Benchmade always. Ranger Green Bugout slimmer, better steel and IMHO Axis is best lock out not saying the strongest that'd be TriAd but the all around best

I own a standard G10 Para3 and the blue Bugout. I like both, they're very useful (for different purposes). Spyderco and Benchmade are my favorite brands. Though, I always find the Benchmade harder to sharpen because they seem to be incapable of shipping a symmetrical edge.

Excellent video. I chose them both. One advantage that the Spyderco Para 3 has is that if you really like the knife you can have it with upgraded steel. Both knives have many different options in handle materials. You can really make the knives your own.

One of my favorite knives is the GRIPTILIAN with the THUMB hole. However, since Benchmade can not use the thumbhole I always go with Spyderco. However, the MANIX 2 lightweight in S110V or Maxamet beats them all - after my pick of the Para 3 which got preempted... Thanks for a GREAT no time wasted review...

I went with the 555 mini griptilian with the hole, one of my favorite blades. Ive been on a BM bender this past year & I just received my first Spyderco, a smallfly 2. Now I'm looking into a Spyderco for my brother. I wanted to get him a BM taggedout for when he goes hunting but something about their blade holes I just love! Ahh so many knives so little money 😆

  • @frogturtle
    @frogturtle ปีที่แล้ว +3

had a PM2 and didn’t like how food stuck to the blade since it’s so tall. never had that issue with the bugout, such a great slicer. also the bugout has worse ergos in specific grips, but I find the generic shape preferable for switching between grips and manipulating the knife in general. I also worry about chipping the tip on PM-style spydercos. and the bugout rides in the pocket like no other knife can.
I do prefer the thumb hole over thumb stud, I’ll give that one to spyderco.
I will say it’s probably worth upgrading to the M390 bugout. superior materials and the handle is redesigned with better ergos. also it looks awesome. I’ll prob pick up a para 3 LW too at some point because I do still love spyderco and my PM2 is just a bit too big for edc.

Just take the para 3 s110v Not heavyweight and very solid, with steel that keeps his edge for a long period of time. The bugout seems like a toy compared to the para 3. But it’s not. It’s also a great choice for edc.

  • @scotteger6271

They’re both great knives from great companies. I have a lot of Benchmade knives but for me the Para 3 LW is a huge win over the bugout…probably compares better to the mini bugout, now that it exists. The steel on the bugout is a little better than the Para 3 LW, but they have other steel options for the Para 3 LW which don’t change the price all that much. I have the Spy 27 steel and it holds an edge just as well as any of my S30v knives. The wire pocket clip on the Para 3 LW is excellent and I personally like it much better than the short deep carry clip of the bugout. Some people complain about the shape of the Spyderco leaf blades, but the part that sticks up is in the crease of my pocket away from my hand so I don’t really see how it’s an issue.

I now have a para 3 light weight blacked out from blade to bolt. It's the best knife I've ever held it feels like I'm holding a piece of obsidian and a switchblade and a futuristic piece I shouldn't have all in one. It's flawless.

Both the Benchmade and Spyderco knives are the best quality on the market. You can’t go wrong with either. After watching this comparison, I decided to purchase the Para 3, but with S110V blade steel with G-10 scales. The blade steel availability is the difference between the two designs. Building material matters, but with a corresponding price increase for more premium blade steals and scales.

Firstly, I wish it had thumb jumping on the top end of the blade next to the handle. I also really dislike how tough/inflexible the pocket clip is. I’m looking to pull the trigger on the all-black lightweight Para 3. The all-black Para 3 model and the Bugout both fall at the £150 price point here in the UK so it will be interesting to see how they fair over time. Anyway, an interesting video so thank you!

  • @8686joedog

Great video! I like my Delica but it's shiny, hard to close one-handed, and the clip is not deep carry. This P3 Lightweight seems to check all the boxes for me as far as a Delica substitute. Seems like a worthy contender to my Bugout that has monopolizing ALL of my pocket time. I absolutely LOVE that this P3LW does not have a sharpening choil! I think the industry/manufacturers need to really take a hard look at the definition of "Deep Carry". These are "deepish" carry. IMO, the clip needs to extend past the butt of the knife (like the Kershaw Fatback) in order for it to be called Deep Carry. I have heard people rave about wire clips. Why do you think people love them over other more conventional clips?

    • @cueball981

I’ll mirror what cueball said…the wire clip just has to be experienced to understand…hard to go back once you’ve used it. Personally it’s my go to option on the Spyderco’s. I understand what you mean about “deep carry” but sometimes a knife goes too far in the pocket to make retrieval easy…I feel like the Para 3 LW is deep enough…I’ve never had anyone call me out for carrying a knife (another benefit of the wire clip…does not scream pocket knife clip immediately). I have the Spy 27 steel and love it.

The only Benchmade I own is the 940. Never really had the urge to buy another because it seems like the best choice of all their knives. I have had 5 different Spyderco knives and want several other models that are on my radar. I guess that means I prefer them or maybe they just have better options/more variations.

  • @keats27

Handle goes to Para3, Lock goes to Bugout, opener goes to Spyderco (sorry Benchmade), Clip goes to Para3, steel goes to Benchmade, Price points are now a LOT closer, I would like to know if both use washers, ball bearings, or nothing. It is a very tough call, but in the end, you cut with the blade, and the steel advantage gives it to the bugout I think. I'm a big fanboy of both companies.

I’d go Para 3 non-lightweight version vs. the bugout. Both are great knives but I’m not really a fan of Spyderco’s FRN scales.

The Bugout has great steel but in every other way is crap compared to the Para. BM's tiny encapsulated little frame makes the Big good for opening letters and eating food. Hell! The Kershaw Skyline is a better knife than the Bugout at least it has a full frame on one side, a better blade grind and 2.1 ounces! Even bigger and lighter than the Spydie Chapparal!

@@GreenJackal simple is as simple does ;) ... how about a bit of critical thinking -- these weapons would have been destroyed BY LAW regardless ... Benchmade simply helped the blue -- you support the blue don't you? ;) ...

I have absolutely no good reason, but I hate Spyderco. Benchmade is the the better knife, and only slightly more expensive.

Both knives are overpriced. Buy Cold Steel.
