- This year Spyderco has updated it's popular Para 3 knife by adding a LT or lightweight variation to the line- to the delight of Para 3 collectors probably. In this short video I examine if the Para 3 lightweight warrants an upgrade or a downgrade and compare it to other similar knives in Spyderco's and Benchmade's lineup. You'll see channel favorites like the Benchmade Bugout, the Wharncliffe Delica, the Para 3 BladeHQ sprint run- and also hear how awful my voice sounds when I'm sick. Went ahead and picked this up close to launch with some store credit I had at DLT. First Para 3 and I like it. It checks off the boxes for work carry and is still street legal where i live in RVA. So yeah, it does the job for me. I don't have any funny riffs or quips on hand today but I did google this one for you: I decided to switch to a knife to preserve my ammo.

I know you edited out the spray from your femoral artery when you dropped the knife and stabbed yourself in the leg, but you shouldn't have. Seeing arterial spray adds realism and is a common occurrence on Mondays.
If the Para 3 LW were a cereal, it would be Corn Flakes. It's ok for what it is, and will get the job done, but it's no Lucky Charms.

It was either the Para 3 LW, or a Para 3 with an upgraded clip. I opted for the $95 dollar option. The action, centering, and overall finish on my example are superb. CTS BD1N holds a 15-degree edge very well for EDC use, and it's easy to sharpen on my lansky system. I honestly fidget and flick it more than I actually cut things.

I have the Para 3 lightweight and love it but.... The blade centering is way off. I can figure out how to center it. When get close the blade feels loose with play in it. Any ideas?

Out of all the kives I own I prefer my pm3 over everything including my sebenza... Don't understand why but the pm3 lightweight feels sooo good in hand and it's easy to sharpen.

Did you notice any play in the detent? Mine didnt start until I carried/ used it for a while. Sending it back for a tuneup.
No, none on this one. However, this knife hasn’t been used a whole lot. Pretty strong detent right now.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro I havent been "hard using" it either I use that term loosely Im an electrician so my knive do get "harder" use than just opening packages but Im not spine whacking my knives or anything. I did take some fine grit to the inside edges of the FRN because it had some pretty hard edges.

There are, but none of them are going to hold up to Cold Steel's Tri-AD lock for folding knives of that size/weight class.

Haven't hear of the Anthony Griffin knife but I'll check it out and the espada xl is next on my list of ridiculous pocket swords, I was just asking because I carry cold steel xl knives for self defense in places where large belt knives are frowned upon

Those internet knife a-holes have made it impossible for me to get a cool looking para3. They snatch ‘em up fast and because of that they get more expensive. I’m poor and live vicariously through TH-cam knife videos.

I’ve handled spyderco frn lockbacks and found them fine, BUT i was not a fan of the Bugout’s handle. Without much effort i could touch the two scales together. While that might not make the knife inherently week, boy does it not inspire confidence. I would wager that cuts are less accurate as well because of that. I am leery the Para 3 lightweight now. Thanks for the heads up.

I actually prefer BD1N to S30V just because yes it has less edge retention but not by much, and is a breeze to sharpen. Much more so than S30V in my experience. Even better corrosion resistance as well. I’ll take those trade offs for having to sharpen the blade slightly more often.
In my experience with many steels in my collection, the ease of sharpening also has a lot to do with reprofiling and the angle you choose to sharpen at. I have several benchmades and spydercos in s30v and harder steels and they only take a few minutes to touch up on the sharpmaker. A lot of these EDC knives from those two manufacturers are pretty close to the standard 40 setting on the sharpmaker. So the perception a harder steel is always a pain to sharpen compared to BD-1- it’s not always the case.

Get a Para 3 LW instead of a Bugout, there's no omega springs to randomly snap on you while opening it one day 👍
The Bugout is a better knife in my opinion. If the omega spring breaks Benchmade will replace it for free.

The lock shouldn't fail at all from light office use or flicking it open every now and then at my desk. Very nearly cut my fingers when it broke, totally unacceptable in my eyes. Lockup is kinda important 😅 No more Benchmades for me.
