as this video...
That is rather the point? The zoo now is dedicated to helping endangered species, not collecting them like pokemon cards and shoving them into totally unsuitable enclosures. Most of us prefer it that way. You come across like a bit of a museum exhibit yourself, to be honest.
its 800 too 900 ft up how would they have got plenty of water up there to tackle the fire in them days regardless of suspected gun powder storage any thoughts
A crime what the planners have did to that town. The Zoo, however, I took my daughter there when she was about 9'years old and have never visited another, & neither has she, or her, now grown up, children. It was awful, like Victorian visitors to an insane asylum to look at depresives.
I’m glad that remaining zoos (which should be banned - much better to have safari parks especially for large mammals) are larger than they used to be with more to occupy these poor animals who, on this clip, look thoroughly bored and under fed.
@@karpetcabin well when Mr Grace left it was sold to Scotia Investments an entertainment company.A load of wide boys. I was 14 when this was filmed, how sad the decline of Dudley over the years...
I was 6, left for uni in 1997 and very rarely go back
Just wonderful. Just how I remember it as a kid! The bustling marketplace compared to now, has made me feel quite sad.
I cry when I see dudley and other towns have become
Yes i grew up i lived behind Dudley zoo, the town is terrible now i dont even go there to visit its a shame whats happened to the place

My first trip to Dudley Castle was in 1987. Great memories ❤
I remember it like this as a kid. Great memories ❤
This was so nostalgic to watch.
An unbelievable watch, the year I was born. Thank you posting this
I worked on the zoo when it was a part of the zoo federation and Mr Grace was the Director
It went down after he left
When did the elephants disappear?

We went to Dudley a few weeks ago it looks like a different country now
That’s what happens when you let the government destroy your cultures and traditions and invites the whole world to live with n your tiny island.

Really enjoyed this video.I was a guide at the Black Country museum now living in Cumbria. Brought back many memories
This is awesome, being from Dudley originally
I visited the Museum in the 90's with my very young children and it was like being in my old Street of Oldbury.
Blimey, I rember seing the polar bears when I was a teenager so must have been mid 70's at a guess
I remember when this Day Out series was presented by David St John Howell who was a dear friend and boozing pal of mine.

Though they used to turn him round every new years eve
40 years ago, unbelievable!
My home town but thankfully now live in Yorkshire. Dudley has gone seriously downhill in the last decade
Third world rubbish tip by now
The whole country is going the same way unfortunately 😒 no british values these days
Where's all the doctors and engineers? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

@@hogwashmcturnip8930 Spot on, I 'm glad this is the way forward.
It's actually improved no end and gone through a revival.
Rip the Hippodrome
Yes we miss that land mark, I went passed and saw they were knocking it down I cried, dudley in the 70s and 80s was the best of times, so sad now
Nice to see a lot of white faces around Dudley market back then.
We are the minority now 😏

Nice!!!
Theres nothing like that now Dudley is dead almost 😮

Poor animals.
Now it’s the “poor” residents of Dudley; and no one is going to rehouse them.
Dudley council ruined the zoo Councils ruin everything
How did they ruin it?

@The Richest Man In Babylon The staff who worked truly loved the animals and devoted their lives to them
Governments are to blame, labour will make it a lot worse now
Still mostly looks the same...just less people shopping...a LOT less...
Ts ...
still looks the same
